What's new

Lets face it this team blows!

Let's face it, when your most substantial post is "NO ONE they should have treaded it," any thing you say can and definitely will be held against you.

We're 1 week into FA. KOC can't use the MLE on anyone or we'd likely lose Matthews. So we have the two TPE's and AK's expirings. It's likely those won't come into play until the trade deadline approaches. So yes, the team might be worse off early in the season. I really think this is a 2-season project. Hayward gets some good experience as a rookie, and KOC tries to make some deals with the TPE's and AK's contract.

GlassEater, I fancy myself a straight man but your posts are making me question that. +1 on that whole damned post.

And to the OP: Lets face it, your message board communication skills blow.

Great post. This team needs to find a different strategy. I am not too disappointed if they take a step back as long as they don't let all of these TPE's expire for nothing and that they are looking to move forward in the future. All of the players they have lost over the last season or so were dead weight that needed to go to start reloading.

Brewer
Boozer
Harpring
and Korver.

None of these players should have been in the long term plans for the Jazz anyway and getting something for them was the way to go. They were too late on Boozer as they could have had much more 2 years ago but at least they got something.

It is really 2 weeks into the process, and it is a significant amount of time. Just look at all the FAs already signed. Nearly all good players are already locked up. Hell, it was enough for us to lose 20-10 starter and the best 3 point shooter in NBA. And as far as making trades near trade deadline, that's poppycock. Wolves just got Beasley for a right to swap draft picks, protected for 7 (!!!) years. GSW got Lee for bunch of scrubs. Wolves are offering Jefferson to Dallas for expiring contract and a pick, and Dallas wants them to take on more salary. And we like Wes so much, why don't we make an offer to him. I was reading we are just reaching out and starting some conversations. No, don't tell me the night is young when so much has already happened. Especially with us already losing 2 guys. You have to take advantage of opportunities given, and teams have been doing so. Just not our team.

So tell me how we were supposed to keep Boozer and Korver? If you come up with a way tell me why we would want to.

Boozer is an offensive player in a front court that plays no defense. It was beyond time to move on.

Korver is a 1 trick pony who was already replaced.

Apparently the Millers have unlimited funds. Doesn't matter if the team is $10M over the tax threshold and the team is faced with paying an additional $10M in taxes. Oh yeah, we can just "dump" AK before the deadline. Plenty of teams out there will have sufficient CAP space and won't mind paying $8M for 1/2 year of AK's services. Certainly they are all benevolent and won't want a significant asset in return for doing us a "favor."

And KOC can look into his crystal ball and know that no team will offer a contract for >$2M to Wesley Matthews. That way, Utah could have used the $5M to keep Korver and re-signed Matthews with the rest of the money.

I certainly understand people wanting the Jazz to improve. But thank O'Connor, that the organization doesn't make any knee-jerk reactions. The last thing we want is to have another horrible contract on our hands for 5-6 years. We're finally out from under Boozer. We'll get rid of AK's by the end of the season. Personally, I think re-signing Okur was a decent move. I mean, look at the money David freakin' Lee just got. Okur's extension was just for a couple of years, Sure, it looks bad now. But you can't foresee injuries. Thed Deron to Memo pick-and-pop was tearing things up two seasons ago when Boozer was out. Memo was hitting well over 50% on his 3's during that stretch.

Is actually negotiating with Wes instead of waiting for offer sheet, getting Beasley and/or Jefferson for a first rounder the knee-jerk reactions you are referring to?

Look at the article in sltrib that with all the commitments we are 11.3 mil under the tax right now. If we get Jefferson, and withdraw QO for Fess, whom we will no longer need, if Jefferson comes over as starting C, we are just .7 mil in the luxury tax territory. We will be nowhere near facing 10 mil in penalties. And yes, there are ways to get creative and shed a few mil off payroll. Don't make it sounds like it is unheard of.
