Jazz @ Kings 3/22/12 8PM MT Game Thread

How come nobody complains about Millsap? His defense has become pathetic. He was guarding chandler when he went off on the Jazz. He was guarding Thompson in the 1st quarter when he carried the kings. He was seriously dominating Millsap in the 1st quarter.

Millsap gets a free pass for the most part. Looks like he just didn't show up at all tonight on D. Was letting Thompson get any spot on the court, and Thompson just hit easy shots.

That is blasphemy to the AJ/TC hate crowd. Will never be recognized. Sap is awesome but does have his bad moments.

The Kings frontcourt gives the Al-Sap lineup fits. That's to be expected, and Paul has had a few absolutely fantastic games in a row. Not very good tonight, but we managed to get the W so it's okay.

I have to say, Favors has really converted me and seems to have turned the corner. Earlier this year he really was disappointing me and I was unsure if he would ever become what his talent should allow, but right now he is straight beasting on both ends of the floor.

Why? The game against Phoenix Millsap was the main reason we lost. Tonight everybody played good "D" except Millsap who was absolutely pathetic. This guy is easily the worst defensive big we have. If not the worst defensive player we have.

LOL he's like 4th in the league in steals!! Are you serious??

To get those steals he is completely leaving his man open. It's the Ronnie Brewer theory of defense. Just run around trying to steal the ball and forget about anything else on defense.

Steals is one of the worst stats to rate defense. Because to get them a lot of the time you are not defending your own man. It's easier to get steals from a guy your not supposed to be defending or by leaving your own man to get into passing lanes.

Not sure if serious. He does struggle against 6'11 players but the guy is a beast that plays great team defense and leads the entire league in steals (for big men).

You're gonna sit here and seriously try to get us to believe that's how he gets his steals? LOL. No dude... just no.

He has 1 bad game and now he's the worst defender on the team?? LOL. Holy flying reactionary hyperbole Batman.

TBH Sap is a pretty good defensive player. He just has ****ty games. This was not one of his best defensive games. Al is the same way. He has strengths on D and has certainly improved a lot since coming to Utah but will always have a couple possessions that are bad.

These types of things will always be blown up by posters with an agenda. Even if their agenda is right.

If you go through each play where the defense breaks down, you can clearly see that Milsap is usually having to help the guy that Al lets go.
Remember the Milsap + Favors lineup and how good it was defensively? But Al + Favs doesn't look very good?

There are times like tonight when Milsap is just too small to gaurd someone...but overall Paul is not a bad defender.

Sap is a "reacher" and "slapper" on D... Some days he'll get you 4-5 steals, other days he'll vanish. then you have Big Al... Dude always fails at boxing out on D-Rebounds and plays crappy D all around. Sadly though, that's expected of Al, plus he gets a lot of it back on the offensive end, so most "stat" and "box score" watching fans have no clue.

Look, Favors is Big Al with better D and a growing O that, not now but eventually will be, better than Al's.

Kanter on the other hand is like a "change of pace" RB in the NFL to Millsap. Millsap is like the smaller, quicker, versatile 1st and 2nd down back that makes the big bucks and can break off the big game-changer at anytime. Kanter is the bruiser, ie. the 3rd down back...put him in to keep the other team in check.

I like our team now, but if we lost Big Al for Favors, I wouldnt be sad about it.

Did anyone else see Hornacek's reaction on the final shot of the game. He just had this funny smug look on his face like "haha yeah right" and shook his head as Thornton missed.

Hey did everybody forget Burks' clutch layup? What the hell...I thought there'd be like 20 threads about how he's now the star of the team and can lead us in clutch time.

The dude got mauled too on that play! Should have been an and 1... The kid is clutch and will be something special VERY soon.

I'm just glad that Ty finally had the balls to bench CJ and put in burks. That move won the game.

Burks played an important role in the 4th quarter. He had 2 defensive rebounds, an assist and a lay-in when we needed it.

Yeah I forgot about that and-1

Clutchness is a big time skill. Lebron doesn't even have it. But Zulu is right, Ty won this game by putting CJ out.

Don't forget when he ripped the ball out of Cousins hands, when it looked like Cousin was going to have another offensive rebound with an easy put back.

This isn't the D-Will Boozer teams, they weren't going to get any better. This is a new era of Jazz basketball. There are 4 lotto picks already on this team with lots of talent and potential, who have hardly began to tap into the high potential that they have. As they gain more experience and more minutes they will evolve into a very good team, unless they never learn to win as a team or lose confidence unlike the Jazz of the past 6 years this team hasn't reached their ceiling, not even close. This young team reaching the playoffs and being able to have success will help this team more then a lotto pick and becoming even younger and continuing to rebuild.

Seriously. We are watching this team achieve an identity. This is a very young team. A very new coach. The people that want instant gratification might want to take a look at the Simmons' article thread. What Utah is doing is building an atmosphere of winning within a team concept.

Corbin is doing a superb job.

I find it amusing that everytime you two repeat this argument, you never talk about losing a valuble asset, that could be a critical building block in building this team. You always talk about how this team doesn't need any more youth, which really isn't true anyway, and isn't the only possibilty in how the team utilizes the asset. Adding one or two more pieces to develop with our core would be great, and the sooner the better if we're gonna do it. It's not like we can't afford to lose a spot to CJ/Bell/Howard/Carrol to make room. Or we could package the picks with a vet for a star player. Lots of possibilities, and yet you guys stick to the same old line.

By the end of this season, this team will be who they are, regardless of whether the can extend the season by 4-5 games. If they could somehow put themselves in a position to get to the second round, then I'm sold on the playoff experience being worth the loss of an asset. But if you want this team to squeak into a 7th or 8th seed, only to get their asses handed to them for 4-5 games, then I must say you don't have a clue as to the kind of value an 8-9 pick in this draft would represent to this team.

After watching our meltdown in the 4th quarter against the kings, I see nothing to indicate that we aren't still a bad road team, and likely nothing more than an easy 1st round exit.

Do you not just have fun with watching exciting games and wins? Does every single game have to be a cog in the giant eternal master plan that is the Utah Jazz?
