Jody Genessy Deseret News - Hayward "wants better talent around him"

Yep. A few Spurs' guys did this for years. Hayward needs to recognize the importance of that. If he, Gobert, Favors, Hood, and Exum each end up taking about 4M less per year than they could make elsewhere, that's 20M freed up so that everyone can be re-signed and/or the bench can be solidified. Seriously, is it gonna kill him to make 26M per year rather than 30M? Dude will still likely rake in over 250M in just NBA contracts alone by the time he retires (maybe even 300M) and be set. And that selflessness can help build a trust and camaderie that can build something special on the court imo.

That's real money you want them to give up. Maybe it seems silly in comparison to what they make, but I know if it was me I'd be looking at it like that's 4M I have left after I blow the rest. $4M I can leave for my family. $4M I can buy my mom a house with (RIP). $4M is more than I'll earn in a lifetime, and that's what we all think is so easy to give up?

It's a big ask, but somehow the Spurs seem to talk their players into doing it. I wonder how much they end up making up for it in endorsements? I think that may play into it for some players.

REally good point guard and Hill do not belong in the same sentence. Good and really good have 2 different meanings,imo.... Hill is what maybe around number 20-30 if you was rating point guards of the nba... I will give him this much. He is better then Exum and it isn't even close and Exum is the one some of you want to start

He wants better teammates around him? Hayward wants to be the Man and let me tell you something when you are the Man you make those around you better.. Hayward should just say truth and that is the Jazz need someone better then me because I would make a much better second or third option then I do a first option. First option Hayward leads to late lottery pick. YAH

Funny everyone mentions the Spurs. If it was this easy then every team would do it. First off Spurs have a coach who can coach and has never been fired. Quin has gotten canned before... Spurs whol front office is ran like a smooth family ran business. U/tah sucks. They have shown that with the trading a 12 pick for a 12 and 6 30 year old and then selecting Paige in round 2.. No one and I mean not anybody had Paige going in the draft. LOL

Totally, that Paige selection is going to be a franchise killer. An absolutely critical, pivotal, franchise altering mistake. There were so many high quality players available.

Here's what I saw:

White guys always get caught for that extra step.

Fantastic point. That is the first criteria for judging coaches -- all coaches who have been fired suck. Lenny Wilkins sucked. Thibodeau sucks. Sloan. Chuck Daily. George Karl. Suck suck suck.

PS: technically Snyder was never fired. He resigned from Missouri but almost certainly would have been fired. Was never fired from an NBA or DL job.

Lebron did it many times as well. He was never the highest paid player on his team until his second go round in Cleveland

Hayward needs to step up, and worry about his own game. At times we've seen Hayward play at a high level. An Allstar level.
There have been times during the last two seasons hes looked outstanding. The problem is he is not consistent(playing at a high level), has never been an all-star,
and never led a team to the playoffs. Clearly we need to upgrade, but also clearly we have enough talent to make the playoffs
now. We've needed a leader more than anything. Hayward could be that guy. I think he is talented enough to be a good number one,
but he doesnt have the fire to be a great one. And in no reasonable scenario do I see him leading a team to a title.

We are damned if we do (build around Hayward), and dammed if we don't (trade or let him walk in FA). We have a lot of talent on the team.
With Exum, and Burks coming back clearly we should make the playoffs. With the addition of Hill we had experience, and talent. I just dont see
a leader in Hayward, Exum, or anyone on the roster. I hold out a little hope for Gobert, but he regressed last year. Too much of our talent is passive
and quiet. Favors, Hood, Hayward, Exum etc. We need some nasty on the roster.

Actually, yes. It's true.
Lol OK I looked it up. He never took a paycut, Cleveland just had veterans on the team who where eligible for bigger contracts. Lebron always took the full max on Cleveland.
