He really needs to watch late Malone tapes. Malone was not explossive or fast at his 38-40 years of age yet he was able to convert layups or get to the free throw line at will. It was just experience and knowledge how to position himself and how to use your body to seal defender off. If Kanter is willing to learn he might be able to master ir.
Could be hard mentaly though, imaging all his life just scoring and abusing smaller kids without to much to worry about and now he has hard time even releasing his shots from close range without being blocked. It sure could be hard hit of NBA reallity for rook.
Actually I think that plays right into what the kid likes to do. Yes they are faster and tougher at this level. However he looks for the contact and relishes the physicality of the game. He seems to have a drive to be the best and he fights for everything. If the Jazz play their cards right with him I think he will explode next year into a double/double average 12-10/10.
You really think Gasol has as good of stroke or as much range as Kanter has shown outside of NBA play? Kanter is a rook playing way too fast when he gets the ball. Gasol is a wily vet. Kanter's got the stroke, he just needs some experience and confidence. Not saying he will be Memo at some point, but the dude shoots pretty pure.
At least he is below Jason Collins.

Did you even watch Marc Gasol play outside of Jazz games? Dude regularly makes 16-20ft jumpers and even made 4 3-pointers on .308 % ( better then Hayward this season) in NBA. Kanter so far did not make anything outside of paint area. His jumper release is very slow, he needs to work on it a lot before it could be trusted in the game or called better then Gasol's. Lets be real here.

He has the mechanics and the quickness for a consistent 15-20 footer. If you disagree with this, it is just strictly out of hate.
Obviously he needs to work on it a lot. I think people said it had potential to be equivalent to Gasol's. Shall we go back to Marc's rookie year, and see his mid-range shooting statistics? I guarantee you that Kanter has much better mechanics at his age than Marc did.
So while Marc is eons better than Kanter at this given moment, lets not dismiss his potential.

Interesting, I looked at Jazz stats, all our lottery picks are leading in that cat: Kanter 18.4, Burks 14.3, Favors 12.5, Hayward 6.7.. must be some rookie/sophomore tx involved or they just do not have enough experience to get their shots off.. and guess who so far never got his shot blocked? Evans and Tinsley... Bell is close with only 1.1%.

What hate? There was thread and video ( I wil find it for you) in which Kanter's jumper release was compared to Okur's and measured and found to be about 0.6-0.8 seconds slower. Thats fact. His release is slow. Mechanics are good, no question as he makes 71% of his FT when nobody is here to interfere with his shot. Unfortunately in real game situation when he needs to make jumper vs defender that slow release is killing him.

I haven't noticed if this has changed but Favors used to have a remarkably slow release. He wouldn't let it go until he was on his way down. Kanter needs to skip a couple of steps in his shot there.
