Jazz Offseason Plan

Cavs would be stupid to move Nance so truthfully no. Marvin Bagley... that's a good target.

Anyway, if I was JZ I would do a sign and trade for Lauri and give up JC. Then I would look to see what is out there for a six man.

Jazz feel like they've caught lightning in a bottle with Clarkson. I don't see them moving him.

One thing the Jazz could do is bring in a big athletic wing to play the 3 and treat Bogdanovic as a 4. It may just be semantics, but it's possible Bogey can guard 4s better than 3s. So Bogey becomes this Danilo Gallinari-like stretch-4 that you don't expect too much out of defensively, and the Jazz instead bring in a more perimeter-oriented wing defender to guard the Paul Georges and Jamal Murrays. So now you're looking for someone more like Lu Dort or Mathisse Thybulle instead of Christian Wood.

I'm guessing the Jazz were trying to move up in the draft to get Chris Duarte or Trey Murphy for this reason. It doesn't look like Miye Oni is going to cut it.

That would be easier to do. And during the season trade if it isn't working.

Anyway my rationale for trading JC is that he is overall inefficient. When he is hot the team is fantastic when he is not it falls apart. Markannen is efficient. I think we would get consistent results. I would backfill JC with Alec Burks.

But yeah it not popular. But I would rather make the offense even more of a juggernaut.

The Jazz need to ask themselves this offseason if Jarrell Brantley can be anything like Lu Dort. This is his chance. I'm very curious to see what Brantley can do in Summer League. If he can't do it, then maybe it's time to move on from him.

I just wonder if when the Clippers were going on a 20-0 run on us, what it would be like to try Brantley on Paul George for a few possessions. Maybe it would have been a disaster, but it would be good to know. This is why I thought the Jazz should have given Brantley more minutes during the regular season. Georges Niang became unplayable in that Clippers series. Brantley at least has the physical tools to play that Lu Dort / PJ Tucker role defensively. Not sure if he has the skill level.

It's time to fish or cut bait with him.

You bring up a really good point: we should think about scenarios and consider what they’d do.

Say the other team is going on a run like you mentioned, in the middle of a quarter when the starters are sitting. What are they going to do? Probably sub Rudy and Royce back in.

So then they’ll be burned out by the fourth, with low odds of the run actually being stopped. That really needs to be fixed.

I'm not sure why people keep getting stuck on scoring more. Scoring was not the problem. Perimeter D was badly exposed as our achilles heel and directly knocked is out of the playoffs.

We need a long tough-nosed wing defender with enough of a shot to keep teams honest. Almost literally 1 guy like this in these playoffs and we advance. We had no one even close.

I would love to add Nance. I don't see any way we can pull that off but he would be great for this.

Celtics just got Josh Richardson for a trade exception. Not sure if Dallas gets anything back… I know the Jazz are probably not going to rush out and spend $ at the moment, but that was a guy I liked for us.

Dallas now has $34 million in cap room. Going after Lowry, but could they go after Conley too?

So Cleveland is shopping Nance and Osman for expirings. For the next two seasons, Nance and Osman make the same as Bojan.

What do yall think about:

Bulls get Bojan
Cavs get Satoransky and Aminu
Jazz get Nance, Osman and 2nd rounders

We could also do it like:

Bulls get Bojan and Osman
Cavs get Satoransky and Aminu
Jazz get Nance and 2nd rounders

I've always liked Osman. Plays hard, does a little of everything.

Osman mostly does a lot of one thing…. Mostly he just sucks *** at basketball. It’s a no for me dog.

Right now we are 15M under the luxury tax with 11 players. Conley is reported to sign a 3/60M deal.

Players re-signing with their current team can get a 8% increase annually.

Conley could start out at 18.5M then go to 20M then 21.5M to end his contract.

With Conley we’d be only 3.5M over the luxury tax with 12 total players.

The cap situation has suddenly looked A LOT better with just a few short passing days.

I’m really holding out hope for a Nance-Bogey deal. I think Niang gives us a lot of what Bogey does and what he doesn’t is already duplicated by several others on the team.

Bogey is luxury we can’t afford on this team. Nance would give us huge value as a 4/5 and provide things this team desperately needs.

I like nance… he’s not better than Bogey though and it’s not close. He’s ideal to helping us unlock some small ball and large ball lineups… we need Bogey or another wing though. Need to try and do a deal with something other than Bogey or get more back.

I think Niang’s biggest value to the Jazz right now is if the Jazz can move him in a S&T for an amount larger than the taxpayer MLE, which might give them an edge on the Batum/Gay/OPJ crop vs other contenders.
With Mikes number coming in lower this is a good idea.

Royce or Joe makes the most sense for Nance. Royce has been invaluable because of his defense and rebounding but if we can get a legit PF to do some of those things then the Jazz might be okay.

I don’t know how I feel about losing either of them, but in this case, I think I could stomach swapping Royce for Nance. That is certainly the case if you can get a Batum/Gay/OPj.

Joe for Nance saves us an additional 2.7M. Cleveland does it because he’s has an expiring contract.
