Jazz Offseason Plan

Per BR, Ingles, Bogey, Royce and No. 30 all being shopped.

Andy Larsen retweeted this, so perhaps some truth here.

This makes me wonder. Was it opinions on Conley that ultimately did Dennis in? I don’t think Dennis thought we’d ever try to bring Conley back (which would kinda explain not crunching the numbers for luxury tax purposes).

Perhaps Dennis wanted to let Conley walk and not trade someone else. Now seems the idea is to trade some salary so we can pay Mike without dipping as far into the tax.

I never thought Smith would actually send the NBA a $60 million dollar tax check.

This article makes it sound like Ingles is more likely than Bogey or Royce to be traded, doesn't even mention Clarkson as being available.

Some of these NBA players might get traded while they are playing in Olympics
That would be a shock for them

You're right. I got my stats backwards.

We have won a better percentage of playoff games when he sits than when he plays.

$25 million for Conley just because we have no other choice is extremely unfortunate. Mike Conley could go down as one of the most overpaid players of all time.

If he got 2 years and $25 per year, he would creep up into the top 15 players of all time in terms of contracts over the course of their career! Crazy

Actually that's not true either. We're 6-5 with him and 3-4 without him.

Ntilikina is a lock down perimeter defender. Sure his offense is bad, but he's been in NY for his 4 pro years where the only thing consistent has been inconsistency.

I think Rudy and Don could mold him like they have Royce. Royce could barely dribble starting out.
I am a huge Frank fan and think he should be brought in next year and I would be will to give him a 2 year contract with a team option 3rd year

Mantooth said it a few pages ago but it bears repeating: The second the Jazz acquire Frank, they now have 2 players on the roster that the absolutely cannot play together in Frank and Rudy.

When 2/5th’s of your lineup don’t need to be guarded outside of 8 feet, you’re not gonna be able to run any semblance of an effective offense. It would be a **** show of epic proportions.

This team certainly needs upgrades with their perimeter D but that doesn’t mean that you go and grab the best perimeter defender available if he has a fatal flaw like Frank does. It would be a massive over correction on the Jazz’s part and there’s only 1 of 2 ways a Frank acquisition goes: 1- He gets consistent minutes, our Defense improves, and we watch the Jazz lose in the 1st or 2nd round as they fail to generate points, or 2- Frank’s perimeter defensive talents are completely useless to us as Quin simply cannot put him on the floor due to his offensive ineptitude.

$25 million for Mike? If that's his market, find a way to sign and trade him. The guy has missed more playoff games than he has made.

We really going to spend $25 on Mike, $36 on Rudy, $10 on Favors and $20 on Bojan?

No wonder Don might want out. Our FO is a bunch of morons.

So are we trading with ourselves. It says Utah and the Jazz wings. Who are we looking at as a trade partner.

I meant in the elimination series.... damn I'm off today explaining myself.

Conley's only postseason bragging rights is winning 4 games as the 8 seed against his former team. Most pathetic part - we lost game 1 at home when he got to lead us with Don out.

In our two elimination series , he played in 6 (2-4) and didn't play in 7 (3-4).

I would take a late first to churn Ingles and his salary.

That hurts to type, but we need youth and athleticism.

Interesting thought, though it kind of goes against the standard speculation around here (that DL pushed Conley onto Quin; that DL was the one who prioritized small guards who could shoot over athletic wings). I'm not inclined to run with this too much, though many of the theories that put DL or Quin or JZ into easy-to-label boxes don't make a whole lot of sense to me.

There is no way I would pay Mike 25 million a year considering his injury history. I do not want to trade Ingles, O'neal or Bogie. I just think Ingles and O'neal should come off the bench. Then you find stud athletic wing who can defend and try to convince mike to come back at say 15-16 million. Jazz need to add talent and not just trade it away. The time to win is now. It is always now unless your team sucks so bad you have to do a full rebuild. No one knows what the future holds and if you are not trying to get better now then you will always be a 1st or 2nd round loser. Conley, DM, new wing, Bogie and Rudy. Second team Ingles, JC, O'neal, PF to be determined and Doka.

I would expect Mike to be $20-25 million at this point on a 2 or 3 year deal (hopefully that 3rd year is a team option) Ideally I’d do 2 year $25 million with a team option on the second year.

We are over the cap whether Mike comes back or not. The most we can spend in free agency is the taxpayer MLE, which is around $6 million. Unfortunately we can't afford a stud wing that's athletic and can defend.

I’m also attracted to visions of impossible futures

Maybe I should have left out the word stud and just long and athletic. Just a guy who can defend the perimeter.

No paywall. The link lists Ingles, Bogey, and Royce as being available.

I would 100% trade Bogey. I have reservations about trading either Royce or Ingles.

The report is from a credible NBA insider with a verified Twitter account, and Andy Larsen retweeted it, for whatever that is worth.
