Kendall Marshall - Our next PG Hope

That would be awesomeeee!!!!

I can hope can't I?

Having said that.. I'd still prefer the Lillard & Quincy Miller route.. Rondo just can't shoot and I just don't like how his attitude could impact our young players. I mean Boston has the Big 3 plus Doc Rivers - and they're still having problems with Rondo. Now that's saying something.

Good to know. Don't mind me then.
I'm not sure why Boston would want Milsap....isn't Brandon Bass very similar to Milsap?

Except Millsap actually has a very good offensive repertoire.

I'd definitely say Marshall is worth it at #9. His passing is phenomenal (those full court passes remind me of Stockton) and he began to emerge as more of a scorer toward the end of the season (he had a few 20+ point/10+ assist games).

It's looking more likely that Blazers will grab Lillard at #7 (they don't have a PG, Nets aren't likely to finish within top 3). ESPN is having the Jazz picking up Marshall at #9.

Would he be worth it at the #9?

I'd say no but what do you guys think?

That would be a tough spot to be in (not necessarily bad though). If they like him enough they can take him, and most of the guys after are fairly even as prospect that you don't have much of a drop off until after the 14th pick or so. Lamb would be worse case scenario at 14. I just want them to pick BPA, even if it meant not getting a PG this year in the draft.

It depends on which direction they want to go. Marshall, Zeller and Sullinger seem more like more of a sure bet with lower ceilings. Jones, Jones, Rivers, and Lamb have more upside, but questionable if they will reach it. I would prefer drafting Perry Jones or Marshall in that scenario and hopefully Rivers or T Jones drops to us.

Best case scenario, Barnes drops a bit more though and Portland will have to either pick Barnes or let him drop to the Jazz. (actually best case is NJ jumping into top 3 leaving Port with just 1 pick this year).

My concern is really how he'll score in the NBA. Can he shoot? Not sure. Can he get to the rim and finish? I have yet to see him dunk!

Well Stockton couldn't dunk neither but he was quick to the rim and he could knock down the 3pt.

All I ask is that he shoot a 3pt at like 30%-35%, if KOC thinks he can do that I think he'll be worth the risk.

Im not sure what to think about him. I lean not so high though. I don't really get a good feeling about his game. Could be wrong though. Plus there is the injury concern.

It's one of those things that the Jazz Brass will figure out I think. I pretty much trust our team drafting the right player these days. They get to go work these guys out in person and see things we can't. If there is a point guard in this draft that is really good then I think the Jazz will know it.

I would considering taking Marshall with the GS pick if we get it. A month ago I would not have even considered it. Marshall proved a lot to me during the tournament. First, he was the engine that ran the train in NC. That is what the Jazz really need. They need a PG who can distribute the ball to our scorers. Marshall's shot, though ugly, has improved and his ability to get to the rim was better than I had previously thought. He is sneaky quick. I don't think he is as slow as people say he is. All the games I watched he was able to keep up with most guys or get to the rim. His BBIQ is off the charts and he is a willing passer. I certainly think he can be a top 5 assists guy in the league.

As far as being able to guard the elite PGs, I would argue is there really any one in the league who can guard Rose, DW, Westbrook etc. Marshall's defensive technique is good and he seems to have good hands and size. Yes he like most people will struggle to guard the elites and that is why you double team those type of players. I think Marshall's size will allow him to post up some of the shorter guards in the league.

Yes the Jazz need shooters but they also need a PG who can get everyone involved because that is really when the Jazz offense is at its best. The Jazz don't have superstar offensive talent so they need to out execute other teams. The Jazz can get a shooter in FA or if they have their second pick select a shooter. One benefit of drafting Marshall is that the Jazz can play a two guard system with Marshall and Devin Harris being the SG. I like Harris at the SG when he and Tinsley played together a few games ago.

Unless someone drops that I think is better than Marshall, I would be happy picking Marshall at 9 even though I would rather pick him with our pick.

If we draft him, then we better get 2-3 shooters to fill out the roster. Not only do our young bigs need more space, but Marshall will need the wider passing lanes, too.

John Jenkins and D. Miller can hit from deep + sign someone.

He improved both his shot and getting into the paint over the last year. He may not be quick but he's learned to use his size and strength to his advantage. He was driving to the hoop a lot the second half of the season. He may not be a great shooter or very athletic and quick, but watching him through the season these two weaknesses aren't and shouldn't be a major concern anymore.

This.

Marshall proved to be surprisingly good at driving. I think he's quicker than people give him credit for and he's a crafty ball handler.

One thing we're lacking is a guy ON THE FLOOR who is going to expect the most out of our young players, which I think Marshall brings more so than Lilliard. Having a guy who knows how to be a leader even though he has more talented players around him is extremely valuable, and I think it's obvious that Marshall knows how to do that.

I've given too much rep in the last 24 hours, but excellent point.

Yes.

And who better to have as your floor general than a guy named "Marshall".
