What's new

July 14 SL Exum vs Parker 8:30 MT

Brock was cool but he's goofy as ****. Someone start a kickstarter for him in order to get a decent haircut. I'm sure there are more than a few Jazz fans from this board that connect with him on a personal level.

Reported for racism.

Because Hayward's contract has ZERO financial impact in the first two years. It doesn't prevent the Jazz from doing anything. Well, I take that back. WE aren't going to trade for Amare's expiring of $22M. Hayward will opt out after year 3; that's the whole purpose of the clause; so he can get the HUGE bump after his 7th year. At worst, the Jazz get a giant trade exception. Do I HATE his contract? Yes, I do. Do I wish he had given Utah a Curry discount (or even a Favors one). Yes, I do.

AK's contract only screwed over the Jazz in the final three seasons and that was ONLY because Larry H. vetoed a couple of trades (allegedly). Hayward's deal is 4 years (unless he opts out). Jazz can keep everyone on the roster without going over the luxury tax threshold.

It's not just about keeping key players together.

It's also about making key additions. His contract doesn't help us here. Losing him wouldn't have hurt us. We already have his replacement in Exum, Hood, and Burks. Choose any 1 of these 3.

Plus, it's the principle of the thing.

Personally, I loved Paul Millsap. But id be just as pissed if we had paid him the max. I really would. Love the guy, he's a lot better than Hayward will ever be, and he's a perfect community member. He leaves everything out there on the court just like Malone. But I'd be pissed if we ever paid him the max.

To me, it's a principle. You don't play lazy asses, you respect your mom, and you don't pay soft role players max money.

It's that simple.

I know, I'm a horrible person and a sucky fan for not drinking the Hayward Kool-aid. But I'm a jazz fan. Not an Andrei Hayward fan

Both he and Hayward were point forwards playing in their contract year for terrible teams and were rewarded for inflated stats. How can you not see that?
Pointed this out before, but AK was extended after the 03/04 season. He was an all-star that season, and the Jazz just barely missed the playoffs.

Bolerjack is going to have to change his line from buckle up to screw the seat belt and just floor it.

Did anyone else catch that great Bolerism in the opening moments of the third? Boler played football(American) and calls football for cbs sports. Sometimes his football brain leaks into the jazz broadcast. A common phrase in football is "both sides of the ball". It means offense and defense, as in "the Steelers won because they were better on both sides of the ball." In basketball the phrase is usually "Both ends of the floor".

Boler was trying to compliment Goberts efforts in the first half: "Gobert has been getting it done on both sides of the....uh...the center circle tonight."

The colour commentator on NBA TV said the same thing though, not sure it's strictly a football thing now.

If we can ever get away with a lineup where we have Hayward or Hood at the 4, that would be awesome to watch.

Gobert + Favors = Swat Lake City

this will be an exciting season

If Favors can play the 4, that's a crazy fun defensive lineup to consider. Like I said earlier, I hope Snyder goes all "Mad Scientist" and experiments with different lineups based on what other teams do and try to create mismatches.

What's the matter with everyone? The jazz just beat the Greek Freak and Statue Moroni, and beat them good. The best players in the game were the 23 and 27 picks in the draft. Trey and Dante actually play well together. Coach Snyder is coaching instant offense, or Quinstant Offense as I like to call it. Exum is a basketball angel, gliding effortlessly here and there passing out goodness everywhere he goes. Gobert can pass. Hood can pass. Burks is going to average 16 fta per game if he can stay on the floor. The Jazz are.500 for the first time since March 30, 2013.

Gripe about Hayward tomorrow, tonight we celebrate!!!!

This is why I don't think we should have matched Hayward.

Burke's gonna start at the 1, Exum's gonna eventually start at the 2, Burks' the 6th man off the bench, Hayward we've PAID so he'll surely start at the 3.

That's not gonna leave a lot of time for Hood on the floor. The way he's shooting the ball - he's gotta be on the floor.

Alright group hug (you too thriller). That was a fun bonding experience we all just had. Even doe thriller is kinda being a dick, he's our dick and that's not going to change, let's just embrace it.

Thriller is certainly not my dick. And I will not let him embrace it in any way shaper or form.

GVC, did you see the game tonight? If so, I'd love your take on the game.
Enjoyable.

Looks like Kidd has brought iso-ball to Milwaukee...Of course the Bucks don't have a roster filled with strong iso players like the Nets had last season (Brook, JJ, Pierce, Deron). Nice to see the Jazz playing as a unit; very few bad shots in this game. The Bucks weren't pressuring like the 76ers did on Saturday, but the improvement on O between game 1 and 2 was still impressive.

Hood pretty much as advertised. Dude can shoot, both spotting up and pulling up off the dribble. Played within himself for the most part (one bad pull-up 3 IIRC). If Hayward, Exum and Burks struggle hitting spot-up jumpers, it'll be interesting to see how Quin manages Hood's minutes. It's too bad he's not quite big enough to slide to the 4 for a few minutes a la Marvin last season (I guess this is what Novak is for). Spacing could be an issue, especially with the lack of shooting up front for the Jazz. Kanter and Evans consistently hitting open 15-foot jumpers could make a HUGE difference for this team.

With Burke/Alec/Dante at the 1/2 and Gordo/Hood at the 3, the Jazz will probably get bullied on the wing. Malcolm Thomas, and perhaps Brock Motum, could provide some physical play without hurting the Jazz too much offensively with their ability to get up and down the court.

Exum needs to be more selective going toward the sideline when attacking. It'll probably take him some time to adjust to NBA speed and physicality once the real games start.

Hopefully Steve Novak is only used in late game situations and when the Jazz transition play and shooting isn't keeping defenses honest. I'd like to see Gobert and Evans get regular minutes. Kanter may not see many more minutes this season if Gobert's added bulk (he looks bigger, no?) translates on-court (unlike Gordo's last season).

144 minutes at the 1/2/3 for 5 players, including 2 rookies. That's plenty, especially if the Jazz are going to run. Keep everyone fresh and effective.
