Jazz are shopping Jefferson and Millsap according to ESPN

At the very least I'm glad The Jazz are not repeating history. In 2003-04 their two best players played the same position (AK and Harpring). At that time Harp was coming off a borderline all-star season and had best production to value of contract in the NBA - he was also vastly overrated. He was a 6th man that they easily could have traded for another starter. Instead they waited and were stuck with his two bad knees.

I hate to compare Millsap to Harpring; but The Jazz may have a similar scenario on their hands.

Except Millsap has knees and passes. The mistake was extending Harpring 4 years, not keeping him. Would this franchise be in any better of a place had they done that?

I don't know and neither do you. I do know his trade value was expoenentially higher than his worth. Perhaps they could have traded him in 2004 for a real SG instead of playing Giricek and Fisher when they competed in the conference finals just a few years later.

Agreed. Jefferson's style of play just doesn't seem to allow for a lot of growth from those around him. He has a tough time finding the open man when he is double and triple teamed. If any of you have played with a guy that tries to find his shot despite being double and triple teamed you know how frustrating it is, I am sure the other guys feel the same way.

LoL, yeah, I have. Although, the good thing about Jefferson, is that he's so good at the pump fakes and up-and-unders that he can actually score quite a bit thru double and triple teams. If Jefferson is to stay, then I think a really good player to model would be Hakeem Olajuwon. He has really good footwork. He kept defenses guessing on whether he was going to dish out to shooters or spin and score. The Rockets won the title 2 years in a row when they used the post w/ 4 shooters combo. Jefferson is talented enough that we could actually use that strategy. I just don't know if the Jazz are willing to try that.

The good thing about keeping Millsap, is that he can actually shoot from the outside. We haven't used that ability of his that much because guarding small forwards takes a bit more speed than Millsap has shown. Although, if he watches Rocky III about a hundred times and trains with Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed) then maybe speed won't be an issue anymore. ;) heh

Seriously, I think we're fine to keep them both. I actually think if it came from the Jazz then it's just KOC doing his job and asking "what if?" scenarios. The other possibility is another team wanting one or both and wanted to get the idea floating out there to be mulled over. Guess we'll see pretty soon if we start hearing more rumors about them.

If someone wants to overpay, you deal either one. But I'd rather open the season with both. I am getting more curious though as to what type of offers KOC might be fielding.

If I remember right, Chicago offered the 3rd pick for him, which ended up being Ben Gordon.

With the rumors of Rondo and CP3 on the block as well, what does everyone think about a scenario like this?

Utah trades: Paul Milsap & Raja Bell
Utah receives: Rajon Rondo

Boston trades: Rajon Rondo & Ray Allen
Boston receives: Chris Paul

New Orleans trades: Chris Paul
New Orleans receives: Paul Milsap, Raja Bell & Ray Allen

I think that this works good for all involved. I am not a HUGE fan of Rondo but I think it would be a good and fair deal for the Jazz which is all I really care about.

New Orleans ought to get a better return for Paul than that. Good deal for Utah. A fair price for the Celtics to pay. But it's not a good fit for New Orleans who is trying to rebuild. Both Bell and Allen are at the end of their careers.

If a 3rd team gets involved in a trade with NOR, it would probably throw in an attractive pick or two.

I'm not convinced Rondo isn't a product of having three hall of famers next to him. Plus I don't think he would be happy here, he seems to have an attitude problem, probably from hanging around KG. Just my gut feeling but I think it would be a bad idea.

It's irrelevant to the Jazz becaise he won't end up here, but Rondo doesn't have an attitude problem, per se. He is a hard-working winner and demands more than what is sometimes deemed, healthy, from everyone around him .. can be a negative, but it's not a prima donna thing, it's intensity.

I would like Rondo if we could also get Granger. I think Rondo is useful as long as you can space the floor.

Ask yourself why a contender (or something close to it) and franchise that is almost always on the good side of a fleecing would be desperately trying to trade one of its marquee players. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know, I don't know what will.

New Orleans has no need for a PF and no one in the league has a need for two over-the-hill guards.

In order for this to work Chris Paul would have to agree to sign a long term contract extention with the celtics, something he's apparently not willing to do, so this deal won't happen unless that were to change, although with a GM like Danny Ainge, it seems likely that with the way he operates he'll try to trade Rondo for something else this season, who knows why, honestly he's a perfect fit for the Jazz, with all the talent they have developing, a pure point guard. But hopefully he stays a celtic

The reason Ainge will try to trade Rondo is simple. The Celts are older than dirt and they don't need to spend $40MM on Rondo .. they'd rather have that money to start rebuilding the 'next' team. FWIW, I love Rondo .. and even though most around here don't like him .. he would be a GREAT fit.
