hayward wanted $13 per year for 4 years and you penny pinched for $12 per year for year.....short-sided....i thought lindsey came from the spurs and was heralded as the next wunderkind

I doubt 1 million was all that they were hung on. My guess is Hayward was pushing for more money or that 5th year.

I am upset with the contract. And I am upset that we are matching.

But Hayward averaged 12 points 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Anyone who is blaming DL is not being honest. Nobody thought we should sign him for that much. I don't blame DL.
I blame KC for keeping the vets around for too long and not letting our young players play to figure out what we have. Because they played this limbo stage of rebuild/pretending to contend.........This is what has created the environment of not knowing for sure what we had or have.

FAAAAAAAAR Lindsey!!!!!!

HAAAAAAAAAR delPOTro!!!!!!!

I agree that in hindsight Lindsay screwed up, but I'm willing to bet that had we extended Hayward for $13 mil/per last season, this board would have exploded with complaints of Lindsay bidding against himself and upset fans claiming that there is no way Hayward would have been offered that much as an RFA.

wait.. what!??@!?

We're matching??

How odd - I recall most posters last year screaming that $12 mil a year was overpaying him and that he's no Favors and is a $10 mil a year guy at best.

I hate matching Hayward, but I fail to see how we are going to spend our money considering that the priority FA's are chasing rings and the only ones who would come here over being on a contender are doing that because we are overpaying them.

Athletes are overpaid while us scrubs clip coupons - that's the class system in action.

Those were his stats from 11-12. 12-13 (the season he played before last year's extension talks) had him averaging 14.1 pts , 3 rebs and 3 asts, while shooting .415 from 3.

I love DL, but you have to admit he dropped the ball on this one. He should've done his homework and compared the amount of teams who were going to have money to the amount of realistically attainable talent. Statistically, most teams who let their players go to RFA end up overpaying for them in the long run. Now, DL might have set a precedent for Kanter and Burks and their agents to reject our extensions so they can try their hands in RFA next year, in what will be another over inflated market with the expected cap rise.

We'll never know for sure if Jazz offer was 12 and if Hayward wanted 13. Reports came from Marc Stein, and he isn't the most reliable when it comes to the Jazz.

We have no choice. We have the cap space and have to spend money and cant spend it on anyone else.

checkmate

Win some you lose some. Favors at 12 = win. Hayward at 15.75 = loss. Burks will be the rubber game of the series.

THIS, totally...either way, people thump their chests and claim Unknown super GM powers...meh, he will do fine

Then maybe we should fold this hand, pick up our chips, and try again next year. We know what we have with Hayward and it ain't that great. But we don't know what trades may fall our way if we maintain our cap flexibility. Heck, if every team is spending their cap room for mediocre talent this year, then maybe some FA bargains fall our way next year.

How do you know this is even true? Because his agent said it. Besides the fact that if the Jazz think Hayward is only worth $12 million the Spurs thing to do is let him walk.

I agree 100 percent. Why waste half of Hayward's contract while rebuilding the team. He is going to want another contract in 4 years and does anyone think he is going to give us a home team discount.

I remember all those threads criticizing DL for not giving in to Hayward's salary demands. Man, we had to merge them ****s like crazy.

Tell me. You **** faces... are we matching?????????????????????????

I assume no. If we are, **** DL.
