Jazz Get 21st Overall Pick

I know the big names but not much about who will be available at our pick. So I’ll jusy trust the dudes who seem like they know what they’re talking about here (Cy nailed the Kuzma thing so he has good credibility for the time being) I had never heard Donovan’s Mitchell’s name before when we picked him. Although I did fall in love right away.

You are the only person trolling here if you think Porter can play 4 in the modern NBA. There are always the few uninformed people who will look at Porter in college and saw he played PF then say he is a PF, but I wouldnt listen to those people. 95% of educated draft writers/thinkers dont think Jontay can be a 4.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of drafting Porter in the first round.

Markkanen is a much better athlete than Porter, and no I don't like Markkanen as a 4 either. Lauri can get away with it tho due to his better athleticism and much better shooting/release point/speed.

I think the Jazz will take a serious look at Porter for the 21st pick and it will be to play him significant minutes next to Gobert. If they come to the same conclusion as you that he's a defensive liability and can't defend the 4, they probably won't draft him. Will be very interesting to see.

They will look at everyone, because it's their job. They arent drafting him and they arent drafting him to be a 4 next to Gobert.

I agree much more with the Jokic comparison, though I think he's a little more athletic in most areas.
He can run the floor. That's basically as a far as Porter's athletic ability goes. I think he is pretty close to Jokic level in a lot of areas. And if a team tries to play him at PF, it will be about as successful as when Malone tried to play Jokic at PF next to Nurkic.

I'll post this one more time and put it to bed. Porter's mobility may not be ideal, but he's markedly quicker and bouncier than Nikola Jokic. Jokic is quite possibly the slowest guy in the league right now (aside from Al Jefferson), and it's a pretty big exaggeration to compare Porter to Jokic.

You literately showed two clips of Jontay playing PNR defense w/ drop coverage, like a center and doing it poorly. You pointed out a clip of him handchecking as proof he could be a 4. And you are saying I'm trolling?

Guarding pick and roll is precisely what Porter will be expected to do at the next level. If he's going to defend out on the floor, he'll need to try to contain guard penetration. He's doing well in these clips for a guy his size, and your hand-check comment is overblown.

No it's not. It's a handcheck. Guarding the PNR in college and NBA are completely different things. Bigs who can play drop coverage successfully in the NBA have to be long. Porter isnt long.

No, its pretty accurate.

And saying all this, I still really like Porter, I absolutely believe he should go 1st round, I just think he's pretty solidly a 5 so he wouldn't be a good fit here in Utah. Not too concerned about his block numbers either, doesn't look like a great defender or anything, but he looks serviceable (4.0 blocks/100).

Take Cy with a grain of salt— I’ve lost count on the ones he’s whiffed on as well.

With respect to what I’ve seen, I’m wordied about Jontay’s D a little. I did like his release and his passing, but I’ll keeo looking across the draftboards for a Bembry/DraymondGreen/Royce white type

What can y’all tell me about Isaac Bonga, and Moritz Wagner? Bates-Diop seems very “Jazz pick”

He loved Otto Porter. Otto Porter was so bad that I made fun of Cy. Even Otto Porter turned out to be good in the end.

You sound like a potential Gary Clark fan.

Measurements from the Portsmouth:

That's why the Jazz tanked the Portland game. Strategery.
