What's new

Jazz vs Mavericks | Friday December 3rd @ 8:30pm

While this loss hurts a lot and the Jazz had their opportunities to turn this around, Dallas played a great game. I don't think I've ever had anything great to say about their execution, their D, or their intangibles, but tonight they looked like a legitimate, formidable team.

The Jazz just seemed to quit running their sets after a while in the 2nd half and it made all the difference. We executed in the 1st half at least somewhat successfully and what do you know, we are up 4 at the half. 2nd half, just a complete meltdown.

You pretty much summed it up. I was feeling very positive in the 1st half and then they came out and laid an egg in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I was amazed it was down to only a 4 point Dallas lead at the end of the 3rd. Really tough game. The loss is not as tough as the way in which they lost. If they lose a close game you are mad, but not as mad as that 4th quarter in which we couldn't do anything right.

This one's on Deron. Bad decisions against the zone and let's Jason Kidd shoot 3 pointers all day on him - the only way he can hurt you nowadays.
Sloan also gets some responsibility. Dallas has three legit 7 footers you might want, just maybe, to play your 7 footer more than 11 minutes.....

Give credit to Dallas defense, they made every shot tough. Looked like there was a lid on the rim, it can be tough when things aren't going your way. They made D-Will frustrated and that's obviously hurt us a lot..... I see Al Jefferson only had 3 free throw attempts, he's got to find a way to go up stronger to the hoop and at least draw a foul, get something out of the possession.

Gotta get over this one quick. It was the perfect storm. Our offense had a very off night and the Mavericks hit every damn jumper they took. When their jumpshooters are on they're just impossible to stop, but good luck to them getting very far in the playoffs with it.

Bring on Memphis.

This is me in rare form, but I KIND OF agree. The Jazz as a team played poorly and just stupidly (HOW DO YOU GAMBLE OFF OF NOWITSKI after getting burned REPEATEDLY for it???) and I don't think Deron took bad shots, but his "defense" on Kidd was unbelievably bad and the coaching staff takes some responsibility for that as well (does anyone have a scouting on Kidd newer than when Y2K was an issue?).

Fesenko's +/- wasn't good, but no one's was very good. He made an impact when he was in. Really not sure how he couldn't get more minutes.

Anyway.

The Jazz are good still, 15-6 every 21 games this season and they'll get to 58-59 wins total... That should be good for 3rd in the West.

But, about the game, I still had some hope that Deron would have shown some heart at the end and knee'd Berea in the nards as he blew past him for the 50th time.

You guys are a bunch of jokes.

It's sloan's fault that Jefferson missed how many shots inside the paint?
It's Sloan's fault that we shot 21 percent from the 3 point line (CJ 2-6)?
It's Sloan's fault that we couldn't capitalize on our 30 to 11 advantage from the FT line?
It's Sloan's fault that Kidd looked like Reggie Miller?
It's Sloan's fault that Fransico Elson doesn't know how to inbound the ball?
It's Sloan's fault for Deron just having a sucky game? And for AK not showing up? And for Raja taking a night off?

Jeez.... Is this HOF coach ever going to please you people? I think we could win the championship this year and some of you would criticize the way he holds the trophy.

Jeez.

Relax.

The Jazz had a bad game. The zone through us off a bit. But I think we'll execute better with time. Al just barely is getting used to the offense against man to man. It's going to take some time for our team to get it going against a zone. If anything, I doubt we have enough 3 point firepower to consistently beat a zone. Not until Memo comes back... Or Hayward all of a sudden develops... Or until KOC pulls a trade for Stevie Jackson...

One thing I wanted to point out, I was given row 5 tickets tonight. I'm usually in the nosebleed section so tonight was pretty cool. However, I noticed something that I think is worth mentioning:

Deron and AK were having spats ALL night long. At the start of the 2nd half, Deron called out High C. He proceeded to call it out 3 times. AK was clearly running the wrong play and kinda threw his head back like, "oh duh, ooops, my bad." Deron gave him a scal, and then proceeded to go one on one off the broken play since the shot clock was winding down.

This happened at least 2 more times during the game.

Another time, Deron was calling out a play, and AK went halfway over to one side of the court, realized he was on the wrong side of the court, Deron gave him a look, and AK went over to the other side to set a screen. The screen was poorly set and it looked as if AK was meant to be coming off the screen instead of setting it... The play was broken and a forced Jefferson jumper was the result.

Blame Jerry for this loss all you want.

But if our max player who's been in this system the longest can't run the plays right, then we're not going to win against a team like the Mavs.

Blame Jerry for this loss, but if our PG is outplayed by his counterpart and his backup, then there just aren't many teams we're going to beat...

We can blame Sloan for not playing Fess more, not preparing our guys a little better for the zone(despite not having a single 3 point shooter that scares anyone), and for not trying out Evans or Hayward...

But the main focus should be on our team. They didn't match Dallas's intensity, didn't execute well under pressure, and missed too many shots/FTs.

AK can be frustrating sometimes. For someone who has been on the team for that long he occasionally makes rookie-like mistakes.

Fire Sloan's senile ***. He has lot it clearly. He is driving this team into the ground. We need fresh blood and some coach with better grades in coaching 101

“They were very good defensively,” said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. “They made it difficult for us almost all the time.

“But we played into their hands a great deal. Give them credit for taking us out of it, but we forget where we’re supposed to go sometimes.”

Thriller, I think Sloan kind of endorses your observation.

I hope they take the game footage of this and burn it. Sucky game all around, the best thing they can do is forget it and move on, and hopefully get revenge in a week.

Definitely a bad game overall and one I hope the team doesn't forget but puts behind them all the same. No time to sulk about it, we are still in a good position standings wise and will only improve in the next stretch of games.

Time to start a new winning streak.

First game of the year I have got to see, and it had to be a stinker ru. Missed most of the first half before I found it on TV. Could not believe we could play so bad. Seemed like everyone was trying to look good on national TV. Poor team play.
P.S. I live in the Philippines and get poor internet reception in the area I live, so ESPN and NBA.com channels are the only games I can watch. Man was I disapointed!
