Jazz - Nuggets: Round 1

I know Rudy is a good player. I know his contributions are valuable. I'm just pointing out that he didnt do anything to take over at any point today.

Would we have been just as good with Jarret Allen and Favors at center taking turns at Jokic but a big upgrade on the wing to support Donovan? I think so.

For what he provided today, I wouldn't pay him max much less supermax. Rudy's play will be interesting to track this series. Best offensive center vs best defensive center. Jokic won round 1.

Round 1? Jokic is almost averaging a triple double against Rudy with like 27 ppg. Round 1 goes to the entire year for Jokic

So the idea is for helping Mitchell is an upgrade on the wing, but Rudy doesn't needs help on the wings ?

Maybe what we need is Rudy making three copies of himself on the floor, so he can at the same time follow the stretch big on the 3pt line, play help defense on the midrange after our defender dies on a screen and crash the boards at the rim.

If we're able to teach this to Rudy, Mitchell might not even need help on the wing, as we might be able to teach him to copy himself three times so he can spot up for threes and make backdoor cuts for layups/dunks at the same time he's creating stuff with the ball at his hands, then we might even save the money on the upgrade at the wing.

Feeling bad for the mavs. They are being robbed already on game 1. If we advance, we will need to be ready to get the same ******** call..

He's exactly the type of player championship teams need. He stays within himself. He's generally played up in the playoffs and not down. He got a really tough whistle tonight and just missed his shots. Next game he will make them. He does all the dirty work.

Please don't put slander on Royce's name... ain't his fault Bogey ain't here and Mike is with his fam.

Thoae guys are lockdown defenders. He’s not a lockdown defender. Or a great 3 point shooter. He’s a slightly average above role player to whom we chose to pay 9M knowing full well Gobert and Mitchell contracts were coming up soon enough.

I agree 100%. Royce is an undersized 2 that is an above average defender and streaky 3 point shooter. 9M when the cap will likely take a dip here over the next few years (no chance the next CBA increases cap with these tv ratings the way they are).

Dumb move. But this is the jazz we're talking about. It's par for the course...

IDK. Maybe if Bogey and Mike we’re here I’d feel differently. But we need guys who can play both ends of the court and he is meh on offense. I’d rather get a guy who’s above average on offense and an athlete who can be coached up and will bust his *** to improve on d.

Definitely not an undersized 2. How many shooting guards weigh 225 lbs in the nba. Maybe 5? He is bigger than most shooting guards.

You are way underselling him. He’s worth every penny and he would have gotten MLE from someone.

Last year, we were upset because we didn't have enough offense around Rudy so we traded out Rubio for Conley and Favors/Crowder for Bogey.

This year, the argument is that we don't have enough defense around Rudy.

So which one is it? Do we need Mitchell and a bunch of Kawhi Leonards to make it work? We know that ain't happening.

My argument is hinging all our hopes to an offensively limited/great defensive center in a mostly centerless league is unwise. The best offensive center in the league outplayed our best defensive weapon at his own position.

Mitchell is the future. Build around him. Quit doing stupid Conley deals that take the ball out of his hands. Dont overpay Rudy. It would be the death of the early Mitchell era.

Have you seen Jokic play against other teams? He destroys teams with his passing because he constantly requires double teams. Allen and Favors would need 4 other plus defender who know how to rotate and close out if they had a chance to win. Jazz have one plus defender besides Rudy.

I just wish Rudy did not have to play drop defense, worry about rebounds and could focus on his assignment but our guards are sieves.

Donovan needs to play PG and have the ball on his hands.
Conley will never fit with DM both in offense and especially in defense as they are too undersized.
IMO Mike should be our bench PG, instead of Mudiay, so he would replece Don when he need a break; and maybe they could play together in the final minutes.
But I'm very doubtful about that, really don't know if it could work.
Damn...the more games we play the more I wish the Conley deal was merely a dream.

The good news is that we have definitely found the superstar guard that we have always wanted. The kind that should get superstar treatment from the refs in the future, as well. The worrisome news is that there truly is a lack of offensive help. I have no happy with Clarkson being so trigger-happy since there are really no other options when he is out there. I love Conley the person. However, it is clear that Mitchell needs to be the PG with the ball in his hands at most times, making things happen. I also love Bogey as an offensive option. I think that with Mitchell as the #1 option, Bogey as the 2a option, we only need someone to be that 2b option. It may have to come as a diamond in the rough in the draft. Can we trade with the Nuggets again? That seems to always be a good idea.

Jokic is an elite player who can take over games. Rudy isn't that type of player. That's kind of the point I'm making.

And the argument still stands - last year, not enough offense around Rudy was the reason everybody gave why we lost. This year, we don't have enough defense around Rudy. At some point, we need to say - what do we need around Donovan? Rudy simply cannot take over playoff games and series. Affect them? Absolutely.

I like Gobert and want him to be here. However, I don't want him here if he's costing too much. The 2018 playoffs should have been the sign that Mitchell is our guy. Instead, we kind of floundered around for 18-19 then put more ball handlers in his way for 19-20. Give Donovan the franchise.

Beal. We need to acquire Bradley Beal.

I don't know if Bradley Beal is what we need. Remember, we want the ball in Donovan's hands. Beal is ball dominant. Yes, he can fill it up, but I think we need more of a defender and 2nd option.

I think we need Jaylen Brown. I think he's the absolute perfect guy next to Donovan, and they are friends. Brown could be Pippen to Don's MJ.
