Jazz not getting into the first round

The fact that he said anything more than, "no comment" means he was flustered and DEFINITELY hiding something, no?

I'm fine with KOC not bending over to try and get into the first round.

However, I'm not at all fine with Utah going into next season with the same basic roster, only to end up with the same basic result. At this point, though, I don't see any other outcome. I expect at least half this board to be backpedaling by mid-season.

It's been supremely painful on here the past few days. I'll apologize for my contributions to that fact.

Well, this year's Finals is a pageant of superstars---Lebron, Durant, Wade, Westbrook, ...even Harden and Bosh are barely involved. It kinda makes me ask (if I'm a GM), do I have two players who can score 35 points, along with tenacious defense, strong rebounding and a solid bench ?? Are there more than one or two players in this draft that can have that kind of impact ?

If I'm KOC, I'm looking for a Damian Lillard-type PG and a phenomenal wing scorer. If GSW didn't kamikaze, we could have gotten Lillard, but where is this superstar wing going to come from? And how would the 13th or 14th pick in this year's draft have really changed our direction?

We just need more funny cat gifs in this forum.

Just because they're doing it that way, doesn't mean it's the only way that it can be done.

If Utah ever hopes to contend for a title again, I don't think it will be with the 2 superstar model. I don't think anybody on Utah's current roster has the ceiling of a "superstar". Utah's best chance is to emulate the Rip Hamilton-era Pistons. Grit, concerted effort, and a deep, strong roster of guys who can play their roles.

Sure, it's the harder way to go about it, but what superstar(s) can the Jazz honestly lure to SLC?

For the Jazz to get to the next level, they need someone to step up as a go-to player. Every year there's someone like Durant, Dirk, Wade, Kobe, Pierce, etc. who hits big shots and leads his team. It's not clear if the Jazz have this caliber of player. ...And trading Millsap for a #15 pick could do more damage than good.

I'm pretty sure the Jazz are hoping that BOTH Favors and Kanter become 20/12 types that play well together. That seems to be the concept they're building. Maybe they're not superstars, but they both need to be stars.

This. Repped. In terms of building a contender, there's no one way to skin a cat. Teams have won titles with 0 superstars, 1 superstar, and 2 superstars (3 doesn't seem to be working...depth and a supporting cast are a must. Sorry Miami).

Look at the Spurs. They ran into a buzzsaw in OKC, but were knocking on the door this season with one superstar (Parker). How'd they do it? With a 10-deep roster and incredible synergy throughout the organization, on and off the court.

I understand this point of view, and a lot of teams have placed hope in this approach after the Pistons of '04. But you need to keep in mind, that one example of a team like the '04 Pistons isn't a statistically meaningful sample. If Malone didn't get injured in that Finals series, the Lakers would have been favored to win. That Lakers team didn't have much depth that year. They were relying on aging vets like Malone and Payton, and that core had already won 3 championships--it was really the end of that dynasty. The Lakers also barely got by the Spurs on account of Fisher's fade-away jumper with 0.4 seconds left on the clock. Otherwise, the Spurs probably would have won that year. In other words, the Pistons were a good team, but they also came upon some pretty favorable circumstances to win in '04. Other teams can't really plan around "getting lucky" like that. The Pistons lost to the Spurs the very next year in a series that wasn't all that close, then lost to Miami the when Wade came of age.

The mid-90s Jazz were very very close to a championship team. They really were. They were probably just one player away, but make no mistake that Malone and Stockton were superstars. If David Benoit didn't clank jumper after jumper in '95, I think the Jazz would have won it that year. They would have beaten Phoenix, San Antonio and Orlando just like Houston did.

Take the Jazz as they are currently constituted, let Favors and Kanter mature towards their potential, and see if there's a way to bring in or develop a go-to shooter. That would be a team that can contend, and a team that's stronger on the interior than either the Thunder or the Heat are this year.

Here is some writer dudes take:

Lang Greene ‏@LangGreene
With Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap, both highly coveted around the L, entering final season of their deals thought Utah would be bullish

I wonder if the league, excuse me the L knows KOC would like to move AL or Sap so the market is bearish.

Lesbians?

Of course they are asking for a lot we stll have 2 weeks to go. The closer we get to the draft gms will come down on the asking price. I think al for a bad contract and a lotto pic will get it done.

KOC doing his usual smoke screen. He knows there are few available big men equal to Jefferson and Millsap, and willing to bet the more inexperienced GMs will blink before he does.

Threads like these tell me it's going to be a looooong off season.

nah, we have summer league to look forward to at least with Kanter & Burks tearing it up.

Hopefully they show some improvements after P3 as well.

AND may be Favors in the Olympics if we're lucky (Chandler, Howard, Bosh, etc, etc being injured).

Favors being in the Olympics would be great for him. He probably wouldn't get many minutes, but he'd have a chance to learn from the best.
