Jazz to actively pursue Paul Millsap this offseason, per Spencer Checketts

A rumors plausibility doesn't prove validity

How does us being interested in Millsap make virtually no sense?

It makes a TON of sense:

1. We want more shooting, especially from a big.
2. Millsap has played here and liked it and fans like him
3. Our current coach has a very good relationship with him
4. We employ his brother on our basketball team (a move some theorized was a strategic move for Paul)
5. We have enough minutes for him (96 total front-court minutes among 3 players = 32 minutes)

The only way it doesn't make sense is when you factor in ego and money. I don't know Millsap so I can't comment on the importance he places on being a starter and getting a lot more mone.

Minutes, role, money and potential to contend are consistently the most important things that players take into account when choosing teams. The sentimental stuff(fans liking him, him liking Utah, having good relationship with Quin, his brother being here) is overrated, especially when he can say very similar things about his situation in Atlanta for example...

He didn't say the jazz wanting millsap to come off the bench for a decent price didn't make sense.... I think almost every team would be looking into that

Given that, I'm not really sure how you can criticize someone for being skeptical of the latest Checketts rumor, especially when it makes virtually no sense.

Check's rumor = Jazz actively pursuing Millsap.

KD said rumor made virtually no sense.

And it also makes sense for him to look at going back to ATL.

Did I say he was going to Utah indefinitely? Just said the rumor makes sense.

Exum, Burke, Cotton
Burks, Hood, Millsap
Millsap, Johnson, Ingles
Favors, Vonleh, Booker
Gobert, Biyambo, Vonleh

Better team then what we had at the end of the season. Get over Hayward you turkeys.
Better Team? Not even close. That team puts us back in rebuild mode. Hell Vonleh would not play over Booker and Biyambo would not play over him either. We'd have the same team without a real SF in the starting lineup. Our defense would take a huge hit as Millsap can't guard most SF's. Our offense takes a huge hit because we now have nobody in the starting lineup that can create a shot for other's and only one that can create a shot for himself. This team with your changes wins 30-35 games.

Again I ask, ever see an all-star turn down more money and a guaranteed starting role on a 60 win team to come off the bench for another team?

The post I quoted to make that post.

Actually it didn't. It was about Spencer Checketts. And as for your "reasons", they're all about Millsap saying the right things to the media, without any regard to objective reasons like fit, money, and minutes. You should stick to talking about how a player's hair makes him look fat, you ****ing nitwit.

Word

But still

Kewl. With the work DL likes to put in and his "crossing the T's and dotting the i's" can you honestly say he won't inquire about Millsap and try to persuade him, or at least see where his head is at on the matter?

This would be great if Millsap was willing to be our 6th man, sign a reasonable contract such as his last one (both of which seem highly unlikely), & we shifted our focus to the winning in the next 2-3 years by replacing Burke with a vet PG & acquiring a backup C. I would be shocked if there is any truth behind this though, & expect that this is either: a) an organization doing a former player a solid by helping increase his FA stock, or b) an agent using his client's history with his former team in order to increase his FA stock. My guess is it's the agent as our FO doesn't leak information & it wouldn't benefit them & could potentially upset Favors, who is clearly our PF of the present & the future, regardless of whether we sign Millsap or not.

If you ignore the most important things players usually consider, it makes sense. If you don't ignore it - it doesn't. It only makes sense if he's willing to give us a discount salary wise AND is willing to play a smaller role AND is willing to take a step back from a team that just won 60 games and made conference finals to a team that's still rebuilding.

Millsap averaged a whopping 33 mpg. He can easily still average that on this team.

Favors averaged 31 mpg post-all star break.

Gobert averaged 34 post all-star break.

Millsap averaged 33 mpg.

That is all still very doable with all 3 on our team.

Damn just looked at Atlanta's books.....they are around 40 million next year. We would have to probably max him to make Atlanta pause.

Would you not agree that Utah has a better future than the Hawks?

I would argue, especially if Sap comes over, we will have a much better team than the Hawks.

And as I said earlier, his minutes can be the same on this team and not have it really disrupt any team balance. His role would be similar. It's not like he was the clear cut #1 option on the Hawks (and Im sure he is very self-aware that him being a #1 option isnt going to win much in the PO).

Easily, there is 96 minutes to go around. Some of you guys amaze me, lol if we had a top-3 pick and Russell wasn't available what would we do? We can't draft Towns or Okafor we already have Favors and Gobert lmao. Collect the best talent possible and worry about it later.

UFA. He is free to chose wherever.

Cy spitting some truth.

lol what is this?

Towns & Okafor aren't 30 year olds turning down the opportunity to be starting all-stars on a 60 win team, and they would be on rookie contracts. This isn't even remotely comparable.
