Lets face it this team blows!

Nine posts. Kindly jump off at the next station.

We're 1 week into FA. KOC can't use the MLE on anyone or we'd likely lose Matthews. So we have the two TPE's and AK's expirings. It's likely those won't come into play until the trade deadline approaches. So yes, the team might be worse off early in the season. I really think this is a 2-season project. Hayward gets some good experience as a rookie, and KOC tries to make some deals with the TPE's and AK's contract.

Sorry I am not a nerd and write posts to every dumb *** thread on here. The fact is the Jazz have never won and never will as long as they are owned by the Millers and are in Utah. That is the fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great post. This team needs to find a different strategy. I am not too disappointed if they take a step back as long as they don't let all of these TPE's expire for nothing and that they are looking to move forward in the future. All of the players they have lost over the last season or so were dead weight that needed to go to start reloading.

Brewer
Boozer
Harpring
and Korver.

None of these players should have been in the long term plans for the Jazz anyway and getting something for them was the way to go. They were too late on Boozer as they could have had much more 2 years ago but at least they got something.

When have the Jazz ever look toward the future. get a clue assmunch

Look at the article in sltrib that with all the commitments we are 11.3 mil under the tax right now. If we get Jefferson, and withdraw QO for Fess, whom we will no longer need, if Jefferson comes over as starting C, we are just .7 mil in the luxury tax territory. We will be nowhere near facing 10 mil in penalties. And yes, there are ways to get creative and shed a few mil off payroll. Don't make it sounds like it is unheard of.
I was talking about the critcism that KOC and Greg let Boozer and Kyle go. So that would have added $21M to the payroll and put the Jazz well into the luxury tax.

And I strongly disagree about withdrawing the QO for Fes. He showed some progress last season, especially when forced to play major minutes in the playoffs. Until a young center has had 5 years in the NBA, I don't consider him a bust. And that's pretty much the consensus of GM's - it takes 3-5 years for a big to develop...unless they're one of the top players coming out. And Fes was EXTREMELY raw. I'd say his development would be at the far end of the scale. I think this is a key year for Fes - if Sloan will give him minutes.

FES - if Sloan will give him minutes.

I think it's more up to Fes to earn the minutes. Sloan has showed over and over again that players determine their playing time. Look at Matthews, he wan't given the playing time he earned them. Milsap wasn't given the playing time he earned them. Same with Bryon Russell,Shandon Anderson in years past.

Yep I had a great coach once YOUR MOM

Wow, really that is what you come up with? A your mom joke? Hey I slept with your mom.... that is very creative. SO out of your 12 posts you have said that "This team blows" and you used a your mom joke. Great start.... I can't wait to see what else you add to the forum.

Always you moron. They picked up the Knicks pick for a player they did not really want or need. They are constantly picking player's not quite ready. They always seem to have an eye on the future when making deals.

Maybe your just to ****ing stupid to see it.

With a crap load of open roster spots to fill. Besides his point was that there was no way to keep Boozer and Korver with those 2 contracts we would be more than 10M over the cap and still have a crap load of roster spots to fill.

Hold on, hold on. KOC doesn't know what he is doing? You want Boozer back? What is wrong with you? What KOC has done is given this team a shot at a title now. Take a step back and think about it. KOC has done a very good job this year, and it will come down to what is done this next year to see how this team turns out. Look what KOC has done. This year we have drafted Hayward and Evans. Some ESPN duds really think Evans can be a very good player in a couple of years, and it looks like Hayward is perfect for Utah. So, this year we accomplish some valuable things:

- We see Deron's ceiling. He will have to carry us, and this year will show us how great he can be.
- Hayward gets experience, and learns the system
- CJ has no excuses. He needs to step up.
- We see if Koufos can contribute to this team or if he is a bust
- We see what type of player Millsap can become

So, after this year, CJ, Millsap and Koufos have no excueses (maybe even Fess). Now we have the best pg in the game, a very good sf, we see what our young talent is with Millsap, Koufos and can decide if we want AK or not. AND we are 30 million under the cap. So next year, we can actually go after people with money we actually have. This doesn't even include potential trades that we can make at the trading deadline with AK and the TPE's. We also have Tomic, who could turn out to be HUGE for us. Talented seven footers don't come along every day.

Given the economic situation the Jazz are in, this is the best way for Utah to try to get a title. That or letting Deron walk, and tanking three seasons in a row, getting a bunch of top 5 picks ala OKC.

I admire your optimism but it's very very difficult right now to imagine competing for a title in the next couple years...These teams are creating "dynasty" type teams and we're going to rely on our 2nd round draft picks? Dwill can't do everything, this year is really going to be a struggle

Who is creating a "Dynasty?" The only team out there is LA, and every team is behind them. I still don't buy the Heat. They still aren't as good as LA, and Bos and Orl may still be better. Maybe my opinion will change when I see who they bring in. I honestly don't think the Miami team lasts for a couple of reasons:

1- If they somehow beat Orlando and Boston, (and even if they matched up against Atl in the first round) to get the title game, I don't see them beating LA. Let's look at that matchup:

C- Gasol vs Scrub - Huge advantage LA
PF - Bynum vs Bosh - very, very slight edge Miami, and that could change is Bynum continues to improve
SF - LeBron vs Artest - Advantage LeBron, but Artest is probably the best person in the league to guard LeBron
SG - Kobe vs Wade - Advantage LA. Kobe is the best player in the NBA. He will dominate Wade, especially if Wade doesn't get the calls from the refs
PG - Blake vs Fisher - wash to slight advantage LA due to age
Bench - HUGE advantage LA. And if you throw Odom out vs in Bosh, I might give the advantage to Odom due to the fact that Odom knows how to play with stars in LA, and Bosh's game will be severly limited playing with Wade and LeBron.

That is after Miami gets killed inside by Boston and Orlando and has a tough round vs Atl/Chi. Miami is good, but so are a lot of other teams as well. If they don't win a title in 1-2 years, I can see LeBron getting sick of being Wade's Robin, and/or Bosh getting sick of being a nobody and all three getting sick of playing with scrubs because they are so far over the salary cap (assuming the other owners are pissed at this and implement stricter penalties for the luxury tax, say $3 per $1 over) that at least one wants out.

I guess my point is that we have no clue what the NBA will look like in two years, and all Utah can do is put itself into a position to have the opportunity to get the best players they can, which is what they have done. Imagine if the NBA institues a hard cap. Green Bay is a horrible city to play in, but they get Free Agents because of the hard cap and their history. If the NBA gets a hard cap or really strict lux tax penalties, and Utah has the most room under the cap AND Deron AND a talented 7 footer in Tomic AND good role players in Hayward, Millsap and CJ, then there is no reason as to why we can't get another max player in here. If that happens, then we will be in a position to compete, just like Chi, Bos, Orl, Mia, and LA by then (due to age).

We can't do that with a max Boozer and Korver. For the market, KOC is doing a good job, so far.

2 of the top 3 best players in the world playing along side one another and add a Chris bosh to that, that's called trying to build a dynasty. The are trying to win now and for many years to come. Meanwhile we have lost our 2nd best player, korver and now matthews. And we haven't signed anyone...How is KOC doing a good job?

Crap load of roster spots? We would have Deron/Price at point, CJ/Hayward at SG, AK/Evans at SF, Jefferson/Koufos at C, Millsap/Okur at PF. We do have last 2 roster spots to fill, and hell, we may want to bring back Fess for a mil, plus someone like Gains for min (with Wes gone now and his QO off the books). So, if we do this, we are no where near 10 mil over tax, but right about at the limit, maybe slightly over - with 12 guys on the roster. Sounds good?

How is KOC doing a good job?

By avoiding the temptation of overpaying for good players making it impossible to build a competitive team in the future.

Have to have 13. Your scenario puts the Jazz at least 3 million over the tax with one more to sign.

We were 11.3 under tax after QOs to Fess and Wes. Under my scenario, we bring in 13 mil (Jefferson), while getting rid of Wes QO (700K). That puts us 1 mil over tax. Sign Evans, Gains, and another min guy, we are looking at slightly over 2 mil above tax. Nowhere near 10 mil, and we have until trade deadline to shed a couple of mil to get under the tax. Does not seem too scary, does it? We are not talking anywhere near 10 mil over here.

Jazz at just over 60 million taking away Matthews QO...
