On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the Jazz handed the Golden State Warriors their worst loss of the Durant era with a 30-point 129-99 defeat. This was followed up with a 19 point win in Golden State on March 21. The Jazz, not to be outdone by themselves, delivered the defending champs another demoralizing loss in a 40-point blow-out. 4-0.

With a win tonight, the Jazz move in to the 3rd seed in the Western Conference.

A mighty impressive feat as the Jazz could move up two spots in the standings from where they ended last year. Gordon Hayward, in his last game, gave Utah and the Jazz his peace-out fairwell when the Jazz fell to the Warriors.

This year, with true warriors, I award the Jazz the official "Peace Out" trophy, as a symbol of moving on, moving up, and moving forward. They've earned it.

The Jazz arrive in Portland to finish out the season on a back-to-back against the Blazers. In a throwback to a game thread somewhere around 2010 or so, I'm going to repost this video:

The key match-up of the game? Damian Lillard and Shabazz Napier vs. Derrick Favors and Ricky Rubio. Why? Let's go back in time...

In 2005, KOC traded three draft picks to the Blazers to move up to the #3 spot to take Deron Williams.

Those three draft picks became Linas Kleiza, Martell Webster, and Joel Freeland.

KOC, ecstatic with the move and thinking he'd win Executive of the Year, stripped down naked in his hotel room and invited TMZ to come photograph.

Follow with me on this one:

Portland ends up trading Kleiza to Denver for Jarrett Jack.
- Jarrett Jack gets traded for Ike Diogu and Jarryd Bayless.
- Ike Diogu is traded for Michael Ruffin.
- Jarryd Bayless is traded for a pick that becomes Tobias Harris.
- Tobias Harris is traded for a pick that becomes Shabazz Napier and Gerald Wallace.
- Gerald Wallace is traded for a pick that becomes Damian Lillard.
- Martell Wester is traded for Luke Babbit and Ryan Gomes.

Napier and Lillard are the only Portland remains of the Deron Williams deal.

The Jazz traded:

- Deron Williams to the Nets for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and the draft pick that became Enes Kanter.
- Jazz trade Devin Harris for Marvin Williams.
- Jazz trade Enes Kanter for Kendrick Perkins, Tibor Pleiss, and a future first-round draft pick.
- Jazz trade OKC pick to Minnesota for Ricky Rubio.

Favors and Rubio are the only Utah remains of the Deron Williams deal.

Portland, with a history of trying to steal things from Utah, looks to steal the third seed.

July 11, 2009

The Blazers, knowing the Jazz will match, sign Paul Millsap to a heavily front-loaded contract, hoping it would be toxic. The Jazz match.

July 2010

KOC tells Wesley Matthews to go find his offer. Portland again makes a large offer to Matthews and the Jazz do not match.

June 2012

A combination of the Jazz making the playoffs (and forfeiting their pick), in conjunction with being out-tanked by the Golden State Warriors, end up with no draft picks in the first round. They could have had the #8 pick and the #14 pick, arguably enough to move up and draft Damian Lillard, but Paul Allen snatches the home-town hero with the 6th pick in the draft.

April 2018

The Blazers, realizing they have a shortage of talent, seek to steal the third seed from the Jazz.

Above, Paul Allen assures season-ticket holders there's no shortage of talent.

Ultimately, Paul Allen, Terry Stotts, and Josuf Nurkic will be looking on as they see their season self-destruct.

The Jazz close out the regular season tonight, with other important games on the line.

In an unintended fashion of Dark Helmet and Darth Vader, Terry Stotts may actually be Joe's father...

With this win Jazz will have a winning road record. I know sports bets cover pretty much everything - imagine if after the Heat game on January 7th when the Jazz had a road record of 3-15 if one would have gone to Vegas and bet $1000 the Jazz would end up with a winning road record. Those would be some fun odds....

Gamethread Girl: Marie Curie

Marie Curie (1867–1934) was a brilliant Polish/French scientist. Her research on radioactivity earned her a Nobel Prize at the turn of the century, and she received a second Nobel Prize in 1911 for her work in chemistry. She was the first person to ever win Nobel in two separate categories. She also helped develop the first X-ray machines.

Given Utah's current chemistry, the way other teams are disintegrating before us like so much radioactive decay, and her connection to Rudy's homeland, she makes for a perfect Gamethread Girl. She once said "One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done." May our Utah Jazz focus on the task ahead, without resting on their laurels, tonight.

Fun game tonight. Would love to win it but the consequences of a loss aren’t severe. Would love for DM to drop 50.

When LifeOnaPlate posted the GTG yesterday, I wanted him permabanned. I can’t objectify women in real life, thus the internet is where I turn for some good old fashioned T&A. I’m now backing off that stance considering how well it worked out for us last night.

I figure that there’s nothing wrong with the GTG’s being accomplished women that make my penis shrivel just as long as the Jazz’s play keeps me at full mast.

In fact, LifeOnaPlate, if you’re not too busy perhaps you can go find a Grizzlies message board and post one of your boner-shrinking GTG’s in their game day thread prior to tip-off with OKC?

Even though the Jazz have been great on the road for nearly 4 straight months, I think OKC is the one team where Home Court is gonna matter. OKC’s crowd come playoff time are more rowdy than Utah’s (it kills me to admit that), and much like the Jazz, the Thunder really feed off that.

I think tonight is HUGE for Utah because I honestly feel like the winner of an OKC-Jazz series is the team with HCA.

I may be under-rating HC because of what we did to the Clips last year... that home crowd is indifferent.

I missed an opportunity last year to go get Game 7 tickets, but would have involved 14 hours total drive time. Game 7 tickets in LA were so cheap... I think I found like row 10-15 for $150ish... paid more than twice that for GS game 1 tickets... we really did that city a solid killing that team.

As I've said before, after exceeding every expectation it's all gravy from here. But how sweet the gravy would be if we win this and get the three seed! While I agree the Jazz can play with anyone, anywhere right now the playoff's are a different animal. We'll see just how solid these guys are from here on out.

45 points for #45 tonight in a convincing win as Jazz easily cover the 3.0 spread.

3.0 is also the over/under on how many times I spontaneously jazz my pants if this happens.

I’m not really worried about any one game anymore. I’m more worried that it’s all been a fluke/dream/hot streak and suddenly we are gonna look like the December team. Seems irrational now, but I can’t quite get it out of my head.

When (if) we go down, as long as it was playing our game the same way we have for the past three months I will have zero complaints.
