What's new

Jazz have a game in less than an hour (UTA @ OKC)

I have seen a few times this year where he was out of position on help defense. And late to recover in transition. And not being as quick laterally. But that is probably due to him being out of shape.

I agree with you. He's got some flaws not about being out of shape. Surprisingly boxin out problems on defensive rebounding, generally concentrating on his man too much and late to cover for help defense, mediocre PnR defense due to showing up too much far way of the rim and covering lately rolling man. He's gotta watch Asik's and Marc Gasol's matches.

Derrick's forcing everything. Not making reads at all. Just puts his head down and plows ahead. Ugly.

I've been saying this is my #1 reason to not extend him. I'm afraid he will make make Al look like an efficient offensive team player.

All Favors has seen is Al take the ball and go. And now Favors is the "leader" of this team with his new contract. And we have no offensive system to reign him in.

I worry that Favors will give us 15 and 12 with 2 blocks a game, but only shoot in the 46-48% range. And that sucks for a big man.

15 12 for Favors? It would be surprising performance to me. Averaging 15 points make him all star candidate and seen his contract bargain. 12 reb is much for him too due to Kanter's rebounding ability.

I hate saying this, but I'd rather have Big Al scoring 20 and 10 than Favors scoring 15 and 12 with a much lower fg%. 15 pts off 46% fg is 15 shots for 15 pts.

No thank you. Not for 12 million.

I hate Favors if he gets 15 pts off 15 shots. I LOVE Favors if he can get 15 pts off 9-10 shots. HUGE difference. One makes him a steal at 12 million and another makes him a poor man's but at almost the same cost Al Jefferson.

So far, Favors is 13-40 in the preseason. 32%. Ouch.

It's much about our guard problem. He's just finisher under the rim when he's passed well, not closer even scorer. He's gotta be involved in PnR and we gotta play up tempo to see his contribution of open court basketball. We've already know his post up or midrange shooting abilities so it's not surprising he's floundering.

Uhh. Defense? And the Jazz aren't building an entire offensive system around Favors?

I do not think Favors gonna use 15 shots may be with offensive reboundings. Kanter or Hayward's gotta make most of the attempts.

I completely agree with this.

Here is the next problem. Favors has seen Big Al dominate the ball. Favors is emulating this so far. What does he do when Burke comes back, and we draft a top 5 pick next year, and suddenly he is our third or fourth option on offense under a new coach with our scoring options being - #1 draft pick, #2 Burke, #3 Hayward, #4 maybe Favors, maybe Kanter?

Is he happy with that?

Kanter and Hayward will share the load of scoring naturally and he's gonna score of put backs and PnR baskets. Everyone knows he has got the contract of 49 mil dolar for his defense and rebounding. So i feel he's not kind of someone who complains about his role.

Think its asinine that most people are / were cool with the Favors overpay but now want to skimp on Hayward, who has clearly been the best player this preseason and seems on the brink of a breakout season. Now we get cheap? Pay the guy, its a 4 year contract at worst a million a year over what it should be.
