Jazz acquire Novak from Raptors

This was a good pickup that fills some needs.
A veteran spot up 3 point shooter.
Some salary filler. Jazz have to get to the minimum.
Another draft pick.
Can still make some more moves.
Can still keep E Murphy and Thomas.

We are going to not only overpay this pathetic scrub this year, but also next year as well - 3.5 mil wasted. And for what - a 2nd round pick? This makes no sense at all. If we are taking 7 mil worth of garbage on our books, there had better be at least a first round pick involved. Seems like a pretty bad move for DL.

Can you show me a salary dump in NBA history when a team picked up a first round pick for $3.5M per year? That would be quite extraordinary. Extraordinarily stupid for the team giving up the first.

In my opinion, this trade shouldn't be getting anybody excited. Novak is a "keep-gettin-dem-checks" kind of guy. I hope they know he's a good locker-room presence, because that'll be his biggest influence on the team's performance.

The only point of this trade that piques my interest is the clear signal it sends about our relationship to the three-point line. That's nice.

*shrug* Jazz signed Kyle Korver when Sloan was still the coach.

The Jazz don't "have" to get to the minimum. There is an incentive to not be below the minimum but it's a very small incentive.

What more would you liked to have seen us receive in a deal like this?

I'm not sure I would like to see a deal like this at all. We don't get anything out of it besides a warm body. If I'm going to get excited about this, it's going to be because we brought back a real asset. I just don't see the point unless the Jazz believe Novak can play (and I personally don't think he can). Marvin is better.

Great move!

Not everyone can be a 20 pt scorer or a DPOY candidate.

Like Korver, He spreads the floor and nails the 3. Many of you talk about what Novak does. Hardly any of you are talking about what Novak does for his other 4 teammates on the floor.

I think Mr Favors and Mr Novak are going to be good friends.

Marvin was in the bottom 10 catch and shoot players in the league. His shooting was vastly overrated.

Novak is a better catch and shoot 3 pt bomber.

We got a situational 3pt shooter.

I think you've gotta be continually making solid small moves like this. I would consider Giricek for Korver the same kind, though I think utilizing Korver better would have improved our team game more than we'd allow it because we were resistant to shooting from the outside. I think trading trash for Fisher, despite him shooting poorly and leaving like a douche, was a huge part in us making our WCF run, despite how much we hate that guy now. Jason Hart for Brevin Knight should have been one of those deals but ended up working out about as well as Hart.

This is a solid move. There aren't any veterans I really want to bring in unless they'll add a lot to our team. I don't see a lot of guys we can reasonably obtain that I'd take. I'd pick up a Chris Singleton and call it a day.
