I guess this may have been discussed on TNT, NBATV, or somewhere else that the Jazz are the only team that their bench (when Gordon wasn't starting) could beat the 5 starters TyCo was rolling out with every night. So who do you think would win a 5 v 5 game?

Mo
Foye
Marvin
Millsap
Jefferson

vs.

Burks
Hayward
Carroll
Favors
Kanter

I think the youngins will tak an early lead in the 1st, then the vets will come back in he 2nd to make it look like a game, then come out of half time and the vets will get blown out 9 to 32 in the 3rd. then in the 4th will fight back to even digets. then in the last 3 mins of the game will losse the game as they feed mister clutch *** al jefferson. jefferson will get double then tripled then pump fake then loose the ball... youngs win!!!!

The young guns would have to much enrgy and hustle ,so even if the minute hog vets may have an early lead it would evaporate under the endless speed of the back and forth until jefferson would be unable to run down the court and look at Ty to sub him out or call an endless amount of timeouts to save his draggin azz.

Let's see:

Mo < Burks
Foye < Hayward
MaWill < Carroll
Millsap < Favors
Jefferson < Kanter

Any other questions left?

Actually being a guy all for the young guys to play this still seems incorrect to me.

I'd say
Mo = Burks. Maybe lean a little to Mo.
Foye <<<<<< Hayward. This is not even close.
Ma Will. = Carrolle. I think when they switched role that it was apparent that Marvin is not the problem per se.
Millsap < Favors. Offensively Millsap is still a bit better. But Favors is so far superior to him on defense I'd still take Favors.
Al < Kanter. I'd have never said this in the off season or even earlier this year. But the recent stretch where Kanter got big minutes it became obvious that he has surpassed Al.

I think there needs to be one sub in the mix too. lets face it fat al cant run the floor. the deserve a sub... but who?... i think the youngsters need evans.

Nope no subs, they show up at the stake center on 3500 South and 2700 West for the pick up game.

i think we could almost pick 5 random guys from this board and still beat the starters.... ok maybe not, but it would be close.

The young guys win primarily due to defense and rebounding, plus the young guards' ability to get higher-percentage shots. Favors clearly wins the match-up with Sap. Hayward clearly wins the match-up with Foye and can get a shot off anytime he wants. Jefferson is a better scorer than Kanter, but he won't stop Kanter from scoring either. Burks can rise up over Mo and get shots if he wants. Carroll and Marvin are a wash, but Carroll will make a few more hustle plays.

The Core 5 would run the Vets off the court. No way the Vets match the Core in speed, heart and hustle. The Core would out rebound the crap of the Vets as well.

if we are talking 48 minute games
the better question would be who would win
team a -
starters
Mo
Foye
Marvin
Millsap
Jefferson
bench
Burks
Hayward
Carroll
Favors
Kanter

or team B
Starters
Burks
Hayward
Carroll
Favors

Actually, I think the vets will win. Both Al and Millsap will often command the double teams, clearing out the space for the 3-point shooters and Mo/Foye are much better at hitting quick or contested 3-pointers than Hayward or Burks (and even Marvin does it better than Carrol). Plus Mo's ballhandling is better than Burks' or Hayward's: he can penetrate, collapse the defense and dish out better than them.

On the other side of the court there is no need to doubleteam Favors, and Big Al is probably the best big in the league to guard Kanter one-on-one - he taught Kanter most of his low post moves and can easily recognize which one he is going to pull on him and what Kanter's limitations are. After all, quite a bit of Kanter's success in the recent games is due to the fact that the opponents do not have enough scouting on him - unlike Jefferson. The only chance the young team has is if Foye turns stone cold (which happens rather often lately), or Mo gets stuck in the (unsuccessful) hero ball. If Foye is reasonably hot and Mo plays on his November-December level ... then the young squad does not stand a chance.

I don't think I've ever seen Millsap command a double team. Ever. And even if Al gets doubled, that probably means someone has to hit a long outside shot, which isn't exactly high percentage with most these guys.
