Kanter 30 Pts and 16 Rebs... And Now the Rest of the Story...

Good post, and thank you for coming to my defense again.

As an average, I think your claim in bold is correct, but March has also seen some pretty questionable performances form Hayward.

Last game, he shot 37% for 13 pts, but did shoot 50% from deep.

vs OKC he shot 25% and 0% from three.

vs GSW he shot 23% and 25% from three for 11 pts.

and on Feb 28th before March started he shot 22% and 20% from three vs the Bucks.

So while his March #'s averaged out to not be troublesome, his consistency has been. The way I see it anyways.

Don't forget he's been battling injuries in that period. He's been pretty banged up in the last month or so by the way he plays in general and forces himself into the paint. He's currently top 5 in the league by FTA only behind Westbrook, Harden, Cousins and Lebron. He's actually been missing some wide open shots in the last month that he was hitting before. I think he's just in a minor shooting slump. I haven't noticed his game being changed all that much in that period.

True. Hayward has made enormous strides this year.

Could he be getting injured because he is having to do more, when he was already doing so much?

He was missing wide open shots last year, that he would've drained the year before. He had some nights where he was on fire last year too (ironically, the OKC game where he went for 37 pts is one that comes to mind). Not saying Kanter made Hayward. Hayward made Hayward. But Hayward needs someone else to pick up some of the load, or have another incredible offseason to make up the difference and resume consistency (in my eyes).

You probably don't understand because most of us here are fans of the Utah Jazz. Many of us have been fans (again, of the Utah Jazz) for decades. I was a fan of the Utah Jazz before Kanter was born.

So, being fans of the Utah Jazz first we're all happy to hate someone who has gone out of their way to be a villain to the Utah Jazz.

Since you're not a fan of the Utah Jazz I don't expect you to understand.

I'm a DC fan for 30+ years and have lived through players who dissed Washington teammates or organizations. In hockey Jaromir Jagr comes to mind. I never hated the guy or talked about how much he sucked. It's a business. The guy could be the nicest person in the world, more willing to give your kid an autograph on the street but still leave on bad terms. Must be a Utah thing with only one team perhaps.

Hey, look, this ga-guy knows what Enes Kanter thinks and does. He must know how Penes knows how to make his bed, too and his favorite sex position and signature moves.

Time to let it go bro, you either are stalking or getting piledrived by Kanter.

Wow a sexual comment to make a point. How innovative. Do your parents limit your internet time young fella?

I'm kind of surprised that people here seem so passionately hateful towards Kanter, but it's perfectly understandable that we're acting like fans about it. The guy asked for a trade. That's usually a great way to turn fans of the team you asked to be traded from against you. Then he made comments to the media about how little he liked the Jazz and Utah. So yeah, Jazz fans were perfectly willing to make him their villain. He was basically begging for it. To add a little icing to the hate cake he said he didn't give the Jazz 100% and proved that out by boosting his numbers, especially his assist numbers, on his new team.

You Kanter defenders can defend him all you want. This isn't about logic and reason, this is about fans being fans and a dumb *** player pouring gasoline on top of the fire.

I'm glad you brought up Jaromir Jagr, because...

He was booed everytime he touched the puck in Washington, 9 years after he was traded.

Even directly after he apologized to the Caps owner, plenty of fans still had nothing but hatred for him.

And the most recent example I could find shows that plenty of Caps fans still hate him. 9 years later.

So yeah, gonna call major B/S on your post. Don't make it sound like Utah fans are the only fans in the world who would have acted hostile towards Kanter.

GD, I like the cut of your jib.

I don't care so much that Kanter expressed his displeasure here, it's the ****ing entitlement of his entire position and how much the Jazz invested in him to get so little return. That he **** all over everyone after the fact is a factor but it's secondary.

He is a polarizing figure. He is one of the main reasons why I became a Jazz fan in 2011 after I was a PHX Suns fan. He is probably the best Muslim NBA player in the NBA right now. After Shaq, Kareem, and Hakeem retiring there aren't many left who are that good.

It makes sense then. Turkish fans and Muslim fans identify with Kanter and see him representing them to some extent, so they take his success, his failures, and insults to him more personally.

Because Locke said so? I don't buy it. He seemed very happy and genuine whenever we won, and dejected when we didn't. Same thing in OKC. Just because someone is cognizant of their stats doesn't mean they don't like winning. Maybe the argument you posted below applies to him as well. He cares because he wants to be efficient.

Barf. EVERY PERSON THAT HAS EVER LIVED LIKES WINNING AND DISLIKES LOSING. That is so universally understood that it doesn't have to be addressed (except for now I guess?). Kanter didn't take the steps to contribute to winning on the floor or in the locker room. Being a winner is so much more than a basic desire to win. Like literally every other thing in life, it's what a person DOES that matters, and what Kanter did was not pass the ball and routinely give up on plays defensively. And because that type of play has consequences, he got fewer minutes and a reduced role, but instead of rising to the challenge of what his coaches told him every day and what people were routinely saying at large, he dogged it more and doubled down on his garbage play.

Let me stress again, liking winning does not make a winner.

This line of argument doesn't impress a Mormon like me who didn't vote Romney...

You are a bad person then. Romney once rescued more than 12 school kids, out of an burning school bus. He is a real american.

How? By sitting on the bench?

By given two all stars to play behind and learn from. By given the starting spot when a better player was behind him (Gobert). By playing him at PF, even though Favors is better than Kanter and much better as a PF than a C. By taking more of the coaches time than any other player. And the list goes on.

The Jazz did everything they could to help Kanter succeed. He chose to half *** it and not play defense.

In Kanter's defense, it looks like he did the right thing. It looks like he will still get paid, so good for him.

I remember after the trade that I pointed out how Enes' presence on the court helped Hayward be efficient offensively on a nightly basis, and I was negged like three times for it. Being someone who always found it fun to kick the hornets' nest, I think I'll point out that I was right.

Pre All-Star Hayward shot 46% from the field and 39% from three.

Post All-Star Hayward has shot 41% from the field and 28% from three.

https://espn.go.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/4249/gordon-hayward

We all need to hope Alec is enough of a force to complement Hayward, or that Exum and Hood progress a lot in the offseason, or we get someone really skilled offensively in the offseason, otherwise we could see the return of inefficient Hayward, which is unhappy Hayward.

Pretty simple. Kanter averaged 14 and 8. All we need is Hood to average 10 pts and 40% from 3. Toss in Favors getting to 18-19 pts/game, and Exum getting to 8 pts per game. Boom. Less pressure on Hayward than he had this year.

I've said this all along. I expect Exum to take a small step forward (i.e., be competent on offense next year) which means a BIG jump in offense production from Favors. Exum's interior passing should get Favors and/or Gobert 4-6 more pts per game. I expect Hood to improve. I expect Exum to improve. I expect Burks to give us more than Millsap offensively.

I think Hayward's numbers stay roughly the same. I put Hayward's numbers to slightly dip next year. 18 pts, 6 rebs, 5 assists per game. BUT, I expect Hayward to become a lot more efficient. Back to his 2012-2013 numbers. 40%+ on 2 and 3 pt %. Why? Because he won't be asked to do as much. Because Exum can take care of the ball one or two possessions a game. Because Burks will be there. Because Hood will be better.

So, Kanter's offense is not really that big of a deal for Hayward. And, toss in Kanter's unwillingness to pass, our offense will improve even more than it already has since he left.
