Is Joe Johnson off the Jazz Tradable Assets List?

Psst... to let you in on a secret here, the Jazz will likely be in the playoffs.

Yeah why are we offloading our closer who is one of the most clutch dudes in the most recent history.

Also I remember arguing with people about using our excess space last year... the space that we were under the floor to get a second round pick and an expiring guy. People scoffed and that would have just included cutting mack and paying money we'd have to anyway. Now we are totally cool trading JJ for a second... This. Is. Dumb.

Also, 3 of those guys McCaw (38), Bell (38) and Hernangomez (35) were picked with selections that were bought with cash. I'd just assume the Jazz target the playoffs, keep Joe Jesus and then buy a second round pick if there's a guy they really want.

Exactly.

JJ was the difference between winning or losing the first round series vs. the Clippers. He will probably make the difference between the Jazz making or missing the playoffs next year. I say you have to keep him. Making the playoffs for this young team is critical so we don't regress back into lottery hell and lose any momentum built from last season.

Let me clarify my comments. 2 ifs need to be mentioned

1st - if the jazz are looking at no playoffs or a 7th 8th seed the should dump JJ for what ever asset they can get.

I hate to say it but JJ is not part of the future f the jazz. I live the guy and would love to see him retire s jazz man but our current future is in a couple to a few years out.

2nd If the jazz are in serious play off contention ie the 4th to 6th spots or better sure keep him and let's see how far this team can go.

The jazz must look at the future more then the present if they want to get back into contention.

Look at the payroll situation. If Jazz plan on keeping two of the following: Hood, Exum and Favors, they probably can't pay JJ to return. However, with Favs an UFA and Jerebko the only other PF, DL might see if JJ will return for a little less.

I'm sure a few teams might be willing to give him their MLE. Maybe a 2 yr/$18m contract IF DL can't find a better option?

I really don't care if we re-sign him... I won't trade him for what I believe the likely return would be as long as we are in the playoff hunt. If he came to us and said he is like to go to a contender can u make a trade? I'd accommodate him if we could get a second. Think of the contenders... now think about what they can offer to match salaries... now think about how they can compensate us.

There is no deal straight up... if it is Favs and JJ for Love then maybe. His salary is big enough that moving him to a contender will be tough.

So we want to make the playoffs on the back of Joe Johnson?

If trading Joe Johnson is the difference between us making or missing the playoffs, we are better off without him and learning how to win without him.

I'd keep him as long as he's playing at a high level. Hayward leaves and you guys want to burn it down. JJ and Jingles will be critical pieces this year. I'm glad they're both withthe Jazz as they transition to Rudy's team.

again I agree with CY. I had better go outside and see if brimstone and fire is falling from the sky

The higher the level he plays at only makes him more trade worthy.

We should just cut him now... he's clearly hindering our other dudes.

We'd be better off keeping JJ and having him as a contributor than missing the playoffs and having our guys have more responsibility. Our guys already have too much responsibility.

We've built the roster for 48 minutes of good players at all the positions and JJ is clearly a part of that... unless we do better than a second rounder I would hang up the phone. Never mind that these are people and not robots and JJs presence clearly helps our lockeroom. Young guys need the vet around to show them the commitment and work it takes to be great.

He's not off the table but I fail to see a deal that makes any damned sense.

Yeah, let's repeat the mistake the of not trading Millsap/Jefferon when we could cuz of vet leadership!

Rudy is our vet. Ingles is our vet. Hood is our vet. Favors is our vet. Sefolosha/Udoh/Jerebko/Rubio are vets.

We have vets besides Joe Johnson. It's not like our team is a bunch of young idiots who are lost without Joe Johnson. The reports about him are that he barely talks and he is just a "lead by example" kind of person, but the Jazz have hard workers on the team besides Johnson. What ever he has to teach, I'm sure our vets have absorbed it and can pass it down.

We are talking about landing a 2nd rounder here, right?

Completely different scenarios... go ahead and trade JJ to a non-contender and remember he chose us... Al and Millman did not. Everyone also ignores that we never got an offer to get a 1st rounder for either or both of them... because if we had we would have done it. Getting a second for one of those guys would not have mattered.

So JJ chooses us and we trade him... again which contender is giving us something for him? what are they giving? Taking a second from one of those teams is pointless as it would be the end of the second round. None will trade a first because the ones that would make a short sighted move like that likely already traded their first and don't have one.

So which non-contender is giving us something better and are we really willing to risk good will with JJ and one of the FA that actually picked us?

The concept of trading JJ for a second is dumb. It is more likely that JJ has more impact on winning in his second half of next season than the second rounder will have in his whole career.

Cy won't answer directly but yes a second rounder... and likely not a very good one unless there is a contender that holds some seconds from a ****ty team.

It is more likely that we buy JJ out (or he waves his remaining salary) to go chase a ring, than it is that we trade him for the "best package possible".

He is not off limits in a bigger trade and if someone offered a first then sure we trade him. I highly doubt the latter scenario happens unless someone gets desperate.

Go ahead and name the contenders that could send us a decent second round pick and have enough capspace to absorb Joe Jesus. I'm not interested in absorbing 10 million in trash contracts for the 56th pick in the draft. I'll keep Joe, thanks!
