Apparently this guy reported the Fournier signing before anyone else and a few other things.

It completes the trifecta of random internet sources. @bigmike said a deal was agreed upon, ICC from the Heat forum said the Heat were notified that they were out of the running and now this.

Dude is probably just citing me for putting IceColdCubano and BigMike together in one post here. :D

I stopped following jazz for a couple of years so can someone remind me why I am supposed to be excited about trading a young star who is under contract and not a knucklehead? For picks? I remember when our last pile of picks netted us Kanter, Burke and Exum.

And if another team...say Minnesota or Sacramento or Charlotte parted ways with their GM, and their coach, and traded their best players for trade able contracts and draft picks....I would conclude the team was being sold. Why am I not worried about the Seattle Jazz?

Because the goal is to build a team that can make the NBA Finals rather than a team that loses in the 1st round. That's what the new management is doing.

I’d probably go right back to not following them and save yourself the hassle of answering all those pesky questions.

The good point for me is that we have no reason to trade Don unless we got exactly want we want. Just wait and let the knocks come with the offer we want.
If the Lakers are involved, i do hope we buy out Westbrook. He is done.
If the lakers got Fournier and Conley, they probably be able to win again if AD and James stay healthy.

Add in pick swaps, and that’s pretty much what I’ve been saying all along. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Ainge get more out of it at this point though. I’m really glad that mother effer is on our side this time. I fully expect to see some unexpected assets like 2nd round picks end up in the deal as well.

Ainge & Ujiri - those are the two guys I’d hate to have to strike a deal with because I’m going to pay a premium no matter how strong my position is.

As long as all of the Knicks picks are included in the 5 plus 3 pick swaps that’s not the worst. Still would like to get 6 picks plus 2 pick swaps. 6 is the magic number to me.
6 only has any magic to me as a place to negotiate from. I cannot stress enough that their first goal is to get control over their top selection for the rest of the decade. If the Knicks trip and fall into a premium draft asset on the year the Jazz don’t have control of it then that could be the difference in getting multiple premium assets over the life of the deal or literally 0.

What I’m most hoping to see the Jazz get:

• 23/25/27 Knicks unprotected picks
• 29 Knicks top 5 protected pick
• 26/28 Knicks pick swaps
• 23 Mavericks top 10 protected pick
• 25 Bucks top 4 protected pick
• Toppin, Reddish and either Quickley or Grimes (plus Fournier who I’ve come around on as a perfect vet for a tanking team)
• The draft rights to PG: Rokus Jukobaitis and a couple of extra 2nd round picks as throw ins.

As we saw with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson a few years ago, injuries to star players absolutely wreck the season of a contender. I’d like the most unprotected picks the Jazz can get and then see how it plays out from there.

23/25/27 unprotected
29 top 5 protected
26/28 pick swaps

That’s the key to the deal right there. Everything else is just filler (although I do think Obi Toppin has a chance to be a really good starting caliber forward.)

I think it’s possible that the Donovan Knicks are never actually good so that’s why I’m still hunting for a ‘24 swap that is functional.

Here’s what I’m thinking currently: say they can get a protected first in ‘24 that is likely to convey from the Raptors (or whoever) for Bogey (or whoever) and they put in the language that the Knicks get the least preferable of the picks due to the Jazz. If the Jazz are bad enough to keep their own pick and the Knicks are also bad, then the Jazz should get the two highest picks of the three and the Knicks would get the lowest. If the Jazz rebound and don’t keep their ‘24 then the Jazz get the higher of the Knicks or Raptors. If neither the Raptors nor Jazz picks conveys because of protections then the Jazz get a 2nd or maybe swap just doesn’t happen. Something like that.

But I strongly believe that the Jazz need to be in position intercept any possibility of a premium draft asset falling the Knicks’ way.
