The Nuggets actually worked out 41 year old Elson this offseason!
 
Pleiss could be pretty good in the Jazz system, However I don't think anyone should get their hopes up for the second coming of Nenad Kristic... Luckily the Jazz won't need him to be anywhere near that effective.

My biggest issue is he's the kind of soft that shies away from contact(I watched him play 2 playoff games last month). He's not slow or uncoordinated though, so at that size with his activity level there's upside. He's probably sub-par in the rebounding dept, who knows, might be average.. He shows good hands for catching passes which I think the F/O is probably excited about.

Regardless of the weight he's listed, he's not strong in the lower body, he plays with a high center of gravity. I'd certainly worry about foul issues because he's likely to find himself in some compromised situations, especially if you're talking extended minutes.. Favors or Trevor Booker playing next to him does seem like a good compliment to his game though.


I'll just say this, he's no Walter Tavares! (who turned down 3 mil from CSKA Moscow to come to the NBA, I doubt Pleiss had that type of an offer)

'Edy' blocked the **** out of him multiple times 2 seasons ago(Laboral Kuxta vs Herbalife Gran Canaria), and kept him off the offensive glass totally and without a FG make.

Pleiss could end up an efficient player though. Here's some highlights from a 25 point game.

Plus Mozgov has been in the league a couple of years now. So basically a less-bulkier Mozgov that is just coming into the league.
 
Get the boy to P3. Rudy has grown leaps and bounds (literally) in his physical development since he arrived in the U. S. - Lets face it. American players have much better training than their international counterparts, while international players (Euros in particular) have superior fundamentals and understanding of team play concepts.

He has tools to work with, but the Jazz need to get him focused on developing NBA strength and have their coaches start tweaking things. His release in the grainy workout video looked a lot faster and more smooth than it has in some of his game stuff. Hopefully he continues that trend.
 
Fairly encouraged by his per 36 rebs of 11 per game. And at 86% FTs we shouldn't be seeing any Hack-a-Tibor either. So there's that.

- unreal shooting mechanics for a dude his size. I've seen him hit like 20 footers in-game (rare, wasn't demanded of him ever). His FT% is >80.

We could do a lot, lot worse for a backup 5 IMO. I'm optimistic. He had a good year in his season before signing with Barcelona, and OKC was trying to pick him up. Didn't end up working out, and he had a down-year playing behind Tomic. He's still pretty young.

Ugh, what? Dude won't be able to play 10 minutes because he will keep fouling everybody left and right. Around 6 fouls per 36 minutes in Euroleague. His career per 40 pace adjusted foul average is 5.9 and it is in the Europe. It will be much worse in NBA.
 
Avoiding fouls in the NBA is about footwork, strength and timing. I fully expect him to improve in all three areas while playing for the Jazz. Agree that it will be rough to start, but I think he'll show a significant improvement even this first season.

I don't remember it being that bad. I do remember the Brevin Knight, Jason Hart, and Raja Bell hate. They were pretty impressive.
 
Jazz paid the full amount that they could towards the buyout. That means that the $625,000 that was paid doesn't come out of the salary cap. I'm expecting a similar buyout for Neto. This means that by selling that pick #54 to Portland, DL got the money needed for the Millers to sign off on bringing both guys over, and it doesn't hurt the team's cap flexibility.

Hell, they'd even have another $625,000 still left if they want to make a push for Tomic too, now that they've seen the free agent market. His buyout will be much higher than either Pleiss/Neto, and it will force them to pay above his contract (or structure it with a significant signing bonus) - but they have the cash and cap space to pursue it if Snyder really is as big of a fan as has been suggested.

Here's my predictions. He'll struggle his rookie year ala Gobert who often looked lost his rookie season. He'll get really good coaching, strength training, and practice against Gobert, Favors and Lyles. Second season, he'll come back bigger, stronger, and more knowledgeable. He'll have learned how to play defense without fouling too much and will become a really solid, perhaps the most solid back-up big in the NBA. The Jazz will hands down have the best rim protecting line-up of bigs in the League. I think its very possible between him and Lyles, Booker becomes obsolete. Ya I know, overly optimistic, but certainly possible.
