I just finished watching the Jazz game online...try fast forwarding a bit, the first several minutes are just some graphic with no sound or anything.

With all due respect, "being a player" has to do with a lot more than just scoring. Hayward will get his shots in the Jazz system just like all of our wings do.

No disrespect intended. I though over all he had a good game. I just felt that he was being to passive with the opportunities he was given (which weren't enough imo). Gains was bad when it came to running any kind of offense and would only pass the ball if he got in trouble it seemed. Hayward did a great job of going after the ball, Rebounding and running cuts. Not his fault the PG didn't get him the ball where he could score. The only point I was making is that he had 2-3 really good looks at the basket that he just plain passed up. I just wanted him to be more agressive.

He was definitely a bit tentative...we can agree there. His brain seemed to be moving way faster than his body in the first half which led to a couple of traveling violations and passed up opportunities.

Considering how many here thought Hayward would be a complete failure, his first summer league game was a success. I expected no than what I saw today.

8 pts, 2-2 FG, 4-4 FT
5 rebs, 1 Off. 4 Def.
2 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk, 2 TO

In 25 minutes of play.

I don't care what anyone says. That's a solid game.

I was completely sold on the Hayward pick on draft night. That wouldn't have changed if he had a horrendous summer league, and my expectations won't be raised if he has some big number games the rest of the way. It is fun to actually see him in action, but no stock should be put into anything he does during summer league. He's a much better athlete than detractors give him credit for, and his versatile skill set speaks for itself. He will be a good player off the bench for us this season, and eventually a big piece to the puzzle...

While numbers in summer league games are misleading, Augustine is 100000000000x more polished than Koufos on both ends of the court. Anyone with eyes can see this. I have no idea what KOC has planned for the rest of the offseason, but if Boozer is gone and Augustine isn't on our team as a reserve I will be disappointed. Now I'm not clamoring to have him on the team as a rotation player, but he is a great guy to have to use in a game with abnormal foul trouble and/or injuries.

I'm also basing this off having played with James for a couple summers of aau in high school and watching him during his days with the Illini. Also gave the Magic some good minutes a couple years back. Today's great game was not the first time I've seen him in case you were wondering. He belongs in the NBA...

I'm not sure that Augustine is the best cheap big to add to the rotation, but I wonder if adding Augustine would make Deron Williams happy in some small way--not enough for D-Will to stay longer, but if J-Aug did well, it would be a nice gesture.

thanks pretty much what i had to do. Don't know why you have to do that.. weird.

I think gordon hayward wont be a bad player just not a great player. From what i have seen they could use him a little bit on the picks better and I would love to see how he is with the ball in his hand. If the jazz do some kind of great trade to get a good inside player then i would like the pick more. Being it was the 9 pick it might not be bad but he is going to get killed with his size and i am also interested in how he could hold up against the star type players. Have to see more of him in the game but if he could play a little bit of point that could help the jazz out a lot. One thing i did read about him was getting to the line and offensive rebounds. Seen a little bit of that tonight which could also help the jazz. Good to see some basketball though. He didn't have the ball too much in this game to show his offense but i would like to see that.

My views:

I thought Sundiata was good. The game was much MUCH smoother with him in it. He just could not hit a FT. Good defense too. He also passed the ball well.

Hayward was pretty good. Didnt get a lot of touches but when he got them he made the most of them. Some nice assists. One TERRIFIC rebound. HIt his only shot he took. Definitely struggled when Derrick Brown took him to the block. That is going to be an issue. Otherwise was pretty good defensively. I'd like to see him with the ball more.

Othyus was a little out of control. He also was getting blown by pretty frequently by Gerald Henderson. Had one nice drive an dunk.

Kosta was terrible. Could not catch a ball. Did not challenge shots. Didnt rebound well.

Augustin was really good I thought. Hes not going to wow you with anything he does but he rebounds, good position defense, and scored the ball really well. He has played with the Jazz a few times right? This is by far the best he has looked.

I literally do not think that Evans touched the ball once. Poor rebounder too. ZOUBECK!

The only other guy I thought worth noting was Gardner. I thought that he has a really good looking shot and a legit NBA body. He didnt shoot that well, made one three I think, but his form looked really nice and his misses barely rimmed out.

Looks like Augustine is going to play for the Hawks later in another summer league. We better extend our camp invite sooner rather than later.

everything you just said about yata is true... except that he didn't run the offense. he had a couple of really nice passes off penetration or in transition, but he was not a real floor general out there.

That is tough to do in summer league. No one is interested in running the offense. You could tell that everything went a lot smoother with him in the game though. Definitely noticeable.

that's not at all true. they run plays in the summer league. they run a dumbed-down version of the jazz's same offense (same basic sets, fewer options so it's easier to digest in just a week of two-a-days). and everybody is interested in running the O because they know that's the only way they get an invite to fall camp.
