Lakers-Jazz Trade

Honestly, if I'm the Lakers I would probably just stand pat. Bogey/Beasley/Clarkson etc would really help them, but enough to drop 2 picks for some rentals? This is the NBA, only one thing matters. They aren't a championship team with or without the trade.
Anyone who paid attention to the Lakers at all last year knows that there is no way they run it back. Westbrook was next level cancerous for that locker room.

If they want to make a move, the Jazz have the best move. But it's probably better for them to do nothing.

Yeah, I’m sure LeBron is thrilled to run it back with a 33-49 team.

Healthy Lebron and Healthy AD with good role players has won a title. It was an asterisk title but a title nonetheless. They have to give James the best shots they can... if the got Bogey/Beasley/JC/Vando I think they have a shot. More important... I think they would believe they have a shot.

I'm not sure they do two picks... I am not sure we'd be excited about putting Vando in the deal... but that is the pivot piece I think.

I mean… yes they’d be in the conversation.
Healthy Lebron is a top 5 player still... Healthy AD is like top 10-15... Give them two GREAT shooters in Bogey and Beasley... a bench scorer in JC... and a nice complementary big like Vando and they absolutely have a shot.

I literally can’t think of a better on court fit with LeBron than Bogey who’s available for trade.

I've been skeptical of this trade since it was mentioned as a possibility. The biggest problem with this getting done I think is that the Jazz players aren't James homies. I really don't think Lebron is smart enough to want Bogey on his team.

That was also a very long time ago. I don't really care to argue the merits of a hypothetical Lakers team, but that is what this rests on. If you think the Lakers are a contending team with our package, than sure....but I personally don't believe that. I don't think Lakers put both picks on the table and if it's just one (and if it's one they can protect it) I think the Jazz could probably do better with separate deals with other teams. Value wise there's just not a great match because you're these Lakers picks are the most premium type of unprotected picks you can get. IDK, maybe you can get to the right place with swaps. Taking JC and Vando also complicates their FA plans, which is a primary reason why I think the UTA package is better than the IND package.

I still think the Jazz may, have the best offer if the Lakers motive is to take the best deal on the table. But the alternative of just keeping WB or waiving him is what I would personally do. That gives them the best chance of winning a championship with LeBron.

It was less than two years ago... not sure what qualifies as a very long time.

We are a great match with them. They can work around JC and Vando if they want to do something in FA. They don't have max space either way so Ky gonna have to take a paycut. We have multiple pieces and can fit a lot of different iterations that match their goals. Not sure you could find a better fit as we would slightly overpay for the premium pick imo. You might get more volume if you separate the pieces, but I'll take quality over volume.

Of course they can protect the pick... which is fine but will limit their ability to trade future pick unencumbered. They may only go to one pick... that's fine.

Burning a year of Lebron and AD's career is absolutely not the best way to win a title. Preserving picks won't help either... that's primarily about life after Lebron.

If it's not a championship team, it does not matter. Are the Lakers a championship team with Bogey, Beasley, and Clarkson? (or whatever combo you want)

Lakers need a defensive big, but if Lebron can maintain his level and AD can stay healthy, then a team with Jazz guys would be contender.

Not to mention the money aspect. We can save them a **** ton of money by doing a 3 for 1... even if the money is equal.

Waiving him and saving a pick is one of the worst things you could do all the way around. Just burning a year with a superstar in his late 30s while paying a tax that you can't do much about if you lock in that 47M cap hold does nothing... you'd need to trade the pick the following year to maximize Lebron's window right? What salary you going to attach to that pick? What if Kyrie doesn't take that $10M paycut to come... Who you signing then?

We gushed over unprotected picks all summer long, I don’t think we’ll get one of them unprotected from LAL for our spare parts. Those are nice spare parts we’d be sending them, but I don’t think any of them would yield a late lottery pick on their own. It’s a big value mismatch and putting protections on things ironically makes things more difficult for reasons mentioned.

I think 2027 unprotected alone could make sense. But both unprotected + expiring salary is honestly the type of package that could net you a star. Those picks are wayyyy better than any of the picks the Jazz got this summer for example.

I don’t really need to make the argument for how valuable those picks are. Y’all have been jerking it to unprotected picks all summer. It is a little questionable to give those up for some decent role players. LeBron is very old, but I still don’t think the best chance to maximize the rest of his career is to burn premium assets on decent, but flawed role players.

Yeah... It seems were doing LAL a solid by simply taking RW but we're also going to give them help to win a championship? All for possibly one possibly 2 UP picks?

I guess...?!

Don't think the trade will happen. Lakers will keep RW. So we will have to reduce our number of players in another way.
I think they move him… I think we get at least one first. We likely find out this week one way or another.

Injuries are going to happen and teams are going to underperform. I think we are going to be in great position to cash in on desperate teams as the season progresses.

I hope the Lakers deal happens, but I'm not desperate for it to go down. We are going to be an awful defensive team even with our vets, and with the brutal start to the year we will still lose a lot of games.
