Kanter traded to OKC

Is there a single person who thought we should trade Kanter last year? One single person? Show your work or shut your damn trap. Last year Kanter was our center of the future. This year he wasn't. That is a GOOD thing, because Kanter as our future starter wasn't going to cut it. As has been mentioned he is a poor man's Al Jefferson, but not as likable. Dude was medicore, and thank god we didn't have to settle. If Gobert would have said "Go out there and shoot Kanter in the head and drop his body into a shallow grave near Winnemucca." we would have been fools not to do it because Gobert matters and Kanter is a sideshow. The fact that we got anything out of Kanter other than a drive through the desert and bloodstains in the trunk is just a bonus. Kanter is never going to be a quality starter and EVERYONE on this board knows it. He may be a serviceable backup someday, but I'm glad the Jazz don't have to be the ones to convince him of that. Serviceable backups can be had for a cheaper price than Kanter's ego.

And Exum was a swing for the fences pick too. Hope that one turns out...

When evaluating a "swing for the fences" pick, it is generally better to go with the one that isn't as dumb as a rusted shovel. . .I don't think that is where Exum is.

I've said, and a few others, that we should have never drafted him and we should have been trading him every year.

I find it interesting, the notion that the jazz should have drafted Kanter over Thompson or Leonard because Kanter was ranked higher by the media mock drafts. Shouldn't the teams make their own investigations and rankings? I hope that the jazz do their own and have the organizational strength to stick with it. Too bad if the teams fall back to a player they evaluate lower, just to keep their pick in line with popular opinion.

This narrative that the Jazz somehow wiffed by picking Kanter in the 2011 draft is tiresome. The concensus had him going 3rd and nobody thought Leonard or Klay were top tier....

Is DL required to just do as the "concensus" says? If so, that must make his job a lot easier on draft days.

At first I was all like: "Yeahhhh, Kanter sux!"

Then I was all like: "This Framer dude is kinda scary, I bet he is a serial killer and uses a framing hammer as his trademark..."

Lol. Good post.

He played the same position as favors. It was a questionable move from day 1. And a trade of favors or Kanter was made certain the moment Kanter was drafted. That was why I never liked the pick.

It is probably a very good idea to go with what your super highly intelligent scouting employees say, and what you have come up with after years of evaluating every single pick in the draft. Kanter was that high on media boards because that is where scouts and executives had him. It was not about consensus, it was about where the team thought his overall mix of talent and potential was compared with other players in the draft.

I always thought that Favors was a power forward when he was drafted and Kanter was a center. Turns out they both turned into just big men, or PF/C. But at the very least, you need three big men on a team, so to say they played the same position is kind of a non starter, unless you are drafting or signing a million point guards like Minny and Phoenix.

The problem is that you are evaluating 18 and 19 year olds. That makes it REALLY tough. Just look at the NCAA, they miss all the time there and the stakes aren't nearly as big. How many 4 and 5 star guys wash out in college? You are taking kids and projecting them out as men both physically and mentally. Then you take a dude like Kanter who has a resume of basically one game. But it is a really, really good game. People that do this well earn their money, that is for sure.

Who would Thompson/Leonard be with 2 yrs of Corbin under their belts. If Kanter were under the tutelage of Pop and Duncan would he have been the star of the draft? I have to believe he would be further along.

Enes has a negative WAR. He is a huge liability on defense and his offensive +/- is get this... NEGATIVE!

We should be counting our lucky stars that we got anything out of him. It doesn't matter that he was the 3rd pick in the draft. What is he worth NOW? Not much apparently.

I think you do have a point here. It's funny how it seems like teams feel pressured to stick to the mock drafts and draft accordingly.

GM'S are just afraid of missing and then losing their job because they drafted so far out of order.

The team could trade down if they don't like where they are at, but that is also risky for GM'S because again , if they pass on a stud, they won't live it down.

It's really just a game of GM'S just trying not to lose their jobs.

Post of the week, made me laugh.

Yet every draft board and mock morphs into a "concencus". Miraculous how that works, eh?

And then when the GM trades away the failed "concencus" pick, he is hailed as a genius as long as a few spare parts come back in return (that's called "value").
