What's new

Karl Malone, Greg Miller and Randy Rigby on 1280 Right Now!!

Just like how Hornacek turned all the Jazz players in to 90% foul shooters!!!

In my opinion what Malone would be teaching is less of a natural skill and something you really need to learn as opposed to shooting, which can be improved obviously, but it's certainly not as easy to just get better at.

Been away all day to come home to find the news of Karl working with the bigs. Wow!
I've hoped for this for years. It's so good to finally see this happen.

Karl can only help to improve Favors and Kanter. I think we already know that Enes has a strong work ethic, and to see that Favors reached out to the Jazz and wanted to work with Karl shows he respects what Karl did as PF and wants to learn from the best.
It's good to hear that Karl and Derrick have already worked together, and also nice to hear that Karl exceeded what was expected of him by the FO.

Next season just got a lot brighter today!

Also it seems to show that Al and Millsap are unlikely to be back next year (why waste all that time with Karl if they're not going to get PT, right?).

Also that bit Greg said about us "not being high enough in the draft to get a good player" is quite telling.. I think the plan for next year is definitely play the young guys and let the chips fall where they may.

(Sidenote: they couldn't have done it this year as they still had a high payroll to take care of).

I was never on board with the idea of bringing Malone in as a coach but right now all I can think about is how wonderful it will be to listen to half-time interviews with Karl.

WOWWW!! I just read. Good end to a great day. So excited to see what he does with Derrick and Enes! :D

Yeah!!! Hopefully lots of:

- Great conditioning over the Summer
- Lots of running down the floor, receiving passes and DUNKING IT
- Lots of pick & roll action within the offensive sets
- Plenty of Grit and Determination
- Lots of ENERGY
- Favors/Kanter trying to better each other, getting each other stronger
- Kanter learning that unstoppable fadeaway jumper

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Mike Sanders. Wasn't he hired to work with the bigs?

LOL... Favors & Kanter only got significantly better this year when Sanders was taken off the bigman coaching duty...

I want to say more, but I'll just leave it at that.

All I know is that the amount of jackpotting around on for our big men is about to be history. I agree that Favors and Kanter are already bad *** and having Karl here will only bring out more nastiness in them.

Hours later and i'm still excited, but my head hurts from listening to Karl's lingo. I think he plays it up too much for dramatics. Still I love the guy.

Upon reflection I think it is odd that Greg and Randy marched down to the radio station, called Karl and made an impromptu announcement. Recently everything from the organization has been so rigid and scripted, this was not. And Greg has taken a back seat, and stayed mostly quiet-- even today he said that he has learned to hire good people and then let them do their jobs. So why didn't Ty make the announcement about his staff? Why didn't KOC or Lindsey make the announcement about the team?

I came up with 2 possibles.

1-Because of their very public disagreements maybe Greg felt like this was a good time to make a public showing of their reconciliation.

2-Greg, unhappy with the results of his employees felt like he needed to step in and fix the situation. Favors & Kanter were not progressing, Favors was asking for more help and Corbin, KOC, and Lindsey were failing to provide it so Greg stepped in.

Agree with #1. Don't agree with #2.

Why? Because Greg said it himself, Ty & KOC were the ones fleshing out the details of the deal and did all the behind the scene work.

My take is this was Rigby's idea for a PR stunt. It did the following:

1. Sets the record straight about the spat they had - put everything to bed so to speak.

2. It helps to reinforce in the public's mind that Greg is behind Ty no matter what has happened "Deal with It" so to speak.

3. It helps in giving the public a sense that the ownership is "doing something" for the next season.

Anything that has Rigby involved makes me nervous.

True to a point..

He's not involved in the basketball side of things, but PR, Marketing, Sales, are all under his jurisdiction. So the fact that he was there (instead of KOC/Lindsey) to me screams "PR Event".

I admired Karl's enthusiasm despite him sounding off the pandhandle for the most part. He's a shot of character the franchise need to help fans cope with the fact that management is in this mediocrity streak of good ol' boy syndrome four times over. Seriously, Greg couldn't muster much outside of these vague "This reminds me of an experience when I was eight..." fables as if he's dishing sacrament to supernatural beings. It was complete polar opposites hearing Greg and Karl. I swore I heard Karl snicker many times during anything Greg was saying, and I was more than enthused about it.

I have now increased my Favors expectations: 17.3/9/2.7
Kanter: 12/9 unless he heals well from that shoulder injury.

Malone could work wonders though, and have the both of these guys coming in next year surprising everybody. Hell, he could even take Corbin's job by the middle of the season!
