Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I just don't buy the idea of re-tooling around Donovan at all. If the Knicks don't meet Ainge's asking price, he may keep him into the season, but I don't think there will be any re-tooling to try and actually be competitive. I think they will still want to lose as many games as possible and then look to trade him at the deadline in February. I think Locke's just talking out of his *** again.
I dont want to retool around Donny either but Locke is simply framing the implications of what more and more folks are saying. Most likely the narrative the Jazz want out there.

I'm going to dance in glee in the event another team sends us a sweeter deal for DM than New Dork is offering.

**** the Knicks.

And if we don't receive a solid trade offer I'm fine with us keeping DM this season. Let other trades happen so a team can accumulate what's needed to trade for DM.

Honestly, I see the Jazz front office wanting to play the narrative that the Jazz are willing to retool around DM. That sends a message to the league to up your price.

What did Minny say about Gobert? They said that there were other offers out there but that the TOUGHEST offer to compete against was the Jazz. Convincing the Jazz to release Gobert was very difficult.

I understand that things change now that Gobert is gone, but frankly, they don't change that much. We have what you want. You don't get it any other way than meeting our asking price. Don't like it... deal with all the angry fans because everyone basically is assuming you are going to do your job and pay what I am asking. New York of all places understands that when you want value, you pay for it.

Nuuuuuuuu Yaaaaaaawk keep crying. You're gonna have to pay or the pitch forks are coming out.

This won't age well for the Knicks management if they don't do something. This won't age well long term if they do something. It's a joy to watch all the whining.

I just think its laughable that NY is like "its us or nothing!" Nope there are 28 other bidders and we can just keep him.

Also, here is the thing I keep thinking about... once Toronto is out of the KD bidding... would they give up 3 firsts and OG (plus salary filler) for Don? I think so. Would Cleveland give up two firsts and some salary for OG? I think so...

If we can get 5 firsts from two different teams... like that is close to as good as getting 4 unprotected firsts from NY... maybe better. There are other comparable offers out there. They will pay or miss out.

Difference is Gobert was the final (big) piece to a puzzle, so they were willing to overpay.

The Knicks still have a lot of moves to make and setup so they are trying to do the first big move without overpaying too much because they probably arent 100% sure what the next moves are.

If they had a Kawhi Leonard type waiting in the wings who was like "Hell yeah I'm signing with ya'll if you get Mitchell" they would meet our demands.

In my estimation the Knicks shouldn't be that pressed to get Mitchell this year. They can afford to wait IMO, and so can they Jazz. So I really dont think it happens this year

Seems like the Jazz are faking a bunch of news. Other buyers, looking for a different start to pair with Mitchell, Turner trade etc. I don't know if this is having any effect or not, but with the NBA schedule release I think the Knicks may be winning the battle and the Jazz might have to cave first. Maybe it is having an effect. I think I saw a headline about SAS clowning the Knicks for not getting Mitchell and that is the exact type of media we need. It's the most uninteresting and interesting waiting game.

I think their argument is if you get Don then the other guy comes (in FA or demands a trade?). While I get that they could wait it out... it will get difficult to pull moves off and the waiting game in between may devalue some of their assets (opposite could happen) while not improving the asset base a whole lot. Like maybe RJ, Grimes, Toppin, Quickley haven't shown improvement... they lose some cap flexibility waiting a year as well.

It all depends on where each side is. If Jazz are demanding Grimes 4 unprotected picks and other picks... then NY should wait. If NY thinks they are getting Don for Grimes 2 unprotected picks and 3 of their ****** picks I think the Jazz can do better and should wait. The sweet spot is 3 unprotected (24/26/28) and a pick swap for 2023 (with the Minny pick), plus Grimes and our pick of 2 of the other picks they own. I think both sides can live with that. Maybe have to sub Toppin/Quickley for Grimes.

I think both teams should accept that deal. I have a feeling that Danny might be the holdout on a deal like that if it stalls.

I do think Toronto could come strong with an offer if they miss out on KD or Nets just say they aren't moving him. They have an interesting window to do something and their roster could get way more spendy without improving much if they don't consolidate a little.

I do wonder if they have the basic framework put together already and once we can do other stuff the trade breaks. Don is obvi super quiet about it... we had the news a while back that it was "done". Wonder if we kinda know and just doing a little due diligence while the clock runs out on the minny traded players.

That sounds imaginary. There is not nearly as much pressure on the Jazz to make the trade as there is on the Knicks.
Actually there is zero pressure on Jazz. Don still have 3 years contract and can be move later in the season or next. That's why i'm pretty convinced that if the offer don't match Jazz FO expectation, we will make other moves and make one more run with Don. Time will tell.

I doubt there is 0

0 pressure, probably not, but probably 0 urgency to get a deal before the season starts or very minimal if the deal isn’t what they want.

If the report is correct that the 49ers had some offers they liked the deal might be done by now if the jazz felt urgency or pressure to trade Don.
I mean if Don is going to the Niners I am going to want at least Fred Warner back to start the rebuild. We need a defensive specialist.

49ers? Have you been huffing glue again? We told you to stop that, idiot!
