Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

I’ll go on record saying that I think there is basically a 0% chance Allen busts. His mentality, skills + the fit and culture he’s coming into. How is he not at least reasonably productive?

No saying star, or even starter. But he’ll stick around in the league and very possibly be one of those fan favorite hound dog types off the bench.

His ceiling is limited, so not sure what the upside scenario is. But his floor is still a decent bench player.

If I end up wrong then I’d really have to re-evaluate how I view this league.

Just signed Kelan Martin from Butler!!!

Love it baby! 6'7", 230 and jacked with a 7'3" wingspan. 21.2 points, 6.3 rebounds. He made 56 3's over the final 15 games. 82% from the line. His knock is on d but he def looks to have the body and athleticism to be a good defender.

I’m super intrigued. Dude was a flat out baller at Butler. I loved watching him play. Hopefully he can get a 2-way contract.

I kind of disagree that Allen doesn’t have a high ceiling. Just gonna throw that out there.

People call him safe because he’s a 4 year player at a big program...I think the NBA game will be good to him.

And some players are late bloomers. Hayward Improved for a long time. Jingles seemed to bloom pretty late.

Grayson's role is the 4th or 5th guard. He is going to go against backup guards and play just 10 to 15 minutes a game, letting Donovan and Rubio rest. He can do it and he will not bust, because it is not that demanding and he has the skill set to do it.

Prediction:

Grayson will break DMs record for 3s made by a rookie.

15/4/4 for the year on 54/41/85 shooting splits.

Will finish top 5 in rookie of the year votes.
If he gets the green light to shoot 6 threes a game and hits 41% (to beat DM's record), while playing in 82 games, this draft will be an insane success..

Completely agree. And that's why I hated the pick so much and still do. Jazz drafted a bench player. He has little ceiling. There were quite a few players, IMO (and in the opinion of a lot of draft pundits), that have so much more potential. This was the rare draft where you could pick up potential starting quality players all the way down into the 40's. Lindsey could have traded down, or made a trade to get an additional pick and added some great young talent. Roster spots? Really no need to bring back Stockton, Neto, Udoh, Jerebko and Thabo. Deduct any combination of those players to restock the cupboard. If nothing else, having highly-regarded prospects can lead to great trades. Look at Boston adding Irving, OKC getting George, etc.
