Jazz Officially Matched Hayward According to Woj

I have little doubt in my mind that this was a Miller family signing.

He looks like a Mormon and is white. They've tried Desperately to make him the face of the franchise despite Burks being the superior player overall.

This was a Miller family signing more than anything.

I'm starting to think that the majority of bad deals revolve around ownership butting in and forcing the hands of their respective GM's. I have a hard time thinking that smart high BBIQ people can consistently make awful decision otherwise. Clearly Lindsey didn't think Hayward was worth this contract otherwise he would have signed him for less a lot longer ago.

This. It has been proven time and time again that guys are given unearned hype and unfair additional chances based on things like contracts and draft order. If this goes bad Lindsey will likely put pressure on Snyder to play Hayward to try and justify his contract. Even if Hood and Burks comes in right away and completely out play Hayward I see no way the Jazz as an franchise can just play Gordon back up mins.

This IMO is Lindsey's first huge compound mistake.
This is how i feel as well.

Hayward is our to guy for at least through next season whether he flourishes in that role or falls on his face

And Utah is a young up and coming team with 2-3 years before they might be contenders. The have the time and financial means to absorb this contract. Not ideal but not a game ender.

Utah should be in the business of collecting talent and remaining flexible. In search of finding a core. Hayward is hardly a core piece. He's a nice role player (who can't shoot). Bosh is.

So Bosh was good and actually played like a guy 6'11" 5-6 years ago. All LeBron needed him to do was rebound and defend like a big man and he couldn't do it. Don't count on a 31 year old Bosh returning to his 25 year old form.

Bosh game isn't based on athleticism like a lot of bigs. His game has always been finesse and based mostly on skill. Bosh isn't a great rebounder and was never all world defensively so he wasn't allowed to play to his biggest strength so of course he's going to look less valuable in that situation. However Bosh give up his style of play and played out of position and never complained or sulked.

When Bosh was the man he was dragging Toronto to the playoffs almost single handedly. When Hayward was the man Utah was the worst team in the Western conference. You tell me who most likely deserves a max deal?

MJ screwed us again. Gordon Overpaid is now making almost twice more than what he is worth. what a glorious day.

This debate is over now that the Hayward fan club is trying to drag Bosh down in order to build Hayward up.

As exciting as the draft was free agency has been equally depressing. Andrei Hayward just screwed us over big time. Sadly, we'll never be able to unload his albatross contract. And I agree, Snyder will now have to design his offense around a role Ayer and play him ahead of superior players (Hood and Burks) in order to justify the contract.

It's getting annoying how the Hayward fan club keeps compounding this Hayward debacle. Even last year they kept trying to justify him over George. Now you see them trying to justify this.

I don't understand it too. I'm a fan of the Utah Jazz. Not of any particular player. I just don't understand why he's so popular. Other than race, he looks Mormon, etc. burks is clearly the better player. But he's black and has tats.

Sad

lol. I'm the only one that has mentioned Bosh and even that was just a passing comment about a thought I had while watching Sportscenter. Also, it's funny you think I'm part of the Hayward fan club. I've been down on matching that ridiculous contract from day one and been very vocal about it on this site.

Lol. No. Hayward is an amazing piece to place around your star. Not a fan of the deal but it's not as deadly as portrayed.

As for collecting talent. Guess Kanter, Favors, Hayward, Burks, Burke, Gobert, Hood and Exum don't count as talent. Good to know.

I didn't say they weren't talent.

But giving Hayward the max doesn't help us to collect talent. If anything, it's going to cost us Burks or Kanter.

May cost us. We don't even know how much they will continue to develop.

The jazz have overspent on:

Ostertag
AK47
Okur (extension)
Hayward

What do physical characteristic do all of these players have in common?

Why look for the answer to the question to anything other than the easiest and most simple answer? The Jazz management, have analyzed the situation, and have come to the conclusion that in terms of achieving their long-term goals, that it simply does not matter what Gordon is paid.

The vast majority of this board is completely fixated on the notion that Gordon's achievements to date have to match up with whatever salary he is paid. Jazz management is unconcerned that this has to be the case. I suspect the collective here is seeing several boogeymen in the closet that either don't exist or that their existence is greatly exaggerated.
What are those goals?

Out of curiosity, Pearl, how many Jazz games have you watched in the last 3 or 4 years? Do you see this team with a realistic shot at the playoffs in the next 2? In contention in the next 4? 5?

What this contract is driving home for me is that building a contender is difficult, especially for a team in an undesirable market. The Jazz were incredibly fortunate to do as well as they did between 2003 and 2010, before jettisoning Boozer, Matthews, Korver, Brewer (and Memo to injury). Hayward may help this team win a few additional games. He may be worth more in trade than the extra cap space and improved draft pick the Jazz could have had instead. With that said, it's hard to see how the Jazz's roster talent and additional assets can be turned into a watchable 50+ win team in the next few years, especially if this is the cost of holding onto average-ish starters. Further, this represents another example of DL/management/ownership failing to maximize the value of their assets: Hayward's agent outsmarted the Jazz; Jefferson, Millsap, Carroll, Mo (and Foye, Marvin, RJ) walked for nothing after a non-playoff year. This team is looking more and more like the recent T-Wolves and Kings every day.

Guys, the thriller has clearly shown his basketball knowledge. White people will never be good at basketball and should not get paid. Ever. Just get over it already. If there is anything I learned from the thriller it is that the only good white basketball player is a dead white basketball player.

Glad you could teach us the ways of racism today, Mr thriller.

Stellar defense.

I'm more just pissed that this team will never be GREAT.. and we are more of less stuck with it. (I'm being a bit dramatic, I know.. but it's kind of fun.)

The way I look at it:
Capspace is only valuable towards winning when you really wanna use it.

just going to make a prediction. Hayward will not live up to a 4 year 63 million contract. When he struggles people will boo him. They shouldn't, but they will.

That is a bold move, you crazy man, you.

Man, Helen, you are really hard to stomach sometimes.

They all have arms.

Thank you b_line for saving me the effort.
