What's new

Jazz vs Maccabi tonight at 7 PM MST

This Rubio hate is going to be the next ******** swamp on jazzfanz.
If he plays like he did in these two games so far then ya, I'm pretty sure he will get lots of hate. I'm pretty sure that he will be much better though and won't get much hate.
We will see.

Yeah because Dante doesnt have the intangible affect that Rubio does. Rubio can have garbage individual stats but still put his stamp on the game.

But what about tangible effects?

Rubio hasn't been great but he's experimenting a bit. I don't think there is a reason to make a change and if Exum does force Snyder to make a change that is crazy good for us. We could move Ricky at the end of the season if need be.

It is way to early for people to be looking at a change but someone should start the Can We End the Ricky Rubio Experiment thread... we all know it is coming:

I don't hate on Rubio. I hate on the fit of Rubio + Gobert/Favors and the fit of Rubio + Quin's offensive system. I think Rubio can be very good if he's given the ball and relied to initiate the offense and surrounded with good shooters. This is not us and this is not Quin's system.

He's a polarizing player. I think people will either be in the camp that loves him or the camp that thinks he's trash.

Looking forward to the Exum, DM, Burks, Thabo, Favors bench rotation. This sooooooo needs to happen. I know Favors is a starter but he would be so sexy with those other guys. . .

BTW, that's two games Exum has looked better than Rubio in. I keep stressing - with our scheme and with Favors+Gobert front court, Rubio is a liability on offense. Dante is much more dynamic player for what Snyder wants them to do. He's also reading the game much better than before right now. True, it's a non-NBA competition, but if he keeps it up he's going to demand time. IMO if this is what Exum is even against NBA competition, Quin will have very hard time answering the question mid-February about whether he's thought about making a change at the starting PG spot.

If Exum signs an extension, then this could happen at some point in the season, but right now is way too early. If Exum decides to take his chances on FA, there is ZERO chance that Utah goes out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot on having to throw big money at Dante.

You think many people would think he was trash if he was playing great?

My view of Rubio is more or less Rondo without the attitude (of a few years ago). He's just not going to be a reliable shooter, but he makes everyone else better. We need to accept that.

Who knows, it may even catch up to the Dante hate at some point.

Maybe, but the Dante Hate Index is already so heavily skewed by all the dudes around here that want to give him the reach around no matter what, so...

I don't think Rubio will have that kind of fan club.

Imagine how bad it's going to be when the homers end up being right and Dante turns into a really good player. That's going to suck for the Exum police who constantly search for any positive comment to rebuke.

Yeah, because Rubio playing great may not translate to Rubio scoring points.

Exactly... he might go 1-6 and have 6-7 points in a few games and box score experts will declare him awful. I think he's going to be fine... the Jason Kidd nonsense is not happening.

I think he will be better than that... rondo couldn't shoot free throws and was a stat hunter in addition to being an ahole

Are there other jazz players that had a lot of haters that played great?

Guys that come to mind who recently got a lot of hate for their play on the court are X, mack, cj miles, Roger braille, Trey burke. I think they all deserved it.

You're too smart to be this binary. Or... so I thought.

One can be both hopeful and honest about Exum at the same time. In other words, it is possible for someone to give legit critiques of his development so far, while being hopeful that he'll put it all together.

Okie dokie.

One can also stalk the Exum homers and harass them even when they are talking about something that has nothing to do with Exum.

One can do a lot of things.

He has also been with the team for a grand total of 3 weeks.

THIS! No, really. THIS!

And it hasn't even been 3 weeks. It was 2.5 weeks ago that Rubio played his last Eurobasket game. I don't know how fast he got to SLC after that and I don't know if he even made it in time for any of the pre-camp pickup games with the other players. Maybe he did. But most likely he's had effectively 1.5 weeks working with the team and getting familiar with players and tendencies, etc. And even then, I think Quin said something about taking into account that he just got done with eurobasket and not having him overdoing it physically in practice.

It may turn out that we're better with Exum. We have zero data to make that judgement right now.
