What's new

Julius Randle?

I recall randle being very hungry, even ravenous. I would say he's probably more hungry than favors.

He could probably play SF too.

I actually wouldn't mind him... I think he's a better playmaker than Favs but other than that he's pretty meh.

actually his defense was much improved last year
It wasn't, really. He lacks effort, awareness and lateral quickness, three key components that make it so much more difficult for him to contribute on D. Not surprisingly he again posted a negative DRPM and ranked 76th out of 81 PFs in the league. The previous year he was 67th out of 74.

He's an awful defender and non-shooter who can put the ball on the floor and attack the open lanes, pass and rebound. He's mostly the same player he was at UK, only fitter. He's still young and could get better, especially on a franchise -unlike the Lakers the past couple of years- where they push him to improve in certain areas. But his current fit and upcoming free agency make him a bad target, IMO.

His lateral quickness isn't ever going to improve. My sense is that as long as you can deny him a lane to the hoop, he becomes worthless. He can't go around anyone, can't stop and pop, cn't defend a chair. Hell, for the money, I'd rather get Booker back who has a similar game, but is at least enjoyable in the locker room.

Favors is better than Randle, but they do have something in common - they will both get overpaid by somebody next summer. Either would help us some this year but we would be foolish to keep either long term.

I want Kuzma. I think he fits perfect long term. I know you guys hate hearing about it, but Deng, Kuzma, and picks for Favors and expirings is a good long term deal.

Think about it like this: Deng and Kuzma combined will make less than what Favors projects to make in 2018, 2019, etc. Before Kuzma needs a new deal and Mitchell and Gobert for that matter, Deng's contract will be gone.

So no thanks to Randle.

Just like we wouldn't trade Mitchell right now, the Lakers aren't trading Kuzma. Summer league hysteria.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they end up trying to trade Kuzma. I'd just be surprised if anyone is taking Luol Deng w/ 3 years left for Kuzma.

Maybe if Kuzma has a solid year they can use him to trade Deng when he only has 2 years left.

Everybody would praise a Deng dump right now, even if they dump Kuzma and picks, because everybody expects LA to sign everybody next summer. However, next summer could actually materialize as a big flop for LA if PG is happy in OKC and LBJ wants to actually contend which LA is too young to do.

Favors will leave next summer or we overpay to keep him. I would rather Kuzma, Deng and picks for $20 per year than Favors.

Ehh, I wouldn't. Doing any kind of dump right now makes no sense. Just wait a year when the contract has less negative value.

Unless he has an All-Star type of season, I don't think Favors is getting anything close to 20M per season next year. Right now the NBA is only projecting a modest rise of the salary cap for the next couple of seasons (102M in 2018, 103 in 2019), so spending around the league will be much closer to this year's than what we saw last summer when the cap skyrocketed. Plus, the market is moving away from traditional big men to a certain extent as they look for mobility and outside shooting in every position, they're just not that coveted anymore.

That doesn't mean I want to keep Favors with the intention to re-sign him next summer (quite the contrary), but I wouldn't take on Luol Deng right now only to get Kyle Kuzma. It's just too big of a burden financially with those 3 years remaining on his contract.

Favors will be 26 next year. If he gets extra touches this year due to Hayward leaving and Rubio being a passer, he will have value. This is assuming, like many do, he can stay healthy.

There will be a number of teams with the need for a big and cap space to burn. $18-20 million is a logical amount.

The Lakers are so cocky about next off-season that they would give up so much to unload Deng right now. http://thebiglead.com/2017/07/23/wo...-and-lebron-mode-from-the-day-they-took-over/

Deng, Kuzma and a bunch of picks for Favors and Neto. I have much more faith in the next 4 years of Kuzma than I do with Favors. And we get picks....

This is how we get something (Kuzma and picks) for a player (Favors) than just losing them for nothing (Hayward, AK, etc.).

That would be sweet if the Lakers were willing to do it.

Hells to the yea

He wants out of LA, I would too, fine with me if we grabbed him

Do yall even watch basketball? For real. How is Randle going to handle being in our offense? The Lakers spread the floor to where is always with Kuzma or Lopez, who are shooting bigs. They also play at a high pace and when he is in the game he has free reign to post-up to his delight. Randle wouldn't work in Quin's offense.

Honestly, the Jazz should probably just stop looking at PFs all together and just focus on 3 wing lineups at the 2-4 .

I'm down for starting Hood, Ingles and Sefalosha at the 2-4.

There are a ton of people who argue for keeping Favors. If you are in that camp, you should recognize that Randle is a harderworking, younger version of Favors. He won't be our stretch 4, but I think the kid still has a ton of room for growth. He does amazing work in limited minutes right now.

I would prefer a guy like Kuzma or Harrison Barnes, but Randle is still an upgrade over what we have and a good piece for us long term.
