Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

He can't be at a place to "show what he can do" and "hope he resigns quickly". If he was staying, he would simply say I hope I'm back and not all this stuff about controlling his destiny, being excited about talking to teams and wanting to showcase his talent.

He is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Or he is simply approaching free agency that has a ton of unknowns by keeping his options open. Favs will learn a lot in the first few days of free agency

You don't know wtf you are talking about. Favors-Gobert were more than double the minutes in the next highest 5 man unit, and also the 4th (merely 76 minutes less) and the 6th.

If you would have actually read what I wrote you would have noticed I said in crunch time, like the last few minutes of a game. How many games did we finish with Gobert and Favors on the floor together the last two seasons? Very, very few. Last season Joe Johnson pretty much always finished games at the 4 and after the trade deadline this season it was Crowder closing out games at the 4. Quin rarely has Favors in the lineup to close out games.

This is true. Usually the line-ups were, from what I saw and checked, Crowder, Gobert, Mitchell, and Rubio, with either Ingles or Royce as the 5th wheel.

We desperately need a big who can switch and hit 3s. This is what Quin likes. This is what DL explicitly said we need "The moment we traded Trey Lyles, we knew we will need to find another 6'10" big who can shoot 3s" he said. This is why I want them to prod a bit at Bender/Skal/Hernangomez(DEN)... young players that fit our new timeline and fit into the role that would be vacated by Favors if he leaves.

I think I would give up a first for Bender. I would give up seconds for Skal and Hernangomez. Both of Skal and Hernangomez fit into our trade exception and can be gotten without giving up a player(if their team doesn't want salary back)

I recently weighed the options of a career move. Went pretty far down the path of recruitment from the new organization. I had to make plans with family as if we were moving while playing it cool with the co-workers. During that time someone could have accused me of talking both sides of my mouth. The truth was I was undecided but I could talk as if I made either choice. I think it is way I handled the stresses involved. I don't consider myself less honest for what I said in that time period.

I don't envy these young men. Big bucks on the line and people expecting you to make quick decisions that will alter your life. FYI, once I decided what to do I immediately made a phone call to announce my intentions. It didn't take me 16-hours to type out a letter.

Locke continues to be strangely obsessed with Doug... so... might be worth following...

I envy these young men. There are big bucks on the line and they play basketball to earn those big bucks.
If only I could be so lucky

I kinda like Doug... Now he's unrestricted... I wouldn't offer much more than the minimum though.

I wanted Dougie coming out of college. I have wanted him at numerous different points since then as I think he can play a strong role in the right scenario. That scenario isn't here and it isn't now. If he were two inches taller, a capable defender, and grabbed rebounds, then he'd be a perfect fit. He'd also be unattainable.

I woke up at 5 AM so I could play pickup... nobody paid me... sucks!

I think Bender is trash... no way I'd give up a pick for him.

Hernangomez for a 2nd is doable imo... they'd like to clear salary (even if it is small) and may need roster spots too. Give them cash, 2nd, and use the exception for Juan.

He's totally obtainable.

Dallas is clearing space and it makes me happy. They will make Houston and NO pay to retain Capela and DMC or one of those guys will play for them.

I've always liked Bender more than most. He's still just 20. I think there is real talent there.

Maybe... Phoenix has a way of making young players look terrible.

Depending on what Denver does with Barton they will be in a spot where they pay 2.5 to 4 per dollar spent on salary. Clearing Juan's 2.1M while getting "something" seconds and maybe some cash (I hear we have 1.5M burning a hole in our pocket) would save them $5-8M in luxury tax. So save $10M to move a guy that likely doesn't crack the rotation again... not bad.
