Jazz Offseason Plan

Jazz need to get younger, longer, more athletic while not losing too much of it's offense. If Philly loses tonight my first call would be them about a deal packaged around Bojan, Clarkson, Favors for Tobias Harris & Mattise Thybulle. Philly gets more shooting surround the inept shooting ability of Simmons while also breaking down Tobias' $35m a year for the next 3 season into more manageable contracts. Jazz lose some of it's offense but improves its defense. While it hurts to lose someone like Clarkson off the bench now could be the best time to potentially cash out on him. Thybulle is a big reason I do this trade. He improves your defense immensely and I fully believe with the right coaching and in the right system he could become a 10-15 ppg player. He's already an all nba defensive player while only average 20 mpg.
Interesting trade. Seems pretty fair and helpful for both teams

If we run it back with the same squad, and have basically no money, I want Rudy Gay or Aminu. Those are probably the most realistic possibilities given our cap number.

Something like this will make it interesting. The other thing that will have an impact is new coaches coming in and deciding players on the roster aren't prospects and waiving them or giving them away for pennies on the dollar. The Jazz could have an opportunity to upgrade the dregs of the roster by looking to see who shows up as the victim of the killing fields. There are examples of guys like this that got cut and headed overseas and had solid years. These players would be upgrades over the minivan, Oni and Matty Ice.

Tobias Harris has been the #1 guy I've wanted for a long, long time. He would solve so many problems. Losing Clarkson kills me but it might be worth it, especially with Thybulle. I do worry that that's losing too much offense - there really aren't any other scorers left after the trade, the rest of the rotation would be Royce and O'Neale to go with Rudy and Don. Conley, if he comes back.

I don't think Philly would do it but I'd make that call to gauge interest.

Draft a badass like JT Thor.
Start Mitchell at the PG.
Start Royce at the SG.
Keep Bogey at the SF.
Bring Conley off the bench if he's still on the team, or give him his symbolic start and stagger him with Mitchell.
Now we're big, physical and badass.

The Jazz need to add one guy. That's it, just one guy -- a long athletic, two-way wing.

Defensively, the Jazz don't remember what it's like to have a legit help defender and not just Rudy Gobert all on his own.

Offensively, the Jazz don't remember what it's like to have a guy who can drive and finish at the rim without using a screen, in addition to knocking down open shots.

One guy like a Jerami Grant would check both those boxes.
The Jazz's biggest defensive need isnt a helpside defender like Grant (who to be clear, is that kind of player more in theory than actual practice).

They need help at the point of attack and disruption.

I'd target some kind of Marcus Smart/Jordan Clarkson swap over these ludicrous Grant ideas.

Make the call Utah.

Bring in a big wing at the 4 and move Royce to the 2-guard. This would make the Jazz bigger, tougher and better defensively.

I get the appeal of a Marcus Smart. But if he's an offensive liability, we're back where we started. Plus, we're still small if we play a team with two bigs.

Not sure I like Donovan as PG
Too much pressure on him to do everything
He has looked fantastic as point guard.
And the jazz record is amazing with him at point guard too.

Here's my super duper realistic offseason for the Jazz. The Jazz went full send in going all out on 3 point shooting now it's time to get crazy again because you know what in a small market stars aren't flocking to you in free agency so you got to innovate.

1st. Conley S&T + filler for Simmons if his value seems as low as fans are making it out to be then jump on it. Yes he can't shoot to save his life but guess what we already have someone like that so we can make it work. Ben is elite in other aspects of the game. Play him as a point center.

2nd. Now for other guy that can't shoot on our team. You can't have Ben and Rudy on the floor together because neither of them can shoot and you're not paying someone $30m+ to come off the bench so now you have to move Rudy. My go to in this scenario would be a deal around Rudy for Jaylen Brown

Starting 5 consisting of Don, Royce, Jaylen, Bojan & Simmons with Ben being your ball facilitator on offense would be a very good team IMO.

I had a dream last night that Hayward was back on the Jazz lol. Dammit, he would have been perfect...

Jaylen Brown was like the only realistic player I would have traded Rudy for. But that was a year or two ago and I think Brown is too good now where that ship has sailed.
