What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

I’m reading all these names people are throwing out there and I’m frankly just not interested.

Jazz have the role players they need. Now it’s time to strike. Go after that big name. Sell the pair of Gobert and Mitchell, the player oriented coaching staff, the strong FO commitment to winning, how they watch and care for their players families, the rabid fan base...

Either sign a big name like Paul George or bring back this exact same team (Sign Exum and sign Favors to a 1 year deal). Then try again next year for the next group of big names. It’s time to compete as a true contender.

A Beverly or a Harris won’t push us past the Rockets or Warriors. But a George might.

Yup, or wait until the deadline and see who needs what, wants to dump for an expiring to get below LT this year or the next couple seasons...

So if we were to renounce Favors and make a big trade with Burks and cap space that puts us slightly over the cap, we simply can't spend any more money?

That doesn't seem right. It would seem to me that the trade puts us over the cap apron which then makes the exceptions more available.

Someone please clarify.

As I look at the list of available free agents and the teams with space I am all in on patience. I see Favors as a top 10 talent in the current market. Favors provides significant insurance in the event of a Gobert injury and variety in our lineup at PF. At a salary of 4 40 he would be a bargain maybe even more with a decreasing salary. I think many are under estimating the value of diversity in the lineup. Favors as a power 4/5 and ingles as a stretch 4. There will be as many if not more value contracts as last year and probably some played bought out not currently on the radar. A couple I am looking at would be Ellington, Tolliver and several others I can’t recall off the top of my head.

Giving Favors $10 this year is fair because its above market value because its a buyers market. Giving Favors more than this year is a risk not worth taking especially at $10.

Our defense and team sucked when Gobert was out. That says a lot to the people who claim Favors is excellent insurance for a Gobert injury. As for PF, I still have major questions about Favors' ability to play alongside Gobert in the playoffs against good teams.

No but you get the the room mid level which is less and minimums... otherwise every team would try to have their cake and eat it too.

The MLE and BAE are for teams operating over the cap. It isn’t that hard.

Thing to watch... if Bjelica does not get his qualifying offer. If so I think we sign him with part of MLE for a year with a team option. Being unrestricted will Make it easier for us to structure something good for both parties.

“I’m just trying to find the right situation that makes sense for me as a player. Be in the right spot. Get a chance to showcase my talent. Get a chance to showcase what I can do."

I think he is gone. He has said and done all the right stuff until now, but I think he wants a chance to be featured more. If he stays here, he will get shoved more and more into the background. So many here are talking about his value as Gobert's insurance as much as his value as a starter. He is the 5th most important starter here. He wouldn't be that at most other teams.

Go get George Hill.

Atl takes Burks, Jonas and Epke, 2 losely protected firsts, and 2 seconds from Utah.
Utah gets Hill.
CLE sheds $19 million in salary plus an assload in LT relief, and a valuable TPE to help retain LBJ.

ATL can waive the two between the 6th and 8th of July. Burks is a tradable expiring. Atl is getting the same deal utah got in the Boedrins, Rush, Jefferson trade but on much better financial terms. Plus, they could possibly parlay those players into more picks.

Hill would be a perfect backup 1 and combo 2. He's shot over 40% from downtown several seasons and knows how to get to the line. If he doesn't work out, his next season is only 1 million guaranteed.

P.s. don't listen to ESPN trade machine. This works.

Thinking of Dante Exum....

I heard/read that Milwaukee is trying to move off of Bledsoe because Gianiss doesn't like him. And Phoenix is going to renounce all their pgs and they are looking for a pg and back-ups.

Which makes for many questions. Would Phoenix take Isaiah Thomas back? Would he go back? Bledsoe burned his bridges on his way out of Phoenix will anyone trade with Milwaukee?

The Bucks would be wise to trade Bledsoe and Dellie to the Cavs for George Hill.

Bucks shed Bledsoe and Dellie's $9 million for 2019. Cavs get a better PG and their boy Dellie back.

Unless something unexpected happens and one of the big name guys want to come to Utah, I think the Jazz simply tweak this offseason. It sounds to me like they believe if Dante and Favs come back they are a 55-58 win team and they keep saying both publicly and through folks like Tony J that they want them both back. I also think they believe that Thabo could be very valuable as a stretch 4 in some lineups and that he combined with Crowd could really help. If the right MLE type player is available they may get rid of the end of the bench guys but they are simply going to dabble on the edges. Pretty obvious I guess.

It mentioned that the Pelicans might have to waive Darius Miller would be an awesome pick up to replace Thabo. The dude is a 41% 3pt shooter.

No way they do that... I'd pick him up in one damn second.

Whatever happens with Favs I will cheer his *** off for his entire career... Can't say enough about how classy he has been.

Maybe, and if so and the right contract comes along, I don't begrudge him that one bit. I would miss his versatility to play the 4 and 5, but Utah does have some depth at the 5 at this point (Bradley, Udoh) and we are looking to re-tool the 4 this offseason.

Still though, if you love a thing....

He says later on in the same article that there's a good chance he resigns quickly because he likes Utah

Ha ha Cleveland fans....you lost LEbron to the Lakers, but you got your guy Dellie back to play behind Bledsoe and Sexton.

Although....Cleveland hasn't won a title since Dellavedova left there.....
