What's new

Jeff Green has been waived

I’m pretty sure this was mutual. Green lives in Miami. His wife is there and has been there like a week. They released him in the city he lives? At the end of a road trip so he wouldn’t have to fly back to SLC to play a game the day after Christmas? Pretty convenient to be a coincidence. He may not have been happy with his role and the Jazz probably weren’t all that happy with his play. Very much would guess it was mutual.

Great insight. I wondered about the awkwardness of it all.

"No Jeff you can't get on the plane. Buy your own ticket to wherever."

Wow. Today is so un-DL.
Why?
Can’t wait to hear what the story is on this. Has to be more.
He was straight trash, and didn’t give any effort whatsoever. That’s more damaging to a team than just having a bad attitude.
He's still better than Niang.

He's still more experienced and prepared to help us win than Brantley, Bradley, Morgan, Oni, JWF, NWG.

WE ARE TRYING TO CONTEND HERE, NO?
Not trying trumps everything. Your insufferable whining about green being dumped on his sanctimonious *** is idiotic. We were losing with him on the floor, if he’s better off riding the bench the team is better off cutting his ***!!!

This makes me sooooo happy. Niang needs more minutes, and opens a door for my favorite player, Brantley.
This kid better kill this opportunity. We're gambling a lot on this. Our bench frontcourt is now Niang and Davis who have both been terrible and a Gleaguer.
Wtf are we gambling?
Decent trade. We had obviously given up on the Exum experiment. I suggested going after Clarkson numerous times a couple years back. The guy can flat out score.

Overall, this is primarily a salary dump though. Getting off of Exum's $9+ next season if he's not part of the plan is quite big. Also, if possible, I wouldnt be shocked if Clarkson wasn't traded at the deadline as part of a bigger trade package.

We don’t here from LoPo for ever, the jazz make a trade and there he is. He’s a trade Groupie.

Bottom line is a player as physically gifted as Green should be having a much bigger impact on a team than Green was doing for us. In fact I’ll go so far as to say he’s 100% to blame for how bad our bench has been. Now all you idiots will see how wrong you are about Niang. Now he has a chance to thrive in this system, amazing how no one sees how he’s stepped up his gam in the last couple weeks

Thank you for this. Seemed like such a brutal thing to do right before Christmas but this shows the Jazz were actually looking out for him.

A thought: the Jazz can trade Clarkson again before the trade deadline if they want in a one-for-one deal. But because Clarkson makes $13.4M, not $9.6M, the Jazz could acquire up to $18.4M in a trade this Jan/Feb. If he works, keep him, if not, move again for another piece?
Icing on the cake

Very helpful. Thank you. Do you know what the financial impacts of Green’s waiver are? Does it depend on if anyone picks him up?

Another factor could be that Green, considering we don't have a true PF, was thinking he'd be starting in that role. In fact, that was what some people thought, and that Ingles and Royce would come off the bench. But with Conley sucking like he has, that necessitated us to start Royce or as it seems to be turning out, Ingles. That diminished Green's role and it was said one of the reasons he signed with the Jazz was to play with Conley. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jazz also are looking to unload Conley and making Donovan the point guard.

Green is 100% to blame? Niang has 3 AST total in his last 10 games. A total of 20 REB in those 10. Averaging around 5-6 pts in about 15 minutes. He's a decent shooter but I'm not seeing much of an upside to Niang.

Guess the guys in charge think we were looking old out there and needed some younger guys to give us a spark. I like it. These G-League players can come out of nowhere and really help a team out so maybe Tucker will be a nice surprise. We know what Clarkson will give us off the bench which is instant offense. I'm on board with our recent moves.

Gets us into Iguodala range right?

DL has been aggressive since the day he got here. The fact that you have a plan and follow a plan does not make you conservative. DL has continually worked at improving this team and always been willing to make moves that make sense. They don't all pan out but that is the nature of the job. Nothing is a sure thing. Kudos to the Jazz FO for making some moves.

And one more thing - I really hope that Niang is not the answer to our front line woes.

Wow the move is surprising considering Jeff was getting consistent minutes off the bench. I like the initial deal to bring him in but recently he seemed disconnected and not performing as well. Don't know he may just be a laid back guy. I don't think anyone needs to trash him because we don't know the details and for all accounts he has been a good teammate wherever he has been. I wish him well. Maybe Jeff and the Jazz agreed to part ways in Miami since that is where he lives. Who knows? I don't really care.

Life moves on and I am hoping that the new additions can come in and help the team. Our starters looked gassed against Miami. I still think the Jazz need another big man and to play Bradley over Davis.

Its not addition by subtraction. Jeff Green was one of our ten best players. It makes no sense to cut him instead of someone on our roster who either does not belong in the league or is not ready for the league.

This was a terrible move.
It may open the door for someone like Brantley or Morgan.

All things said about Ingles including not an actual nba player yada yada yada. Look at his per 36 mins. He’s averaging 11 min a game. Hard to get in a rhythm within the offense and flow of a game playing that many minutes. Once he’s playing 20-25 min all his numbers will go up.
