Jazz Getting a New GM?

hollinger's a hack.

ok, make it kevin pelton... i don't really care who it is, but there are a lot of smart people talking about better ways to assess talent, and the jazz have largely been absent from that conversation.

i remember one year a reporter asking jerry is anybody from the jazz would plan to attend the "sloane" conference at MIT, where 20+ teams and some of the brightest minds in sports analytics get together to discuss new ways to look at the game. jerry just looked confused and told the reporter he didnt' know what he was talking about. it was simultaneously funny and sad.

i love hearing some of the next-gen mindset coming from this guy. i know nothing about him, but have long felt that the jazz needed to go see "moneyball" or have lunch with hollinger or something. the fact that bell started half the season is proof enough of that.

How many titles has a "moneyball" approach brought to cities? I think the success in Oakland was largely due to having high draft picks and prioritizing pitchers. SF did the same without a "moneyball" approach and won a title. In the NBA, the moneyball approach is to throw as much $ as possible at the best FA's, make a key trade with the league's assistance, or tank in the right year to get a franchise big.

Just to let you know, Maynor was traded to get rid of Harpring's contract. And Brewer was traded in order to ensure they could sign Jefferson the next year after Boozer left.
Nope. Brewer was traded because he and his agent were FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR apart in terms of money demands prior to the season. KOC couldn't get an extension signed and knew there was virtually ZERO chance of re-signing Brewer at a price close to what the Jazz thought a poor-shooting SG should get.

Just listened to JVG on Dennis Lindsey. He worked with him in Houston and was very high on him. He said the Jazz are VERY fortunate to get him and that he will be an excellent GM.

For whatever that's worth.

Word is that the Jazz will haze Lindsey by making him take a picture like this:

Can someone tell me the story behind this amazing photo?

Blame the equipment guy. He was told the Jazz were bringing back "Layden" so he grabbed the shirt and pants that belonged to Frank and gave them to Jr. There was no time to correct the error before the phot shoot. Scotty Boy was told to just puff out his body the best he could to keep the clothes from falling off.

Hopefully his first order of business is relaying to KOC, Miller, and the coaches that the Spurs celebrated their first round draw because they knew they wouldn't have to worry about a team with Al Jefferson.

ok, so my memory may not quite be intact, but I seem to recall someone complaining about that picture for showing the outline of something deemed questionably indecent...

(ok, I'll run and duck for cover now...)

Very interesting how much Lindsey has talked about defense is essential to a player getting playing time, and how he would discuss with Corbin who plays and doesn't play.

My interpretation:

The Jazz will not renew Corbin's contract after this year, Favors will get a LOT more playing time, Favors and Millsap will start (to get Al to wake up defensively, then when Al puts forth effort, Millsap will be traded), and after this year, an assistant coach from SA will be our new HC.

I can't say I would hate it if those things happened.

I wonder if Al Jefferson got sadly drunk when he saw the FO commit to new school basketball analytics?
