Kanter and Favors as our future

That is what a lot of posters here seem to believe. But will they ever be able to play together as starters? They seem to be awfully similar: the same height, good defenders, good rebounders, bad passers and no offense outside of broken plays and putbacks.

The problem is that I do not see them getting substantially better in scoring and passing. Favors is the same player offensively as a year ago. Kanter was billed as a skilled offensive player, but proved to be anything but. Of course, there is still some hope for him to develop some moves, but very few centers without hops have been offensive threats in the NBA.

I would say, there is at least a 50% chance for both Kanter and Favors to never become a scoring 4/5. Then we will probably need to trade one of them (unless the Jazz pull OKC and surround defensive bigs with elite scoring guards/wings). Who would you trade then? Or can we still be a contender with, say, a big rotation of Millsap/Kanter/Favors?

Eventually one of them should be able to develop a reliable mid-range game. That will help a lot as to their floor spacing.

The difference is Kanter actually has a budding post game. Or any post game at all.

I think Favor's has converted his post opportunities at a higher rate than Kanter. Not 100% sure, but I read a stat that ranked Kanter in the bottom 5% of all players in post-up situations.

Favors has problems with his footwork. Kanter has problems finishing. They both can learn to correct those things.

Really?
1) They're completely different. One of them's a freak athlete and the others a bull. One I see as a great help defender, the other a great post defender.
2) They're both 19 and 20. That's almost just out of high school. Kanter's got a great free throw touch and Favors has a touch. D12 has awful free throw shooting, and he's the most dominant center in the league. Favors has had some good post ups and so does Kanter.

All I know is neither of them will be a threat in the post this year. And I doubt there will be any great strides next year, though I have hope for them both. Favors could be a great PnR player sooner than he'll be a great post player in the Amare mold. Kanter has shown microscopic glimpses of an actual post game, but I won't hold my breath until year 3.

Our society (generation?) has gotten really impatient. I remember when Bynum and Aldridge were in their first few years in the league and people thought that their respective teams had perhaps whiffed in their picks. Neither Favors or Kanter show any signs of being in the K. Brown/Candiman discussion, and both have showed signs that they could really dominate once they make a few tweaks to their games. I'm not guaranteeing that either one will be an All-NBAer. All I'm saying is relax and be patient, and for anyone to consider giving up on either one is ludicrous.

Favors played (and practiced) his rookie season, but then missed rookie camp, summer league and a full training camp. Most people will tell you that the largest improvement most players have in their careers will be between their rookie and second seasons, but I think the 2010 class may have missed out on that improvement.

In Kanter's case, the same applies only prior to his rookie season. PLUS he sat out competitive basketball for over a year.

I can't say yet whether they'll be franchise cornerstones next to each other, but I'm not worried yet. Both have shown significant promise and some weaknesses, but they have time to work on the latter.

Don't forget that this franchise had one of the all time greatest low post and pnr players, he is not currently employed by any other teams so he would be PERFECT to work with the two young, high lottery bigs that are the teams future.

oh, whats that?

The Jazz already hired some other guy to work with the post players?

He's how tall?

Well, he did play in the NBA right?

Jazz aren't bringing him on board, it would be too much of a sideshow and Karl would relish the attention. While I agree with the FO not to hire him as a coach, I do think they could try and go the "DWill to Spokane for a few weeks in the Summer" route with Favors/Kanter and send them away with Karl for a few weeks.
