Kyrie Irving dream

I'm thinking he will be the next available superstar. It looks like he is in a pretty hopeless situation. The Deng deal backfired, they've won one game with him (Bucks) and just can't see Deng wanting to spend the last 4 good years of his career in Cleveland. They have squandered three top four picks on role players (waiters, thompson) and one bust (bennett). If the Cavs fear Irving will ask for a trade or fear he plays out his qualifying offer to get out, we could be suitors. I think the Jazz have some pieces Cleveland would really like and would have trouble acquiring in free agency or from another team.

Burke (he is obviously never going to be Kyrie but has shown he can lead a team to wins in the NBA with modest talent surrounding him.)
Hayward (While Deng probably wants a contender, Hayward would joyously sign in Cleveland as long as he gets his money, and Cleveland has plenty of money)
Gobert or Kanter (Varejo is getting old and think Cleveland realizes about now they need a true rim protector to win in this league, but if they want Kanter instead thats fine too)
Jazz future pick (whatever stipulations needed to make it work)

That's a nice package and not sure another team in this league could beat it without tearing their team apart. The Jazz get their #1 option and an allstar, who could potentially be a superstar. Going forward the Jazz starting lineup would then look like:

Irving
Burks
Free agent singing (Marvin might have to be resigned)
Aaron Gordon or Noah Vonleh
Favors

Bench:
Kanter or Gobert (whoever we kept)
Evans
Neto
GS pick
Rush (resigned)

Obviously this wouldn't happen til the off season, when Irving could be extended much like Harden was. Irving would also have to like our team enough to sign the extension. Getting a high pick would go a long way to help insure that. /dream

Irving would be pretty sweet to get. I'd want to keep Hayward though. I'm not partially fond of the idea of throwing some of our young guys into the disaster of the cave team though.

So question is would you try to trade for him before the deadline? Or go after him in free agency?

Why not keep Burke and all your assets?
Burke could possibly be almost as good as Irving.
Does not seem like a good idea.

Ha at the idea of Burke being as good as Irving. Burke might be good, but he doesn't have too many elite skills.

That's a tough one because sometimes you have to strike while the iron is hot, however there is risk because he may not really want to play here long term. If you wait til the off season you can get an extension signed before hand but also run the risk of the Cavs jumping into the top 3 and getting Embiid or Wiggins, now Kyrie might change his outlook.

If the Jazz could trade for a player of Kyrie's stature then letting Millsap walk for nothing is going to look pretty dumb. Favors-Millsap-Irving would be a nice foundation.

Yeah we don't want to trade too much with that risk, but the cave would want a good amount for him. I personally thing Utah would be better then Cleveland.

I don't think they would accept any package for an All Star at this point so I think the whole discussion is moot. But if they did, we should only have to offer Kanter, Burke and the GSW pick, and perhaps our second rounder. This would ensure their tank, and improve their pick while lessening ours. I would under no circumstances trade our pick. It may end up still being #9 and I would love to see if Julius Randle (who i think could fall on draft day), Vonleh or a Rodney Hood/McDermot land here.

In the off-season I would go after Deng and roll with hopefully this kind of lineup.

Irving
Hayward/Burks
Deng
Randle/Marvin
Favors/Gobert

I'm afraid that pick would be the starting piece in any trade discussions for a bonafide All Star.

When referring to an All Star from the Eastern Conference iit important to include a "*" to separate an Eastern Conference All Star from actual all stars. Like this "All Star*"
Also, how many times does it need to be stressed that your All Star* should never be a point guard? A max salaried point is stupidity. Keep Burke and all of our pieces.
