Jazz considering Jonas Valanciunas at #3

Scout.jpg

Sheesh, you know everybody.

Biyombo's standing reach is either 9'3" or 9'4" - the same as dwight Howard, but a few inches less than Valanciunas. BUT Biyombo's athleticism is superior to Valanciunas so it probably evens out. although I'm guessing Bismack is significantly better defensively - and his defense will probably permeate to the rest of the team. He's fun.

The area I like Valanciunas better in is his insane FT%. Love it. Bismack's at what, 50%? But should get better I think. He's not lazy.

I like both guys and hope the Jazz get one of them or maybe Kanter. Don't want a PG with the 3rd pick.

Yeah, I think Biyombo has more ability to be dominate defensively, but Jonas has the ability to be more of a well rounded player who is also great defensively. Pretty hard choice between the two for me.

I don't see him inm the mix at #3, but if a deal came up and the Jazz moved down...perhaps. Or maybe if the buyout situation is not resolved, he ends up sliding.

Most scouts love JV over Kanter for his motor and work ethic. He has been posting incredible numbers at age 18 in euroleague play, the closest league competition wise to the NBA. My concern is will he ever get to 250-260 pounds, the language barrier, and buyout.

Kanter played with JV like a toy when he played against him 2 yrs ago

while we have Favors, considering to draft Valanciunas is really unnecessary

I disagree. In 2 years Jefferson and Millsap's contracts are up and by then there will be a much more clear picture of whose team this is between them, Favors and Val. JV and Favors could very easily end up the starting front line and if they both live up to their potential this would be a dominant inside defensive duo. In the meantime Jefferson and Millsap are both very good players just coming into their prime. After the end of next season and going into 2012 a decision will have to be made but whoever isn't kept will still be a valuable commodity. Who knows, maybe there is room for everybody if Sap can play the 3.

You don't draft players based on what the team will look like their rookie year.

im not arguing the front court rotatioon but i believe kanter is a much better fit to favors than valanciunas

Sep-kanter is a much better fit to favors than valanciunas

BN- Maybe, but JV and Favors are definitely better fits for Jefferson. My main problem with Kanter is that he is redundant with Al, I don't see that with JV/Favors.

If most scouts loved him over Kanter, he'd be projected higher than Kanter in the majority of mocks. Get a ****ing clue hack. Hyperbole's this month's go-to move.

That he's rated almost as high, even with the buy-out concern signals that he is close. If he could come over this season he might be rated equal or even ahead. Most teams are not going to stash a Euro for a few years. I know, it happened with Rubio. But few GM's have enough job security to tell their owners and fans...we're going to be just as bad next season because I'm selecting a player we won't even see for two more years. Do that and you'll soon be the ex-GM of the team.

"Informal GM poll: Who's the best int'l player in the draft? Vesley 5 votes; Kanter 4 votes; Valanciunas 3 votes. All said it's very close" - Chad Ford

They are all pretty close in terms of how teams feel about them. There is no unanimous "best player" like many of the Kanter (homers) supporters think.

The only reason he's projected lower is due to the buyout situation. He is ahead of Kanter on the most respected mock and has been for the entire year, and every scout Locke interviewed liked him better as well. Basically anyone who has actually seen him play in real life.....which isn't you.

Which is the most respected mock? DX? Why?

KoC is doing his job very well; considering ALL possibilities... Nothing's locked in concrete, and a trade is still a possibility!

He does his own research - conducts the most interviews between players and agents by far. Travels overseas to research players like actual scouts. Is privy to all type of exclusive information (like Kanter's complete high school games). His track record in the last 3 years has been impeccable. He nailed the top 6 perfectly every year except for Johnny Flynn in 2008. And that was Kahn at work :)

BTW, Ford's latest Mock also now has Kanter at 6 as well. Givony sets the standard, the others simply parrot his information and try to dress it up like they actually formed this opinion on their own.
