Well the countries that are 100% mandatory are in the minority by a large margin.
I think about 1/3 of countries in the world today have mandatory military service (including almost all that are neighbors with Russia, as the map shows). You used words like archaic and embarrassing to describe Finland's situation. Those words simply do not describe the situation properly.

Well maybe Finland doesn’t want to be highlighted as a country with a law that restricts human right., ie. the freedom not to train or serve in the military

This is a dumb argument. Plenty of countries are proud of their mandatory requirements to serve. Americans are lucky that we’re big enough, and (relatively) safe enough that we can afford to have a volunteer military. Certainly not every country is so lucky. I think our civilization would be a lot better if everyone had to spend a couple of years serving their country instead of their own personal interests. .

Or serving others/society in some capacity (Peace Corps type stuff). I think not having it in the US has created a major detriment to the fabric of American society by making it pathologically selfish.

I’m sure many are proud to serve, but can you say EVERYONE is happy to serve?

Having it be 100% mandatory means you’re at least forcing some people who don’t want to, to do it.

And forcing it down your throat would make the society better?

What about people who don’t believe in war?

God help me…

Do you wanna read the post you just quoted?
Well you said not having it makes people selfish.. it has nothing to do with being selfing.

Maybe some people just don’t believe in war and violence, how does that make them selfish?

I mean, I wouldn't expect it to be mandatory for any industrial military complex country that profits off war, it's more of a civic thing (cleaning up, volunteering, improving infrastructure , learning basic handy skills that a lot of young people don't have) and for smaller countries having a trained population in case of emergency
