What's new

Jazzfanz Internet TV/radio show

I'm thinking like 2-3 regular hosts with a section where any Jazz fan can come in and give an opinion.

Let's try to hash this out and maybe do a handful or so of these by the end of the season. By next season, it could be a regular thing.

It's something that is needed, an independent voice for the Jazz. All of the current broadcasting personalities are company men and usually not at all enjoyable to listen to.

This board is filled with idiots...why would anybody else want to hear our ramblings?

Why do people still watch cable news or listen to talk radio? They are filled with idiots and nonsense. And have you watched ESPN at all lately? It's not how well-informed or intelligent your opinions are, but how confidently you express them that attracts viewers or listeners.

I don't watch ESPN because it's a ****ty product. 95% chance this would be worse.

I have experience with broadcasting and I have been trying to setup a podcast based on nerdy topics. Something like this could be easily done with skype, open broadcaster software, and twitch.tv. As far as people calling in? Hmm,... maybe over skype as like a guest on the show, but nothing really live. On Twitch there is a chat room that people can type into that should work as a "call in your question".

(You may want to fast forward it a bit)

^is an example of what it could look like, but instead of a video game playing we could set it up so it would show skype and the webcams of all in the call. If this was a live broadcast then to the right of the video there would be a chat room where anyone could ask a question to the host(s).

Two or three people could just record a 1-2 hour conversation on skype and post in on youtube every week, david locke style tip off style. All you need is skype, some sort of recording software and a youtube account. They can also talk about like maybe 4-5 of the most common threads that week on Jazzfanz. Maybe also have a guest or two every week as well. If anyone wants to talk with me about Jazz I could record it and post it every week. I am down for that but if not I understand :).

Nobody is going to tune in for an hour or two of this. It will need to be 15 minutes tops until it gets polished than perhaps a half hour max. The first thing you will need to find is a producer and a tech guy to set the format and make sure that format can be supported by the available tech. Once that all lines up and is tested, you can then look for the talent to do the reporting, and it is MUCH harder than you would think it is. Those people would need to be provided stats and fresh take ideas. by probably 5 or 6 other people. Generally the stat geeks aren't the best speaking talent. Hopefully you could get someone to do graphics, or at least a logo of some sort. And, after you get all that done, the real hard work of promotion begins. Because if no one is listening all of the other hard work will get old real quick.

I like the idea.
My English is not good enough to host, but I offer my help to the podcast in some stats insights I can send from time to time.

Really really great thought. Go for it..

No, no, no. The hardest thing is finding people that can keep a conversation going. Most everyone that is reading this has the tech we need. Basically all you need is a webcam and a microphone. That's it. Skype has volume adjusters where you can control how loud someone is, so yeah we dont need a mixing board or anything like that. Really it's pretty easy to set something like this up.

I think it's a fun idea to try, sure. I have no skillz in doing any of that stuff though. Could use the chat room like they do on TWiT as well. I suppose we could go ghetto for now and get some people on Skype and record it short-term...

I'm not very popular here, but I actually had my own weekly podcast a few years ago on Webtalk Radio. In addition, I wrote copy for another podcast on that network. So, I know the nuts and bolts. If there is someone who wants to do it, I could help get it started.

The procedure was to record the shows on Skype with the G-Recorder program (very inexpensive) over which I would call my guests. I also used digital headphones / mike. I had a regular lead-in / promo (theme) and closing that Webtalk helped me develop. Every week I uploaded the program to their site. But there's no reason you need Webtalk to do this.

You could simply set up your own Jazzfanz network and just advertise the show through Jazzfanz. Think of the possibilities interviewing players, coaches not only on the Jazz but other teams, as well as media. I think it's a great idea and not that difficult to do. However, it is a lot of work and I wouldn't do it for no pay, but I'm sure there are people on the site who would and I'd be happy to help them get started.
