What's new

Jazz vs Lakers | Friday November 26th @ 7:00pm

and why is it that EVERY time we have something to say about the lousy officiating, that some dork has to come back with "It's not the only reason that the jazz are losing'

DUH! Nobody has said that it's the reason. We just hate seeing the reffing so one-sided.
I think that you're talking to me. Well if the Jazz aren't playing like they deserve to win, then it doesn't matter what the refs do, does it?

Utah's not being aggressive enough to get the calls, and Sloan insists to go with his undersized lineup when it has been proven FOR YEARS to be ineffective against the Lakers. We had hoped that the one to two inches of height that Jefferson brings over Boozer would make a difference, but evidently that's not the case.

I want to see a lineup of DW-CJ/RP-AK-PM-FE/KF. Not crossing my fingers that I'm gonna get it.

Refs didn't help but that's not why the Jazz are losing. Jazz are losing because Lakers are getting layups and Jazz are shooting fadeaways. 1st-quarter points in the paint 20-8 Lakers. That's being aggressive.

Lakers have two starters on the court. But just for a challenge, Utah goes with all backups. Yeah, it's all the players' fault. And the refs. There's no reason that AK can't be out there; he has no fouls and got a couple of extra minutes' rest already.

Update: Jefferson comes in for Fesenko after less than 4 minutes' playing time after Gasol subs out. AJ misses hard immediately.

The "prison guard" tandem of Price and Watson are doing good things. RP with a sick dunk but now has two fouls. Still 39-21.

Somebody has to play physical on Odom.

I find it hilarious how soft this team acts when playing the Lakers. It looks like they play intimidated. And Fes. His hands are as bad as Ostertag's. I still think he deserves time. But man grab the ball! It's not over yet. We saw them come back on the already crowned Miami Heat.

13-3 run led by the "prison guards". Maybe this is telling us that RP (in the absence of anyone else stepping up) is Utah's x-factor.

This helps us remember how valuable a capable backup PG can be. Or two of them.

It helps when Gasol and Kobe are on the bench, though. They come back in at 6:08 in Q2.

Price, Watson, Millsap, and a +1 Miles or the only ones with a positive +/- at this point.

Now Price sits down and Watson and Williams are playing together. I like the experimentation.

Insightful moment: Jerry gets off the bench to tell Deron to move the ball up the court.
(Sign that the first team isn't hustling until prompted by the bench.)

Referee update: Fisher tries to draw a foul on an awkward 3-point shot and then fouls Watson promptly thereafter. (In other words, the refs aren't out to get us.)

Yes, I think you are a dork. And apparently I am not the only one here who thinks that.
gee, now the jazz are back in it. So does taht mean the reffing matters now?

"Dork?" Wound my tender heart with your harsh words.

I don't really care if you think I'm a dork. And I don't care if you're not the only one.

Don't start whining about the refs in Q1 when the Jazz aren't playing like they deserve calls.

The Jazz were down independent of the refs. The Jazz are back in it independent of the refs.

Update: I'm gonna give props to Sloan for more experimentation than usual in finding a combination that works. Deron at the 2 frustrated Kobe some, and although it was interesting to take out Price instead of Watson (Price did have 2 fouls and might be worth preserving for 2H), it put DW in a position where he needed to take responsibility for the Laker's foundational player.

Here's a point for criticism: a late call by the refs, giving DW his 2nd foul. But AK coming in tries to fill in the void, blocking AK but unfortunately committing the foul when KB recovers.

L.A. up 50-46 with half a minute left in Q2, and that score persists until halftime.

We'll take it. 29-17 quarter for Utah. Is the Raja--or the RB + AK wing combo--a weak link?

Clearly there is something wrong with the starting lineup. They start the team off with a deficit in almost every game. As long as substitutions are made quickly, it isn't unrecoverable, but it does make things tough to start out behind.

Nissalke rightfully questioning Phil Jackson's decision to not put back more starters in earlier in Q2.

No, you are wrong. Lakers are getting away with a lot, shooting 20 fts to the jazz 9

IF you didn't care, you wouldn't have said anything about it. You care what I say because you were afraid that I was taking about you in my first post. You are a dork and your posts are lame.

We called it before the game even started because this is what always happens. The reffing has not been called even
and I WILL KEEP SAYING IT NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT IT

I am not one to complain about refs. But man what a crap call when Kobe was fouled. I have never seen such a late call before. And if anyone else had complained about a call like that they would have been Td up. The refs weren't all that bad. But that was crazy. I think that it should be a rule that a foul can't be called if the other team is making their way up the court.

OK, Mr.-moan-about-the-refs-and-make-no-other-analysis-whatsoever.

If you don't like my posts, then don't read them. It's a free country.

OK, now I get it: you're complaining about the refs just so you can be right.

I'll put your question back in your lap: now that the Jazz are back in the game, are the refs doing better << rolleyes >>?

It's not the refs folks. The Lakers shredded us in the first quarter. Now the Jazz have more energy and physicality, and it's making the Lakers hesitate.

CJ Miles needs to get off offensively.

First Half Thoughts:
-Ronnie Price's dunk was the turnig point

-How good was Earl Watson? Those were 12 outstanding minutes of basketball by him.

-Points in the Paint: 1st QTR 20-8 LA; 2nd QTR 12-8 Utah; don't settle for jumpers when the going gets tough

-Violet Palmer is a bad ref, but not bad like Steve Javie, Bob Delaney, Dick Bavetta or Joey Crawford. Those guys are intelligent enough to have an agenda that they will implement throughout the game. Violet Palmer isn't smart enough to do that, she's just incompetent.

The majority of her calls went LA's direction becasue they were the ones driving to the rim hard so she bought it.

Have the pleasure of watcthing this on tv down here in australia. What a great effort by price and watson to get us back in the game - jeez they have been good in the last couple of weeks - who would have thought.

On the other hand - AK is really struggling - we need him to start getting those easy slashing baskets - without that - he doesnt give much.

As others have said - need AJ to take it to gasol like he did in the preseason.

And hayward was out of his depth on the court - not saying the kid wont be good - but he aint up to playing agst the lakers at this time.

cmon jazz - come out big in the 3/4!!! if not - bring the bench on early!!!

Wo0t--AK comes alive in the second half. On a trey, Kiri ties the Lakers at 62. Then Millsap draws contact (no foul) and ties it again at 64. Then DW gets a lead from a foul by Bryant. Then Kiri takes it hard to the rack to tie it again at 68.

(In other words, the difference from the first quarter is Utah's aggressiveness and hustle, NOT the refs.)

Raja draws foul 3 on Fisher; AK draws foul 4. That's a plus (although there's not much of a dropoff from Fish to Blake or Brown).

Even down the stretch in Q3, the Karma continues; DW misses the second of 2 free throw shots, but Gasol is in the lane (sign of lack of concentration by the World Champs?). Utah's makes the second-chance second shot. 75-72 at the end of three; 29-point quarter in both Q2 and Q3.

Now the starters have stepped it up; it's gonna be crucial for the "prison guards" to preserve/build the lead, because the starters will likely be back to finish the game.

well cj plays better d on kobe then hayward IMO

What makes you say that? Hayward is a smart defender. He is going to get bodied for sure, but he is pretty good at denying the ball and moves his feet well. CJ is throwing up garbage and throwing the ball away.

You know, if Boozer were still here and Jefferson wasn't... Gasol would have had about 12 points down that stretch and the Lakers would have the lead right now... This is what Jefferson brings that Boozer didn't... A defensive presence in the middle....

As far as I'm concerned... Jefferson is looking more comfortable, more aware, and his style of play is far more valuable than Boozers for this Utah team...

I knew he'd come around...

Rippin game of bball - nice to see ak47 getting his mojo back!!! CJ still looks a bit out of sorts - hope he doesnt settle for jumpers in the 4th. DWill playing a hell of a game to!!

Gasol playing great - we gotta find a way to surprise double him without giving away an open shot - that sounds easy!!!
