Jazz vs Bucks

Can't believe I'm going to say this, but after seeing the game up close tonight I may have to rethink my opinion of coach Q and his ability to mentor these young players. With a twenty point lead and barley 3 minutes left he makes it a point to embarrass Exum for being late on a rotation on a three by Maker. Makes a real show of waving Hill up off the bench and looks at Dante with palpable disgust as he walks off the court looking like a little league player pulled in the middle of an inning for dropping a fly ball. If this was how Kanter felt here perhaps I owe him an apology. It would have been appropriate to call him aside during a break and explain what he did wrong but this was an obvious attempt to belittle him as I see it. Trade him and give the kid a chance to be something if this is how it's going to be.

Damn, you must've hated Sloan.

Maybe they've done enough of those peaceful learning breaks.

Considering he's been a professional athlete for 2 and a half years listening to the coach, you'd think he would know what to do, especially since it was the exact same play that had been run previously and he played it worse the the play before. You don't do what you're supposed to do as a professional athlete and you sit on the bench. No issue with that at all.

Hmmm... I wonder if Quin is souring on Dante? And is Dante souring on Quin? We don't see all of the behind the scenes but I wonder if Dante is feeling down and Quin has lost patience with him. Then you have a compounding effect. Dante does seem like Quin's whipping boy.

I viewed this play the other way around. Rudy was too lazy to get out on his man. Now Exum should have figured out Rudy wasn't going to come and just switched. On Maker's first three, I thought Dante's challenge was pretty good.

I think pissing post would be more accurate.

And yes, he is a pro, but he is still a kid. There were several other breakdowns tonight but none of the others drew the same response as Exum did.

No, more an innocent remark. The guy who pointed out 22 points in 9 attempts made a better point than weakly calling me a retard. The attitude, the layout, the absence of everyone I (sort of) respected over ten years ago is what makes me not like this site.

I don't think you can expect not to be hassled a little when you point to one of our best players and ask why he gets to be the star. Invoking the R word was obviously in bad form but the way he put it out there, it was obviously tongue in cheek. This is a great forum otherwise you'd be getting the cold shoulder instead of discussion. Maybe try not coming on quite so strong next time and you'll see what I mean.

Something has happened, it's just weird. It's gone from "he's such a great kid" etc to completely whipping boy status. No problem with holding someone accountable, but the double standards with the length of leash between different players is pretty hard to work out. I don't get why he's bothering with playing him at all if this is how he's going to do it. Send him to the Stars and let him play. Or if something has happened and things have soured on him, trade him.

Trade him? lmao he has 0 trade value. No reason to trade him. Let him get a good off-season in and see what he can do next year. The kid sucks right now, that's why he doesnt play. The leash is equal for everyone, it's just everyone else knows how to play NBA basketball.

dunno, i see other guys make similar mistakes and don't get yanked, particularly in such a demonstrative manner. I just think the way Quin is going about it is unneccesary, and i know you're totally a Quin dude between the way the refs call him and how Quin's handling him i feel for the dude.

Do you see the offense with Exum in the game?

He's still getting minutes which is more than I can say for Mack or even Neto on a nightly basis. I think it would be a lot harder to be the guy that filled in for Hill (winning a fair share) and then be relegated to the end of the bench.

so why bother putting him it at all ? I don't get what he's done with Mack either after thinking he was the better option for how long ?

So he can get some minutes. Idk what the problem is with using Exum for spot minutes here and there.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. I am far from a Mack hater, and will even stick up for him when he's getting unfairly trashed, but there have been games when he's had multiple bone head plays over and over, and never gets pulled or ripped on.

Maybe that's changed a bit lately, but Mack has had a ton of leash compared to Exum this year.

Completely different kind of mistakes, and Mack has been pulled entirely from the rotation for repeating the same errors. Mack's mistakes are more just his limitations as a player showing themselves. Exum's are just not knowing how to play and be effective in what the Jazz are trying to do.

Jazz need to stop playing Exum as a SG. He is not a SG and is much worse at that position. He cant guard it as well and he is not a good guy to put in the corner. His strengths are passing the ball and getting into the paint. I wish the coaching staff would let him run the point and run plays through him when the game is over like this one in the last three minutes. It seems like the Jazz are trying to turn Exum into a 3 and D SG which I am not sure he will ever be good at. I think he can and will be good as a PG.

Clearly Exum is told to shoot the ball every time he is open for 3. I am not that worried about his shot yet, I think it will come along. He misses long or short on almost every three. But you cant get mad at him for shooting the open threes. If he didnt he would get benched even faster. Nothing makes Quinn more angry than passing up open threes.

Exum definitely has a shorter leash than anyone on the team. He can struggle this season but he has games where he is playing great and makes a small mistake or what the coaches think was a mistake and he is pulled and never sees the court again. Nobody else gets pulled for one mistake. I am sure Quin has a reason for his short leash but either way it is short.

I am getting worried about Hill. He is not playing that well lately. This calendar year he is shooting 41% from the field and 32% from three and his defense has dropped off lately. I guess he is playing closer to his averages right now.

Jazz dont play til Saturday, dont get your panties in a bunch.

you'd be singing an entirely different tune if someone sprained their ankle during meaningless minutes. It happens. Get Exum some time, etc. Meaningless minutes in January can smd

This. When u take into account how much injury the team has went through, and not to mention Hood going down with injury in this game, why tempt fate. That's all I was thinking as the game was winding down. Fatigue wasn't on my mind at the time. No need for key players to be in the game at that moment. I cringe every time Burks drives, because I just know he's about to hurt himself. Lol
