Thing I noticed from the box score is that Croatia's backup center played as good a game as anyone on the floor (scored 20). Was any of that due to Gobert? Who was guarding Tomic more throughout the game -- Mahinmi or Gobert? Tomic had a pretty forgettable game (box score wise).
Gobert and Mahinmi usually did't play together. Whoever was on the court was guarding the opposing center, whoever that happened to be at that particular time. Gobert didn't start the game, while Tomic did, so if I had to guess Mahinmi and Pietrus were guarding him more. Gobert gave up several and-1s vs Zoric(the second Croatia center) and France's coach was not happy with him, he was screaming at him during some of the time outs. He was over-committing on some double teams and traps and was slow defending some of the pick and rolls, and was left out of position to defend his man after the roll. In the last quarter though everything seemed to click for Gobert, he seemed more focused and was defending the p'n'r much better, even his offensive game picked up and I think he was one of the key players to France's victory in the last quarter.
