Kendall Marshall - Our next PG Hope

Stockton always had the ability to shoot. Teams knew that so they had to guard him on the pick and roll. If the PG can't shoot the jump shot then the teams can back off and guard the pick and roll. Besides the fact that Stockton was a great shooter while Marshall is a below average one and Stockton was very fast and quick.

It is true that players can improve but it is no guarantees they do. Look at Harris, CJ even AJ are basically the same players they were when they entered the league. Some players actually get worse like AK.

I like Marshall, I am not in love with him. I have concerns about his ability to guard PGs in the NBA and his shooting. I absolutely love his passing and if the Jazz had a bonafide starter than I would draft Marshall as a backup with the hope that he can start one day. The key will be can the kid improve his shooting to effective in the NBA.
The other issues is where the Jazz draft. If you are talking the lotto than I would pass but if you are talking around16 - 24 then Yea I pick him.

But he isn't helping us to win. He's a bust.

Time to gut the 2s and 3s of this team. Keep Burks. But get rid of everyone else.

Off you go now!
(of Hayward)

I'm gonna sig this later. We've been gettin some good old school O Gat **** lately. Pouty Boy don't like it when his lil teamy loses teh games!!!1!

WTF

Why don't you compare like with like then? Let's look at their 2 college years:

Kidd
1st year 3pt %: 28.6%
2nd year 3pt %: 36.2%
Average: 33%

Marshall
1st year 3pt %: 37.7%
2nd year 3pt %: 30.4%
Average: 34%

Comparing both their college years clearly showed Marshall shot better 3pt % wise than Kidd.

Of course Kidd shot better in his NBA career as a whole. That's what we call experience. Don't you think that players get better? What do you think when you draft someone and they just stay the same player throughout their career?

Give me a break.

Alright I give you the speed thing, but to just bully your point across without comparing like with like data is just ridiculous.

I'll agree with you that the stat comparison as presented by pkm is not fair, but Marshall is not Kidd. Not even close. I'm sure it will take getting to the combine for you to realize that his physical and athletic attributes are not even in the same tier as Kidd. If he was Kidd lite as you say he would be a projected top 10 pick right now, and he is not.

From what I've seen from Kendall Marshall, I think he would be a great pickup and would be a natural fit for this team. I like that he's a good ball handler, decent defender, excellent leader, and a good overall floor general. That's exactly what we need.

What I feel like a lot of people are missing is that our point guard doesn't necessarily have to be a great outside shooter. Sure, it'd be nice if he was, but it's not necessary, and here's why. We can get a shooter in another way -- I do feel that Jimmer would be a good pickup for many reasons, one of which is his solid outside shooting. I say we draft Marshall, send Devin Harris and Raja to the Kings for Jimmer and Francisco Garcia. Garcia's not much but the Kings don't value him and his salary makes the numbers work on the Trade Machine. If Jimmer could be on the court at the same time as a good distributor (and basically play the role of shooter), he'd be able to get open and hit from pretty much anywhere on the floor. Granted, that means he'd be playing the 2, but I think it could work.

Jimmer is keeping the Kings afloat right now. They are not going to trade him unless the Jazz give up too much.

Also, for those of you who are saying that we just need to get shooters, remember that Utah is not a FA destination. It is not as easy as you think that it is to get a shooter.

The Kings have lost 4 of their last 5 .. not sure how Jimmer's 7pts per game is keeping them afloat??

EDIT: I do like the idea of getting Garcia. I think he could be a good fit.

Not production wise, $$$$$$$ wise.

I really like Marshall. In fact, whenever I see a UNC game on, I tune in to watch Marshall (and Barnes, who I am not really impressed with). His passing ability is crazy and fun to watch because the majority of his passes are literally perfect. Favors and Kanter would be so much more effective players if they grew with a guy who could hit them when they are ready to score like Marshall can. Shooting is a concern, but I don't even think that is the biggest concern. He could definitely improve his shooting. The biggest concern for me would be his quickness and being able to defend the unbelievably quick point guards in the NBA today.

^^^ yep.

I love his passing. I can even overlook his shooting (Rondo), but I want a PG that can either shoot or blow-by a defender.

What do you think of Scott Machado?

Hard to see much of him (television), but from what I have seen I'm thinking his game can translate. I'm just always a bit leery of players putting up big numbers against inferior competition. But I like him.

Yeah I haven't seen much either, just highlights basically. He did put up 14 pts/11 assists on Purdue first game of the season and 33 points/10 assists on a decent St. Joseph's team. I am excited to see him in the tournament if Iona makes it.

According to John he was told by Frank Layden at the end of his first season that if he wanted to stay in the league he would have to develop a shot. He worked that off season and came back with an excellent outside shot that kept defenses honest. This example actually supports the possibility of players improving, and fast.

John Stockton is my favorite NBA player by far, and is pretty much the reason why this New Englander loves the Jazz to this day. But, let's be honest: we're talking about the best pure point guard in league history - the very epitome of what every future point guard should dream of becoming, from his passing to his dribbling to his teamwork to his leadership to his defense to his pure shooting. The fact that he used that Hall Of Fame work ethic to improve his shooting is not very surprising in my book, and does not mean that just anybody can do it. I do like your positivity though - Roger Bannister proved that running a four-minute mile was physically possible and now even some high schoolers can do it. But just because some people can does not mean that everybody will.

I did not bring him up as an example, nor did I state these are the results you can expect at home. I just set the record straight.
