My best advice is: Use three 4 team double elimination brackets as a first stage as shown in the pic:

The winner advances to the semi finals. Since it's DOUBLE elimination up to this point, to find the 4th quarterfinalist, teams that have only 1 loss(The teams that went through the winner's bracket but got knocked out by a team coming from the losers bracket) are priorotized. That means if all 3 losers of the grand final are suffering the first loss, it's a 3 way tiebreaker round robin to find the 4th for the semifinals. If it's 2 then it's headsup and if it's only 1 team with only 1 loss it's a direct berth. If all 3 teams losing the grand final are those who have already 2 losses, then it's a round robin between these 3 to determine the fourth. With the final four you can do it single elimination since the first tournament stage already had a lot of games to vote on.

Another way is making four groups with 3 teams each. Winner or Top 2 advance for the bracketphase. (IN this case maybe top 2 is better, since this way limit the amount of games in the group stages heavily)

I think the best way for the 12 team tournament is this:

1. Use the placings 1-12 already determined during the draft process.

2. First Round: Team 1 plays Team 12, Team 2 plays Team 11, and so on...

3. x6 winners goes through to Quarter Final Round.

4. Losers Round: x6 losers fight it out in x2 groups of 3. Voters will vote for the best team out of 3 teams. x2 worst teams from each group will be eliminated. A total of 4 teams eliminated in this round.

5. x2 winners will emerge from each of the 2 groups. These winners will join the other 6 teams in the Quarter Finals Round.

6. Quarter Final round proceed as per normal, then Semi Final Round, then Championship Round..

All together there would be:

x6 games for the First Round

x2 games for each groups of 3 (Losers Round)

x4 quarter final games

x2 semi final games

x1 championship game

I think this is a good system because it gives the losers another chance at glory. We're really only adding x2 extra games to make this work (losers round), which to me isn't too much to ask.

Gotta keep in mind that site votes will diminish quickly. Those not playing the game will lose interest very quickly in the polls.
That said, I couldn't possibly give a **** less how it's done.

Nope. I just saw the words 'losers bracket' and felt that was too much. Not criticizing.. just that the votes across so many polls will eventually come down to almost entirely those playing the game. Like I said, I don't care at all.. just making an observation.

Yeah, it's really just 2 extra polls. But if we want to cut it extra short, we can even just make it 1 poll with all 6 losers... 2 teams with the most votes go through, the rest eliminated.

That way we're only really playing 1 extra game... which is pretty good considering the circumstances.

Regardless how it's done, I am certain spy will put in the Poll thread title whether it is the winner's or consolation bracket.. and the winner's bracket will get more votes out of the general populace anyway.
