Lockout!!!

Why? I don't get why some people seem to be taking this issue personally. Is your bank account going to be affected by this? Will you feel better about the rich getting richer, just because they're not as rich as the other side? I honestly couldn't care less about the wealth of the people on either side of this. My only hope is that Utah benefits from a few league changes.
I don't disagree with any of that, but it seems like there are a lot of people repeating all the owners' talking points without going deeper or being the least bit skeptical. For whatever reason (I imagine it has something to do with access to media outlets), the owners have done a much better job than the players communicating with the public, and convincing them that they're on the side of the angels. For various reasons, discussed in several articles throughout the process, much of that seems like utter ******** (to me, at least).

I don't consider myself to be on either the owners' or players' "side". I just want a deal done.

About done with this. I'm not buying anything NBA related regardless if they get a deal done or not, and advise anyone to do the same. If your not in Utah just stream the games, screw LP.

How do you cave on something you didn't even care about to begin with? It seems the only thing the owners ever cared about was what split of BRI they'd be getting, which was fairly transparent from the start.

Scream it from the mountain tops! The NBA had a chance to fix some of the issues of inequity in the league and have instead opted to focus on short-term financial returns with the leverage (that they've largely invented).

I've mentioned this in another thread, I believe, but the fact that the owners seem to have the public on their side has little to do with media, and everything to do with preparation. They have likely been planning this lockout for a few years, while the players' union did jack all. Even though it was fairly obvious the last year or so that the league would not even consider extending the old CBA's terms.

It's not that the players' PR was bad, it's that they had no PR. And it goes much further than that. I'm a teacher and I'm a member of a union. My union has a "warchest," paid for by a portion of our dues, that acts as a bit of a safety net in case of a strike, or even a lockout. It allows the union to pay a certain percentage of wages for half a year or a year. Not your entire wages, obviously, but about 50-60%. I wouldn't know, I haven't been teaching for that long and there have been no strikes.

Why haven't the players done that? If there is a mutiny within their camp, it's going to be led by guys making the league minimum and those just above them. When paycheques stop coming, they will be the ones hurt. Why didn't the players set up a fund to at least pay some money out to those guys in the lowest income brackets in the NBA? It would have strengthened their hand immensely? Instead, most of the time you can't even tell there's a players' union, and then lockouts come and suddenly players think it's going to save their asses and get them a sweet deal.

They are business man , it is their job to communicate, negotiate, players seem a little dumb and dull in this picture for me. I think a deal won't be done unless players come down to at least 51

If the mid level exception goes down to 5 million per year, does anyone think we can re sign AK for that price?

I find it too difficult to think of roster moves while the parties are arguing over money and we don't know whether there's a season at all.

Hunter/Fisher are botching this thing every which way. In over their heads. Almost shockingly oblivious to reality.

Yea because the owners have been so willing to compromise. The owners are actually like a bunch of bullies. I am not a big fan of Fisher but what is he suppose to do take a bad deal.

...when you have them by the nads....their hearts and minds will follow! So making $5o,ooo instead of $100,000 dollars a game is all that bad? Get a grip! These clowns were so overpaid it's not even funny! So they won't be able to "pimp there ride" as much as before....or bank roll half the strip clubs in the country. If they use there heads they will still be in great shape financially both now and after they retire.

The players should teach the owners a lesson by starting their own league. I think we can all agree that the players would get along in perfect harmony if they were owners, and they would all share their money and everything would be fair from now on.

No, he should hold out as long as possible, so the players can lose even more money that they'll never recover.

its like a never ending staring contest with both parties waiting for the other to blink first, but the owners have toothpicks lodged in their eye sockets and bigger wallets in their pockets.whose gonna win this one.cmon players wake up the owners aint blinking first.you are losing more money every day and being mad that the owners wont blink is making you more stubborn and broke.you aint winning this one,tap or they will break you.

I'd agree if it were a bad deal. I was on the player's side in the NFL lockout because the owners had no real good points. But in this case the majority of NBA franchises are losing money and the players are being offered a fair deal. Where on this deal are the players getting screwed? If they could at least show that they may get some public opinion on their side, including mine, but they haven't. 50/50 and a more restrictive luxury tax doesn't seem unfair at all.

There are a number of “B” list items to be covered today which sources say are basic parts of the deal including what the age limit will be, how the NBA draft will function, drug testing and disciplinary functions.

There is a belief the NBA is pushing for the age limit to be increased from 19 to 20 in the next labor deal, something the Players Association is not adamantly opposing. The Players would like to see a trigger put in place to allow top performing rookies to hit free agency sooner. The Players’ side wants to see players like Derrick Rose that overachieve on their rookie deal have some avenue to hit free agency sooner. If the Owners agree to such a concept, then the age limit in the NBA may jump to 20 years and two years removed from high school which would radically change the outlook of the 2012 NBA Draft.
