3 years.
Hahahahhaha... what is the benchmark? Buying a house and renting it out?

Oh to be so naïve again... and I'm serious.
Disagree on that one. Marriage adds years to your sentence...umm, I mean life. Seriously, having that deep connection vs. just chasing temporary highs adds real substance. And I believe that adds years to your life, not the reverse. But I do agree with the "kids are awesome" part - at least until the teen years.Combining all this into the perfect answer; Marriage takes years off your life, kids are awesome and a high.
elaborate?

Just hide the harness, bro. And for what it's worth, so is mine. It's been rough, with a few times of real crisis and wanting to quit, but the single years were far more stressful and depressing, IMO.Kudos to you. I mean that.
My wife is hot, funny, cool... but still a pain in the *** on a daily basis. That's my paradigm.

You did have quite the single life! Your last name doesn't happen to be Bond, does it? I'm sure 99% of us didn't do even 1/3 of what you did. So yes, given that perspective I now understand your statement.Well, fwiw.. my single days ****ing rocked.
Went anywhere I wanted, dove on treasure ships, partied a little, hung out with mind-blowingly beautiful women.. but I concentrated on things that deep down meant a lot to me, as a single person. Archaeology, diving, going to small villages in 3rd world countries and sleeping on the beaches with the local fishermen. Wouldn't trade that for the world.
Nor would I trade my family to go back.
Just don't miss it, like 99% of people do, imo.

I traveled quite a bit in Europe before getting married - along with living in Brasil for 1 year. Not quite the adventures you had, but I'm glad I was exposed to different cultures as well. Living in CA also gives me a less insular world view, although with the way CA is heading, I might be looking to relocate soon enough. The best of it all, looking back, was time spent with the real people of different cultures. It didn't cost any money and changed me far more than anything else. So glad I did that before having children. Long story why.. but it changed my as a dad.

Grew up in SF area, but I'm currently in LA (well about 35 miles northeast). Decent family area right now where I live, but CA is in a pretty sorry state. Services cut all the time, taxes keep going up. Business outflow, particularly to mid and south west is much greater than inflow.San Fran area, right?

Yeah.. tons of my business relies on people leaving Cali.
